You can use wood filler to create a ground effect. Add plain old sand and then when everything dries, brush off excess and prime. This stuff is a shortcut. It doesnt contain material that emulates sand, but it does create a thick coat that can easily be manipulated into ground patterns. I would also look into this companys pumic products. Seriously, this stuff is fantastic. It can be painted onto the base and it washes easily out of your brushes. If you dont want to mess with sand or wood filler just for a base coat (you still want wood filler for ground elevation), then get this in addition to a coarse pumis product from Vellejo. However, if you can only get one, then go with the coarse pumis over this.

Great product but unless items like these can stop being shipped in soft mailers it is useless. Put it in a box and pack with the appropriate amount of material to keep it from shifting. Mine came in smashed with the product inside the mailer spread out like mud.

Another great product from vallejo! This is a great generic product to have to create ground effects. Just let it dry and you can paint what ever color you needed it to be. This ones add more of a gritty texture then the others in the line up so it’s a must have.
