Batman: The Movie

04-06-2025This is the first single non combo Blu Ray I ever bought and I have to agree with commentary that nobody truly does campy as well as the classic Batman. Other that Jack Nicholson in 1989 Batman this movie has my favorite version of The Joker and for sure my favorite version of The Penquin. The way Blu ray sets up the special features differently from regular DVDs still takes some getting use to for me but I like both versions of commentary giving insight on the films and all the other extras on the batmobile and stuff. The story in simple as Joker, Penquin, Riddler and Catwoman team up for their greatest crime evil. Like an episode of the original Star Trek series where aliens dehydrated the Enterprise crew into crystals the criminals dehydrate the world leaders of a fictional version of United Nations into different colored power dust to hold ransom. The movie puts all the bat vechiles in the movie such as the bat copter, bat boat, bat cycle. Between their headquarters above a bar at the docks and Penquins submarine base the crooks seem to remain one step ahead of the dynamic duo till the very end of the film and come closer to destroying the cape crusaders than they ever did in the TV series. The only think that would make this movie perfect would of been if it came along late enough to of had Yvonne Craig star as her Batgirl character in it. She was the only person I missed watching the film.

Greater than one weekWhile this is pretty much a bare-bones DVD release, for me it is an entertaining guilty pleasure. When this first was released in the theatres in 1966, I was a 5 year old Batman obsessed kid. I remember my wonderful twin great aunts taking me to the movies to see this cheese-fest. While its no technical marvel, it is a very fun addition to the 60s TV show era of the Batman legacy. And for just a few dollars, its well worth re-living the the memories associated with it.

> 3 dayCorny but it is a good manifestation of the 60s ideas of Batman. This is the movie made from the 60sTV show. The classic show has all the earmarks of the time, with the villains played in a very campy and humorous way. The bumbling police chief is as funny as ever. And Alfreds calmness as he maintains the secrecy of the dual identities around poor clueless Aunt Harriet.

> 3 dayThe one and only Adam West as Batman. It’s Batman & Robin vs the Four Supervillains (The Joker, The Riddler, The Penguin and The Catwoman). Batman: The Movie was produced by William Dozier and directed by Leslie H. Martison for 20th Century Fox Studio also have behind the scenes features. Batmania in 1966 caught the world by storm and it was a phenomenal success.

> 3 dayWow, such memories were elicited. I just love Adam West and Burt Ward authenticity for these roles and then to get the special treat of have Ceasar Romero, Burgess Meridith, and Frank Gorshin. I would have loved to see Julie Newmar instead of Lee Meriweather. I would have liked to see Eartha Kitt as Cat Women because I think she was Puuuurrrrrrrrrfect in the role. It made me want more. I forgot about the famous Bruce Lee as Kato in the series. I laughed so hard right from the start with the get the Bat ladder then it is dropped down from the Bat helicopter and actually says Bat Ladder at the end of ladder and shark attack with the rubber shark attached to Batmans leg on the Bat Ladder while Robin gets the Bat Shark repellent. Man this was a fun movie to watch, it will definitely be one that I pull out from now on when I need a laugh. This is how Batman was meant to be not dark and scary with a lot of violent shooting and blowing things up.

> 3 dayThis version of Batman made in the mid-1960 was corny and campy, with bad acting. But I love the costumes, and all the bat gadgets, and the super villains who went toe to toe with Batman and Robin. The super villains are great campy characters, and good entertainment for some mindless fun. And Robin played by Burt Ward is so gosh darn golly good; he is the biggest cornball you will ever meet. It is hilarious. And of course Adam West who plays Batman takes himself way too seriously. Amazon Instant Video does not sell or rent the TV show version of this incarnation of Batman, but maybe they should. After all nostalgia sells well.........................
