I had been looking for a new laptop for a little while but couldnt decide what to get. Finally chose this one. Works great. Runs fast. Battery seems to last. Happy with my purchase.

I buy this laptop for my girlfriend. She is a python programmer and data scientist, what I like about this product is the following:

Used this as a public computer in our clubhouse. Was limited to $500 on purchase so had to kick in a little on my own. Already had one bought earlier this year that has worked quite well for us.

This is a fantastic computer for the price. A few things to note however. This computer comes with a spot for another hard drive and the hardware for it but there is no clip to connect. I felt this was very strange but after talking with tech support provided by Amazon and Acer they informed me that they cannot help with any upgrades. If it is supplied by the company I feel like it is a feature and not so much an external upgrade that they were so against. The location for the clip was there but no clip itself.

The one I bought was from Amazon when they had it for $599, which at that time this computer was a steal. Its really rapid in terms of processing etc. The fan(Acer Brand) came on rarely, although I only had it for like 2 weeks. One thing I really loved about this computer is that its wireless card for Wifi/Bluetooth connectivity is 100% solid. And also unlike other computers that ive purchased in the same year, its extremely easy to add on different devices such as printers, or to broadcast to TV or to even add drivers. Never had such ease with any device in terms of connectivity as with this one. Being that its a 5500u, the U denotes low power version of the chip. The only area I find scary, because of a thing called CPU frequency scaling is when the chip is scaled to maximum frequency, which the housing may not be designed for. Personally I went for an H series chip, more power, and for me means housing built to take heavy loads. Its like having a V6 Camry, but driving like somebodys grandma, if you have no accidents the product is going to last alot longer. Also if you need the power, its there.

I wish I could leave a good review as this is a really nice laptop for the price. The screen is clear and plenty bright. Its super fast to boot in to windows and load programs due to the m.2 ssd. But when I went to install a 2.5 inch ssd I ordered with the laptop I found that the connector the sata cable plugs in to on the motherboard is completely missing. You can see in the pic under the wifi card the contacts where the connector was supposed to be soldered. I tried to explain the issue to Acers tech support but they didnt understand the issue, only offering to send me the bracket that holds the ssd. This is quite a bummer because the whole reason I got this particular laptop is because the ram and storage were upgradable. Now Im stuck with 120gb of storage unless I want to switch to a larger m.2 and then have to re install windows and all of my programs.

I purchased this laptop in Dec of 2020. It was kept in pristine temperature regulated conditions. By July 2021, the laptop would not turn on. This is way below acceptable life span. I also haven’t been able to get Acer to respond to the issue. I really regret this purchase and hope others are not victims of this poor product.

Good basic laptop. Fast and runs basic word processing programs, etc. al. Its been really dependable. I own three basic Acers and all of them have done well for the money.
