monitor goes to sleep before the installer CD can do anything usefull setup instructions are uselss for installing any software or doing setup - all it says is to how to assemble it so much for DELL!! Dell tech support was in India I think - its Albion - they were clueless this is the only monitor I have ever had problems with I have a new ASUS Essentio Windows 8 Pc always in the past a video card would treat a new monitor ok - at least working in basic mode - not this time after much computer voodoo and plugging and unplugging and trying ito other pcs and rebooting it finally worked - I have no idea what did the trick due to this frustration it only gets 4 stars today the monitor itself seems ok now that its responding to the PC. 24 is a good size for sorting photos and doing simple editing. on a side note - I am quite pleased at the font sizes with this monitor and Windows 8. A pleasant surprise for my old eyes.

After 8 years of use, Ive tried to replace it three times, and keep putting it back on my desk. The main feature that I find indispensible is that its a 16:10 ratio monitor. With most of the design experts at my favorite multibillion dollar transnational corporations insisting on shoving controls into the top and bottom of their windows that would be otherwise buried in dialog boxes three deep, the horizontal space it provides is essential. Aside from its endurance, the other feature Ive found most useful is the port selection. I use mine as a mechanical KVM between Linux/Mac/FreeBSD/Windows all week- the USB hub and selection of video ports really come in handy. VGA is still a thing on servers, and the DVI port is easily converted to HDMI with a dongle.

An old 24 1920x1200 monitor died (different brand). After a few days without it, I **needed** a replacement. The Dell USharp is **the** standard for quality 24 monitors. Ive used them at work for years, so my expectations were already set. Based on my reading of reviews across the web, it seems to have the best overall quality/value proposition. I was sold. I have other monitors at home, mostly 1080p, and feel like Im missing 200 pixels from the screen. The Dell 24 resolves that issue perfectly. I like that the Dell power switch has a physical feel and is not logical. That always bothered me on the previous monitor. I did take appart the old monitor to see if replacing a few capacitors would fix it. None of them were fried, so a new Dell was my answer. The Dell feels the same size, thickness, and I suspect is made by the same Asian maker. The old monitor lasted 7+ yrs. I expect this Dell will last that long too. The only thing that Id change on the Dell is to have a USB3 hub built-in instead of the old, out-of-date, USB2 connections. Other brands are doing that, but those also had more complaints about dead pixels and other returns. USB3 is not a major part of my peripherals yet, but it is growing. Overall (with 1 month of use), Im happy with this purchase and would choose the same monitor again.

Purchased this to pair with a Late 2013 15 MacBook Pro Retina. I chose this monitor, as opposed to the U2414H, because it has a DVI connector and I didnt want to deal with the Mac thinking it was a TV, which has been reported with other monitors that only support HDMI or DisplayPort. I was able to plug this Dell into my MiniDisplayPort to DVI Apple adapter without issue and the Mac recognized the full resolution right away. The model number is U2412M rev. A01 manufactured in June 1014. Many have reported problems with a yellow tint to this monitor and they found it to be unacceptable. I was afraid that I might also be one of those people. When compared with the MacBook Retina screen (which is much higher quality) the Dell did seem to have a yellow tint. I tried to use the Apple color calibration tools and the settings on the display to correct it, but I could never find the right adjustments to get it to look right. I thought I might have to return it and try my luck with a different panel, but I was able to find a color profile on http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm that worked very well. I am not sure that it completely eliminated the yellow tint, but it did pull the display colors more in line with the Retina panel and that was really all I was looking for. It looks great now and I dont notice a yellow tint anymore. I am not a photo or graphic artist so I am not hung up on calibration per say, but I dont want to be distracted by stark color differences when starring at both screens. The ICC profile did the trick for me. So far... I am a happy owner.

Ive had this monitor for a couple of weeks now and Im very happy with it. My last monitor was a Sylvania 17 LCD that I squeezed well over ten years out of so this was a big upgrade in size and clarity. I dont play many games on the PC so I cant comment on how well it does on games but this monitor is well named as Ultrasharp when it comes to text editing or web surfing. Ive always liked the Dell Ultrasharps, having used them a lot in my occupation, so after doing my research my purchase boiled down to the either the Asus VG248QE or the Dell. The reviews on the Asus were excellent and if I was more into gaming I might have picked that one because of the fast refresh rate, (although a lot of people on youtube are happy using the Utrasharp for gaming ). So far Ive found no bad pixels, no yellow tint or any other flaws, calibration was perfect out of the box. The stand is excellent, very sturdy and adjustable in all directions. The 90 degree flip is nice for connecting cables to the bottom of the monitor. I purchased the Dell AX510 sound bar that mounts on the bottom of the monitor so I could use the on board headphone connector. The sound is good for youtube videos but falls short for music. Fortuneatly, I also have a stereo sound system hooked up so its no big deal. For anybody on the fence about this monitor check out youtube, lots of good info.

