> 3 dayReplacing the 2 filters that are part of the Food Cycler significantly reduces the odors produced by the process though getting the Replace Filter light to go off is a work in progress. There also seems to be an improvement in the amount of time needed for the process with the new filters.

> 3 dayThese do a great job of stopping the funky smells that would otherwise come out of the foodcycler, but they dont last long enough to justify the cost of replacements. Instead I suggest you get some granulated activated carbon and refill them yourself! For the same cost youll get enough carbon to refill these a half dozen times. The only mildly tricky part is prying the tops off the first time, but after that its easier. I throw the spent carbon in with my foodcycler waste.

> 3 dayFilters are filled with standard activated charcoal pellets. Twist or pry off the top carefully to keep from spreading pellets everywhere. Replace pellets with pellets sold in bulk on Amazon or wash pellets with detergent, rinse and dry in convection oven for fifteen minutes at 200 degrees fahrenheit. Otherwise discarding the plastic filter cylinders is counterproductive to the goal of recycling food waste and protecting the environment. If you dont want to reuse the pellets, put them in your compost bin or directly in your garden.

> 3 dayNice to have a replacement set. Now I can pry open the ones that came with the unit and recharge them with new charcoal now. Constantly buying replacements isn’t really necessary but also a cheap alternative.

> 3 dayBought a few times from Amazon now. Out of the last 3, 2 of them only worked for between 4-5 cycles and then stayed smelling. The third worked for longer but still quite a few cycles shy of the change filter light.

> 3 dayThe insides are basically activated charcoal. You can pry the lid off of the canister, dump out the charcoal and then refill with activated charcoal you can get at the pet store for aquarium. A 40 oz container of activated charcoal is about $16 and you can at least refill two of the canisters about 4 times.

07-06-2025Just as the headline says, these filters last about nine months. I bought the Vitamix Food Cycler in March of 2022, and here we are in December the same year and the red change filter light has lit up. For reference, I use the unit about two or three times a week. After replacing the filters, you need to press the filter reset button on the back of the machine, while it is plugged in but not running. I didnt realize this, and thought that the red light would be on forever. Its a very easy button to find.
