These things are quite secure and useful, but the unlocking/removing mechanism seems to be confounding everyone else I know. They arent hard to remove once installed, really, but you need to do it right. Do not squeeze or deform the U-shaped piece at all when removing it. You hold it gently, gently squeeze the little release levers on the locking part together, and gently pull either the U-shaped piece or the locking piece away from the other piece. If you try to use brute force to remove it, it will just grip on tighter, which is great for preventing removal by toddlers but seems to confuse adults who are in a hurry or refuse to learn how to open it properly. They are a little bit of a pain to remove and reengage every time you need into a cabinet, but its better than your kid getting into something they shouldnt. Also, these locks will only work on certain arrangements of cabinet hardware. Large knobs near each other, or C-shaped handles that are near each other.

This item is/was an item that couldve been great for us but it fell short an inch or two. Granted I measured my cabinet handle distance and because both were approximately 5 inches it was perfect to buy. On one of the images you can see that the locking mechanism is in the back part instead of within the the two tubes that slide on to the device. Because of that it fell short on being able to lock the cabinets I needed it for (Baby proofing lower cabinets). I rated this 5 stars not because it failed for what I needed it for, but because I can recommend this item to others as long as it fits their need. Hope the pictures and review helps others.

Sometimes the part you squeeze to open can get stuck or be a little hard to open but they work. The only child lock I’ve purchased that my kids haven’t figured out.

My son who is 5 can open it but he knows not to eat soap and other chemicals. My daughter who is 2 cant. Its perfect because it doesnt leave damage and keeps my daughter out of the cleaners. Ive only had one break. Because its used to keep old cupboards from hitting me in the head . The rest have held up well. Perfect for baby proofing!

My cats are always getting into cabinets so I got these to keep them out and they work perfectly! Very easy to use and pretty much self explanatory.

I’ve previously purchased the “buckle” type straps for my double door cabinets but my toddler figured them out almost immediately. I didn’t want to install the more traditional - annoying - baby proof locks or latches so I decided to try these. So far so good! If I don’t tighten them, he can pull it off, but once I do, he can’t open it. I bought another pack to finish my baby proofing and will buy more for my parents’house where we visit often. I feel my child is very safe having these installed.

These do work, and theyre not a hassle, but if youre buying them for pet proofing or very small children - the width of the cabinet doors will matter! 2 of ours are within an inch of each other and the doors wont open more than an inch. The other two are about 2 inches from each other and, with these on them, you can still reach your hand in and get things out. I would suggest something different if your handles are not close to one another.

I have cats that like to get into my cabinets so Ive been securing them with rubber bands and bungee cords. Now I have cabinet locks that are much easier to use plus they look better.
