YOLINK LoRa Smart Door & Window Sensor: Up to 1/4 Mile Open-Air Range, Door Left-Open Reminders, up to 5 Year Battery Life, Alexa, IFTTT, Home Assistant

I installed this in a medium-gauge steel mailbox 125 feet from the hub which sits inside a wood frame house. Despite reading a very weak -120dBm signal strength in the app, the sensor triggers correctly every time the mailbox is opened. The app is superb, allowing you to define what aspect of the event triggers a text or email: opening, closing, or being open for a specified length of time. You can pick whether to get text, email, neither, or both. For tech geeks, this merits 6 stars. Ive also got the excellent leak sensors.

So far so good. Linked with google assistant and hue. Working well.

Easy to install and reasonably priced.

This is an excellent product, but it is a bit hard to configure. For example, my freezer is in the garage and I sure don’t want to be told every time I open the freezer door, but I do want to be told if the door is left open for more than five minutes. Configuring the 5 minute alert was quite the chore and yet I’m certain that’s quite a common request? so they could’ve given a real example. Also, once you register your email address with the app, you are forced to register a second time on their website. That second registration is really not obvious. Ive asked this question of the manufacturer and on this Amazon page and am awaiting an answer. If this isnt possible I may give it 3 stars. The pros: - Extremely simple to set up (I used wired ethernet connection to my router) - Door sensors can be up to 18mm apart and still be considered closed, so my weird door frames were no issue. - App is simple - Alexa and IFTTT integration available and seamless (though not very good for my purpose) Cons: - Only 1 sensor can trigger one or multiple devices. Multiple sensors cannot trigger the same device with a single command. I want ANY door that opens to trigger the siren device, and I want to be able to enable/disable that with 1 click or 1 Alexa voice command. This is not possible as far as I can tell. I would have to have separate automations for each sensor to trigger the alarm if opened. The only saving grace here is that you can set up specific hours that the automation is active. So Ive created a separate automation for each sensor that is only active at night, since I presumably wouldnt open doors in the middle of the night. If I so happen to open a door during these hours, I have a special command for Alexa to stop the siren. Without Alexa, I would need to find my phone, open the app, navigate to the siren, and press off. - User guide is very limited (19 very short pages) - Siren went off randomly with no record of the event in the first 30 minutes of using it. Not sure if this is going to be an ongoing issue (though this is not a specific problem for the door sensor in particular).

Im sold on the Yolink product line. This door sensor was a snap to install and set up alerts on my phone. Im getting a couple more of these as well as their other products.
