Carib Sea ACS00223 African Ivory Coast Sand for Aquarium, 20-Pound

This gravel/sand is wonderful to look at, and my cichlids just love digging around in it, but be sure to thoroughly rinse this product before putting into an existing aquarium. Pretty sure it was just scooped off of a beach somewhere, even had small sticks and debris still in the sand. I would not add this to an existing tank without first taking a hose outside for a few hours to this product.

Beautiful substrate when mixed with aragonite. Our african cichlids are extremely happy and ph is stable.

Wasnt too happy the sand was leaking all over the post office floor, as well as the walk home with 40lbs each trip. Luckily 3 bags were good. Hoping for a refund on 4th bag as i lost most of it walking home and on the post office floor

I initially rinsed 3 bags of this sand thoroughly [in the bag] several times before adding to my 55 gallon tank. After adding to my tank and adding the water, it remains cloudy. After a couple days it did settle, but any slight movement of the sand clouds the tank back up considerably. The first fish I transferred to this the tank died so I started over with the rinsing. I have been filling this tank and draining it now more times than I can count over the period of a year, trying to get it somewhat cleared up. But no matter how many times I rinse it says just as cloudy as milk like when I first got it. I have not been able to enjoy this new tank that I set up over a year ago. Today I give up and accept the fact that I wasted $100 on this crap. I have never had these problems with regular old filter sand from the hardware store. I bought this just because I liked the look of the black and white sand but I am utterly disappointed. I am throwing this crap out and going back to the basics. Just a warning if milky looking tank water bothers you.

Highly recommend this substrate if you have chem balancing issues in your cichlid tank.

Love this substrate. I rinsed each bag thoroughly in a 5 gallon bucket until I got The water as clear as I could. I added the water clarifier and water to the aquarium and within a couple hours it was clear. I can’t wait to get some more rocks and add some fish once the tank cycles
