> 3 dayI have been working on cycling my aquarium for about a month and a 1/2 now and have really been struggling with the nitrites. Despite the many water changes and beneficial bacteria Ive been adding in they just havent gone down and have been at a dangerous level. My nitrites were reduced overnight just by adding these to my filter cartridge. I dont think they were even advertised as nitrite reducers but they certainly have done the trick when nothing else has. This is such an affordable replacement for the carbon filters I have been using and they offer sicker and way more protection and can be customized according to size and preference. You can even add 2 layers of these for even more filtration. No more pricey rip off cartridge filters for me!

> 3 dayAlthough package arrived with a knife slice clear across the bag, with dirt in that portion of the padding, I just cut that section out & dont use it. As for quality, yeah - these are better than Fluval Quik Clear & slightly thinner, allowing me to use 2 of them at the top of each of my Fluval Edge filters to be sure all the small particles are grabbed. Definitely cheaper than Fluval too, so as long as seller doesnt get greedy & jack the cost Ill continue to buy these for a long time. I go through this type of filter fast with 3 large frogs.

> 3 dayThe company is very proactive in making sure you understand their product and how best to use it. All the instructional videos are great. I made a template of my filter basket using cardboard. Used it to trace with a sharpie on the filter roll to get the most filters possible, 25. I waited to write this review until after a couple of filter cleanings. When I saw the filter roll, I was concerned at first. The filter looks and feels exactly like the Penn Plax filters that came with my cannister filter. The Penn Plax filters cannot be rinsed and reused, they disintegrate. The filter worked as it had before these filter pads in keeping my tank water clean. After 2 weeks of use, I removed them and rinsed them, which they withstood perfectly. I put the filters back in and left it for another 2 weeks. The filters rinsed out the second time just as good as the first time. For the price, if you are willing to spend a little time cutting the filters out, this is just as good as the Penn Plax filters, cheaper and, with rinsing, last way way longer. The only issue I came across was trying to figure out which way the water flows through my cannister so I could make sure I had the filter media in the right way (loose section on top or bottom). That was not easy to figure out. I decided on looser weave side on top and tighter weave side on the bottom. I honestly don’t know if that is the correct direction but, it’s keeping the tank clean.

Greater than one weekThis works great as disposable medium-fine filter media. It doesn’t impede the flow in my canister filter. However, it clogs quickly in a HOB filter. Since the flow relies on gravity, water backs up. For HOB filters, I just use filter sponge. TL;DR: Good for canister filters, bad for HOB filters.

> 3 dayI buy a roll a few times a year, cut it up in rectangles and use it along with other foam media in my hang on filters. It can also be used around an intake filter for odd ends. They go in white and come out brown. Because of the low price I usually throw out the rectangle and replace it instead of rinsing and reusing. It helps keep the other foam media from building up as well. Before I found this, I spent a lot more money buying other things that the pet store tells you to buy which don’t last as long.

> 3 dayI live in the South and fish with live minnows, threadfin and gizzard shad. Keeping them alive between fishing trips is a hassle to say the least. I built a circulating bait tank in my garage using a bilge pump and aerator for air circulation. I constantly filter the water to control ammonia levels of the water. Previously I, as well as many of my friends, had used synthetic pillow stuffing as on of the filter material. For several reasons that just never seemed to do the job adequately. I purchased this product, cut it to size for my 4 diameter filter system, and it seems to be working wonderfully so far. I have been using it for about two weeks and already notice a significant improvement over the previous materials I have used. Being able to keep this costly bait alive and well until the next fishing trip as opposed to just tossing them into the lake when Im done fishing presents a huge savings which will more than pay for the reasonable cost of this product.