When I first turned this monitor on I was disappointed in its performance. The colors were rather dull. It needs to be adjusted correctly. I first used Liquid Color which made things better. Then I made manual adjustments based on my subjective preferences. These adjustments were made to Game Mode. Here are the settings I like: Brightness 76 Contrast 76 Hue 50 Saturation 70 Sharpness 50 Dynamic cont. On Using these, the display looks beautiful. I liked it so much, I bought another one of these monitors and I now have a dual monitor setup. For this I bought the Planar 997-5253-00 Dual Monitor Stand which works very well and is of high quality. I use dual displays on the Game setting mostly for Flight Simulator X, which looks great. (For routine everyday use I shut one of the monitors off and set the other to Standard.) So I suspect that some of the ho-hum reviews are based on sub-optimal adjustments. Admittedly, adjusting it is somewhat of a hassle, and my settings are subjective, but if one is willing to do some tweaking youll get a nice looking display. You also get 1920 x 1200 resolution which is becoming less common for some reason, but it is what I prefer.

This review is for people who are trying to decide between the Dell UltraSharp U2412M vs Asus PA248Q. I was really stuck when it came to picking between the two as they are very similar and in the end I ordered both of them and was able to compare them side by side. The following reviews are from my personal experience comparing them side by side, not from any of the specs. Hopefully this helps someone make the right choice for them. The Dell: The picture quality is slightly better than the Asus. Colors are a little bit more rich and the contrast is a bit better on the Dell. Refresh rate seemed to be about equal on both monitors. The monitor I had did not have any back light bleed either although it did have a bit of IPS glow (a little less than the Asus) but thats expected. The anti glare coating was not a problem for me at all. The Dell also is missing several features that are nice to have. It only has DVI and VGA and the USB ports on the side are 2.0. One complaint I had with the Dell is the menu system. Your choices for calibrating the monitor are fairly limited and the menu system is not the easiest to use. The stand feels good and it is spring loaded so the monitor slides up and down very easily. The Asus: This monitor seems to me to be superior is every way except for the picture quality. The picture quality, while very good, is slightly worse than the Dell as mentioned above. A lot of people complain about back light bleed with this monitor but the one I received had no back light bleed. It did have a little bit more IPS glow than the Dell however. One nice part is that the Asus has tons of nice features such as USB 3.0, 1:1 picture scaling, it comes calibrated, has HDMI, has picture in picture and has measurement overlays on the screen. The menu system on the Asus is better than the Dell because it gives you a lot more options for adjusting the image and the buttons on the side include a little joystick that makes operating the menu very easy and nice. The Stand is very sturdy and nice although I think I preferred the Dell simply because of the spring. The anti glare coating on the Asus did not bother me at all and is basically the same as on the Dell. One other thing is that even though the Asus is shown with a red line on the bottom, it doesnt actually have it, its just black. Conclusion: The Dell has slightly better picture quality and the Asus has better everything else.

When I was deciding on a monitor, the whole Dell UltraSharp line was brought up again and again. Its safe to say they have a reputation for quality monitors. Of course, they come at a premium. Id imagine some people wonder what that premium gets. Well, to be fair, I dont necessarily think this will be worth it versus lower-priced competitors for everyone, but it was for me. Here are the things that sold me on this monitor, (and that it delivers in use), in order of importance to me: 1) The wide viewing angle. I can be a bit of a slouch at the computer. My old 23 inch monitor, a fairly inexpensive one, had a smaller viewing angle, so that if I slouched, it appeared darker. No such issue with this Dell. You dont have to get yourself in just the right spot. This is really nice for practical reasons, but of course encourages bad posture on my part! 2) Great Stand The stand on this thing is awesome. It goes way up and way down. It tilts to vertical. Its stable as can be. On my cheap Ikea desk, my typing would cause my old monitor on its flimsy stand to jiggle a bit. No such issue here. 3) Aspect Ratio The monitor is 1920x1200, instead of the now more-common 1920x1080. This gives some more pixels of height to the screen. If your focus is movies, perhaps this isnt the best thing (although its a minor issue at worst). For my personal uses of gaming, browsing the web, and working, that is great extra space, plain and simple. 4) Colors! Pretty simple, the Dell delivers rich, accurate colors. A lot of this depends on ones calibrations, but the Dell makes my old monitor, side-by-side, look much more washed out than I ever realized it was. So those were my key points. The Dell has delivered flawlessly on them. Is it worth it for everyone? Not necessarily. Is my older 23 inch monitor still capable of delivering a perfectly nice experience? Sure. In the end, though, you are getting what you pay for with this monitor. Thats not in question.

Very sturdy monitor with well designed stand. In the era of cheap shiny plastics that belong in a discotheque this monitor has a nice, professional matte finish, plastics on this monitor simply have a better look and feel, you immediately understand why you paid more for this monitor. Now I would like to comment on this occasionally mentioned here yellow tint problem. First of all majority of monitors have some tint one way or another - a perfect white may exist only on a printed white paper. My iMacs screen doesnt give me a perfect white either. Second I would not call it yellow, it is more like an ivory. Third the monitor comes with the Standard pre-set mode, if you select some other available mode from the menu say Game or Movie the tint becomes even more white. You can also play directly with the colour temperature setting and make your tint for example blue if this is your fancy. In other words this yellow tint issue is in my opinion a phony problem that stems from ignorance. And playing with settings in this monitor is super easy, no manual needed, I was doing it within few seconds of unpacking, it is so intuitive. Having said all of the above I do allow for a possibility that some of those who reported this yellow tint might have indeed got a defective unit. Thanks for reading and good luck with your purchase.
