Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop PC, 15.6 FHD IPS w/ 144Hz Refresh, Intel i7-8750H, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 256GB NVMe SSD, Aeroblade Metal Fans PH315-51-78NP

I purchased this laptop to be my gaming device while Im travelling. So far I have tested Battle Field 1 and Guild Wars 2 and was able to play at Ultra/Highest settings on both games at 60+ FPS (BF1 - Averaged 75 FPS, GW2 - Averaged 70 FPS). All of this was done without using the available overclocking that is configurable with Acers PredatorSense software. I purchased a 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD to install in the 2.5 bay. After installation I found that the SATA+Power connector had a broken PCB (circuit board). I contacted Acers support and within 30 minutes they had put in an order to ship me out a new SATA+Power cable. I would like to note for those less technically inclined, they did offer for me to return the laptop and receive a completely new one. Since I know my way around a motherboard I chose to just replace the cable myself. So far Im very pleased with this laptop, for those who complained about the keyboard getting hot, this is a common issue on all gaming laptops. It can simply be fixed by setting the fan speed to max when playing video games. I just finished a 2 hour session of Battle Field 1 multiplayer and my keyboard is just slightly above room temperature. I have listed what I liked about the machine and what I didnt below as well as a summary of my review.

I built a top end gaming desktop in 2015 and the specs on this laptop are better than it which is saying something for a laptop. Its got me even thinking about upgrades to my desktop like a newer video card and monitor. I really like the 144 MHz screen. I did upgrade the NVMe SSD card though to a terabyte because the 256 GB is way too small and I reloaded Windows Home 64 on it. I also added an old 500 GB 2.5 SSD I had in the open bay. As others have said it does get a little warm during game play but Acer does offer a program to control the fan speed. Probably the only thing I do not like about it is that Acer has locked the bios firmware. By that I mean they have limited the setting within it that can be viewed and changed. Ive read that someone has hacked the firmware to gain access to the hidden settings but I am not comfortable with using hacked bios firmware. Acer needs to offer an unlocked bios for power users. Especially on gaming PCs. I am used to building my own PCs and having unlocked bios firmware on the motherboards.

GREAT laptop for the money, no argument here. Cooling is there, but there is a lot of horsepower that produces A LOT of heat. I would recommend a laptop cooling pad when you game.

I just got my laptop and I love it! Its extremely fast and easy to setup. Im so glad I got it when it was on sale. Im going to get so much use out of this laptop.

Battery dies pretty quick as expected with such a performance oriented computer. I never received a code for call of duty as advertised so I would not put a lot of faith into that.

Adquiri esta laptop para trabajo de edicion de foto y video con excelentes resultados, iguala e incluso supera a los modelos equivalentes de Apple. El teclado y la construccion general es muy robusta. Si usas fire fox como navegador, y apagas todo lo que puedas apagar de updates de windows la maquina mantiene el desempeño que tiene desde el dia que la adquiri. La recomiendo ampliamente.

I bought this product this year, but for unknown reason it freezes and turned to pixilized screen.

For the price this is a very solid machine - I dont do a ton of really heavy gaming but do play some and it has preformed great. I also use it for solidworks and 3d printing and its been more than enough for my hobbyist requirements. I love the feel of the keyboard and it has a nice screen. Personally I think the look is terrible , it loos like a 12 year old designed it... its too angry and looks like its trying too hard... I also dont really care so its all good as I will not use this for business use and prefer my XPS15 in both size, looks and portability. The bloatware is also a pain for a minute until its all gone.
