Greater than one weekI know there are upscalers available that do a better job than this, but you’ll pay more for them than the console. I’ve never used one of those fancy jobs and probably never will because I’m just a casual gamer. I have tried several other converters though, and this one is by far the best I’ve found. IMO, unless you run a N64 YouTube channel or something like that, this is the best and more valuable solution.

Greater than one weekI had difficulty with getting this to work with an AV receiver with pass through to the TV. Its DOES work directly connected to the TV with sound coming over the TV speakers rather than av receiver. Its only stereo sound anyway. Sometimes I have no sound, usually from a cold start when the TV and n64 have both been off. I just toggle back and forth between inputs once the console is on and displays an image and after a few toggles with the remote between hdmi 1, 2, 3, etc when I return to the hdmi input this is on Ill get sound. Honestly this is tolerable. Its probably a quirk of the analog to digital chipset used. Picture quality is fine. 16:9 mode stretches things a bit but its not as bad as I thought itd be. I did notice after a few hours the plastic housing of little converter was surprisingly warm. To me this indicates the analog to digital converter chip was probably extremely warm given I could feel the heat through air and plastic. Out of curiosity I cut a hole in the case and applied a small heatsink (see photo) to the main chip. It provides no tangible benefit or upgrade to the function of the device. Its not like it makes to picture clearer or anything. It does seem to dissipate a lot of heat though so it provides peace of mind that this device wont burn out after a month. Cooler electronics last longer than hot electronics. Its not necessary to do this though. It doesnt seem to automatically turn off when the n64 is off, its still warm to the touch. So I just unplug it from the 5v micro usb power when not in use. Auto power off and on would be nice but its a small gripe Overall Im just happy to play n64 again, without needing to keep an old school crt TV around.

Greater than one weekI couldnt believe my luck when I dug my N64 out of our crawlspace. It was like finding long lost treasure. Eyes aglow, I fixed to hook it up and relive parts of past lives... But the hookups dont work with modern TVs or amps. I was surprised at the depth of my disappointment. Its stupid, I know, but still... Enter this little beauty. Its so simple: Plug it into your N64. Plug the other end into the HDMI input on your TV. Instant conversion. Its that easy. I was hacking and slashing my way through Gauntlets dungeons in no time.

> 3 dayIts getting rare to find a TV with anything other than HDMI inputs now, and when my last old school TV died and was replaced- oh no! My vintage console doesnt output HDMI and the TV and my relatively new home theater receiver dont support analog/composite. This device cured that problem. Theres two aspect ratios selectable and be warned- it will potentially cause your TV to switch inputs when the console boots or restarts, as no video signal from the console makes the TV think its off and many TVs switch inputs when that happens. The quality of the pic is good, and my receiver upscales it ok. So far, its been working well.

> 3 dayPlugging in the micro usb is a bit inconvenient but works like a charm when the AV plug in isn’t an option.

> 3 dayThis Nintendo adapter allows you to connect your SNES, N64, or GameCube to an HDMI television. The adapter does require power, and a power cable is included. It could also be powered by a USB outlet, perhaps if your TV has one, that would simplify your setup. Everything is included, the power adapter, the USB cable to plug into the power source, even the HDMI cable is included. Some of the newest televisions only have HDMI, so this allows those older consoles to connect. However, it is still using the composite connector on these devices, therefore, the quality will not be leaps above what you would expect if you connected composite directly to a television. In particular, on the GameCube, this provides you with composite quality. Many GameCubes actually had a digital video out that supports much better HDMI and component adapters for exceptional picture quality. With a gamecube, I would recommend researching those options. Therefore, I would more recommend this product for SNES and N64, when you simply need a HDMI connection to the TV, it is convenient. However, if you have composite inputs on your TV, or you want better than composite quality, you are best to look at other alternatives.
