I used to think typical good value audiophile headphones all sounded decent (beyerdynamic dt990 250ohm) but they all sounded the same to me. The day I put these on after they came in was the day I felt my hair crease due to my inability to take these off. I have never heard something so close to a live concert experience wearing headphones or listening to speakers. With these, you wont need to research 192kb lossless, because mp3s on these sound better than lossless on any other headphone. Adding lossless to these and you feel something magical. The sound quality of the mids is surreal and the bass is extremely fast with no bleed due to the amazing planar magnetics, not to mention the highs are bright enough but never overwhelming. Soundstage isnt insane, but with the clarity and paring of balanced cables, good dac and amp, it will show through. Build quality is extremely good, all metal build feels very sturdy but can be much heavier than expected. Some people say they cant have these on for more than an hour but I can easily wear these for over 5 without a need to take them off. Sometimes it needs adjustments due to my larger ears touching the fazors on the inside but nevertheless a great lounging or chilling headphone. Watching movies with these feels better than an actual movie theater where sound intimacy is at the highest. Make sure you EQ these if you get them, theres quite a few EQ settings for these and they all make it better than new. The cables it comes with are expensive and seemingly fragile so keep them from kinking or pulling, otherwise opt in for some balanced XLR cables off amazon or somewhere else. Dont believe what other reviewers say when these arent endgame headphones, I dont ever see myself spending 5x the price of these for 5% more quality especially with the advantage these have over typical 500$ headphones. If you ARENT a hypercritical audiophile, buy these and dont look anywhere else, you will find yourself in a rabbit hole spending money like a kid in a candy store.

This thing is built like a tank, you could use it for self-defense its so strong. Its heavy enough to feel the weight when I turn my head but honestly, I love it. Ive gotten used to it. The weight kinda reminds me to lay back and listen. Its pretty comfortable with the leather strap and squishy earpads despite the weight. It looks like its built to last a century. Its like one of those they dont make em like they used to kinda products from the 1950s. 5/5 durability

I have been a headphone guy for the past several years, an audio guy for over four decades and a music lover since I was a child growing up in the 1960s. The headphone craze began for me back in the later 90s while working a second shift job because my wife and newborn would be sleeping when I arrived home and I was unable to immediately go to sleep but didnt want to wake them. Over the years I have amassed a small collection of headphones, all good, but the LCD-X is INSANE!

High points for clarity, comfort, sound stage, instrument separation and precision tuning and stereo balance on the lower end as well as in the mids and uppers. There is no low points, except maybe the high price... But, in this case, it is obviously justified.

Ive started to notice after several hours of listening time that my right ear is now touching the right fazor (plastic grill) on the headphone and causes great discomfort. Ive looked online and this is a known issue with audezes LCD line. Its surprising that people have had issues with the exact same thing and yet dont fix their pads. Ive contacted support and was told that there was nothing they can do. I dont have giant ears and they are quite normal. When I glance at the pads the right padding seems thinner than the left pad. Also not to mention that the pelican case that comes with the headphone is missing a rubber foot so when its placed on a flat surface it wobbles.

Sounds transparent a bit different though compared to traditional cone based headphones. I didn’t find it to be bass heavy as some reviews suggest. Important to take a listen before you go for it.

This is the “best tuned” Audeze IMHO, it’s the closest to a Focal Clear MG in terms of neutrality and accuracy on the frequency response. However it contains a better wider and bigger soundstage.

This is the latest advancement of our famous LCD-X (effective March 2021). Many say the LCD-X is the most neutral of the LCD Collection; they’re used by sound engineers and musicians to create the most accurate recordings. Just Google Manny Marroquin, Stuart Hawkes, Frank Filipetti, Ed Cherney, George Massenburg, Elliot Scheiner, or Brent Burge for a few examples of our Audeze users. They do a great job of translating your mix to the real world. The X and its brother, the closed-back XC, are sensitive enough to be driven directly by portable players like iPods, iPhones, and some of the better smartphones, but you’ll enjoy much better sound with an external amplifier. Its impedance is 20 ohms.

Audeze"s exclusive Planar Driver design has lower distortion

Diaphragms thinner than a human hair

We use space-age materials in an ultra thin diaphragm four times larger than typical headphones for fast response times, dramatically reduced distortion, higher resolution and improved imaging.

Near zero distortion

Double-sided magnet arrays delivers a uniform driving force across the entire diaphragm for near zero distortion.

Internal waveguide

Patented Fazor Elements guide internal headphone soundwaves to avoid resonances for a more accurate waveform.

The Audeze story

Audeze started in 2008 in a garage (of course!) when its founders came across a revolutionary flexible circuit material developed for NASA. Realizing this could be a great advance in planar magnetic technology, they first started to make pro audio PA speakers, but dropped this project and started making headphones!

Taking this first headphone to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, it was a tremendous hit, and that success launched the company. Hanging on that garage wall was the 2001 Space Odyssey poster, and that inspired the company’s name. The founders wanted a name that had something to do with a “journey through audio,” so Odyssey would be perfect, and that’s how the name Audeze (pronounced “odyssey”) was born.
