I hate to give such a low review of this CPU because the CPU is really good even though it is pricey. The fact that I did it was to draw attention to the issue that Amazon refuses to honor promos from retailers even though the promo was listed on their website at the time of purchase and listed on AMDs website as participating retailer. Do yourself a favor and order this from another retailer that will honor their promos. Numerous chats, calls and messages to Amazon they still refuse to honor the promo and will not work to resolve it. I have never in the past ever had an issue with this, but for this particular Equipped To Win promo I am not the only one. Reddit is filled with reports of Amazon not honoring this even though it was listed on their site. Other than this the CPU is genuinely good and issue free. I placed this in a build that is running 32GB of RAM and a Vega 56 GPU and get amazing frame rates of every game I have ran so far.

This review is strictly for gaming... competitive gaming in fact -- where high frames are required at low settings over frames with high settings.

Im sure years from now when this CPU is completely obsolete I will look back with nostalgia about how I thought this was a beast. But currently, it is just that. It is a beast. I havent even dabbled with overclocking, mainly because I dont see that as a need. Its blazing fast right out of the box. I am an avid gamer and am able to run the game, several apps, and stream all without seeing any stress on this CPU. I think the highest usage Ive gotten is 40 percent. I threw a liquid cooler on it and keep it at a chilly 40-50 degrees C. Maybe in a few years when it starts to seem slow, I can overclock it a bit. I dont see that being an issue anytime soon.

Bought the Ryzen 7 3800X, it is now on a MSI X570-A Pro motherboard and with a PowerColor Red Devil RX 5700 XT. Incredible numbers in the benchmarks. The stock cooler makes it a little too hot but hey, didnt expect the best results on the stock cooler. This CPU throws alot of power, therefore kicks out more heat. I use the MSI Core Frozr L fan cooler and during long benchmarks, temps went up to 89° max. Good considering that the max temp is 95° and that I never get near that playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint at max settings 1440p. Just to clearify, the stock cooler is not bad, it is now on a Ryzen 7 1700 and works great so you might find another utility for it or maybe sell it. Overall, I am very proud of my purchase and I would definitely recommend this CPU for gaming on a PCIe 4.0 compatible system.

Various friends have versions of this processor and all said the stock air fan is amazingly good. I got the 3800 version, which is not quite the fastest they sell at this point, but very fast.
