> 24 hourI bought 8-gallon bags and they fit perfectly. The bag flops just enough over the lid of the trash can to secure it. Coffee grinds and other solid foods do not leak, but if you have a metal can, or the bag gets very full, you have to be careful when removing it from the trash can or it will tear. The bags are in a roll and a bit hard to tear off unless you hold it just right, but thats a small price to pay for environmentally safe trash bags.

I would be able to smell the contents if they even ripped a little.
