This cpu works great with the right board. This is not a high end course but will surprise you with the power it holds, I recommend it for low budget setups.

Love this CPU and now with the push towards the 3000 series sales, the deals on the 2000 series is amazing. If you are running your CPUs OCed this is a great base platform. Im running mine up to 3.9Ghz at 1.3V and it performs amazing. My daily clock is 3.7Ghz at 1.25V and it runs smooth as butter. For the price after the 3000 series you really cant beat these for high core number CPUs.

As the 3rd generation Ryzens come out, the 2nd generation CPUs have really come down in price. The 2700 is a fantastic 8 core processor. I have had no trouble running Doom 2016 at max settings (tied with my Vega 64 GPU) at 1080p, and have had no heating issues with overclocking (I do have a water cooler however). You may consider the 2700x for a few dollars more but I have been very happy with this CPU and expect it to last me awhile before I upgrade again. Highly recommend for the hobbyist gamer looking to built a higher end PC on a modest budget.

Do not buy this if you have to pay full retail price, unless you have some special reason to do so. Rather, get the 2700x. On the other hand, if its on sale (I got mine for $220) then it is a very good buy. I upgraded from an i7-6700 to do more multimedia work whereas before I was gaming on my PC. I can still play everything at 60+FPS, but as an added bonus my render times and encoding times were greatly reduced. Multitasking is also less sluggish than it was with the i7.
