> 3 dayI bought it from Amazon to replace my old Samsung SynMaster 2333. Almost wants to give four stars but U2412 didnt have HDMI port. A little disappointed. But the monitor is very slim and cute. Very good compact design. Overall, I love it. U2412M comes with a smaller portfolio of input connectors and multimedia options compared to the more expensive Dell U2410. First of all Dell has removed the HDMI option. That might prove to be a problem if you are planning on connecting external players or gaming consoles. The SD card reader has also been removed but to me that is no great loss. Power consumption is significantly lower, though. Dell U2412M has fairly good color accuracy out-of-box and even better color accuracy after calibration. Black depth is lower than on U2410 and U2311H and our U2412M had no serious problems with clouding / backlight bleeding. For U2412M, Dell has used a standard gamut eIPS panel, which basically means that it cannot reproduce the wider AdobeRGB gamut that U2410 can. For most users it does not really matter but more for advanced users I think U2410 is a better choice. On the other hand U2412H gave us slightly better color gradation and shadow detailing. Dell U2412M has less motion blur than U2410, but more overdrive trailing. The latter is easier to spot in FPS or racing games but the difference is not significant. However, we still recommend 120 Hz TN panels for gaming. Another problem with U2412M is the crystalized coating on the IPS panel that continues to annoy some users but this is a general thing for IPS based monitors. All in all Dell U2412M is a great addition to Dells line-up of UltraSharp PC monitors. However, we do not view it as an improvement over the current U2410, and Dell also tells us that U2410 will function as a step-up model in the future. If you can live without HDMI and do not require the wide gamut panel, I think U2412M is a great value for money monitor and I therefore award it with our Highly Recommended Award.

> 3 dayI am a professional photographer and look at 100s images a week. My previous Samsung burned out and I needed a monitor for clear and and good resolution but at a budget price. I looked and after reading the reviews of monitors, the Dell 2412 certainly surpassed all the others out there in the below $300 price range. I received the monitor ( even sooner than Amazon estimated...Thanks Amazon) opened it and had it up and running in under 30 minutes. It came right up and looked great right out of the box. I did calibrate it later as it did need some tweaking but nothing dramatic. The GUI is well positioned, very easy and logical to use. The stand I think is certainly strong enough and it rotates, extends, and tilts very nicely. Found no bad pixels and the 1980X1200 is extremely nice compared to the 1980X1080. Overall I am VERY Satisfied. I gave it a 4 vs. 5 star because it had no hdmi input or 3.0 USBs. Actually very minor but just thought it should have had a hdmi for an IPS panel. The DVI output is just as good as an hdmi unless you need sound or you have a much larger display. Read a few complaints about the stand, bad pixels, too bright, poorly made, unattractive material used for the matte screen causing an unpleasant look.................but IMHO this is an excellent monitor for the price and I experienced none of shortfalls others have mentioned. I am running Vista and this review was written after only 3 days of use.

> 3 dayThe quality of the monitor is excellent regarding functionality. It has the best controls that I have seen on monitors that I have used. The quality of the pictures is excellent (4 out of 5 stars), but the quality of the text is 3 out of 5 stars. I guess I got spoiled with the quality of retina displays on Apple products that is not available on PCs. My test consists of writing the word milling or optimum using Arial font. With anything at or below 7 pt. size, the i and the l become a blur. You could improve this by 50% spending $500 to $600 for a better monitor that also may require an upgrade on your video card depending on the capabilities of your current card. The only other negative that did not affect me much is the lack of HDMI port. For now I will keep the monitor and check the 4K resolution monitors once the prices come down since that move will require a video card upgrade. I bought the monitor from Amazon on August 10 2014 and the manufacturing date is June 2014, Revision A01. I have not seen any of the yellow tint mentioned by other reviewers. CORRECTION: I guess that is the problem with all the reviews. Many times what we report as a defective product is a result of our own mistakes. I connected the monitor to my laptop and the text resolution is much better. I have what is supposed to be a powerful video card on my desktop (Nvidia GTX 285) and the laptop is producing sharper text than the desktop. Tested with different cables and monitors and the result is the same. So My issue is with the video card. I increased the monitor rating from 3 to 4 stars. Is not 5 stars because I can see the granularity of the pixels. Something that could be better in more expensive monitors with pixel size of 0.23mm instead of the 0.27mm this monitor has. I am still keeping the monitor because of the price/performance ratio. I would recommend it if you want to stay under $275 for a 24 monitor. UPDATE 16 Sep 2014: Exactly a month and 10 days after purchasing the monitor the DVI-D input stopped working. I had one computer and two laptops each connected to one of the 3 inputs available in the monitor. The VGA and DisplayPort inputs continue working but the DVI-D does not work any more. Because it is over a month I cannot exchange it with Amazon. Called DELL customer support and they will replace it with a refurbished unit. My customer satisfaction is going down hill. I will not buy another monitor from Amazon unless I add an extended warranty which typically is not recommended to get anyway. I will think twice if I ever plan to purchase a large screen TV from Amazon since I will be running the same risk.

Greater than one weekThis is an excellent 1920x1200 monitor and you cant get anything better for the price. Pros: 1920x1200 resolution, 16:10 ration means more vertical space. More comfortable to read websites, better viewing angles in games, still capable of displaying 1080p video. If you are working with 1080p video, you can see the entire frame, and still have substantial space on the screen for toolbars in your editing software of choice. This is simply not possible with a 1920x1080 screen. IPS panel: while this panel lacks the color depth of much more expensive monitors, again, you wont find anything better under $300. Excellent color depth and reasonably good accuracy out of the box, fairly easy to calibrate if you arent satisfied with the factory settings. Obviously, good viewing angles. Youll never use a TN panel again after seeing this monitor. Only drawback is the problem common to all IPS panels, it is difficult to get perfect black contrast. Gaming use: I mainly use my monitor for gaming. The resolution, color accuracy and flexibility of the stand allow for extremely comfortable viewing in all my games. The 60Hz refresh rate is adequate, it is the standard and you can only get better by sacrificing the benefits of an IPS panel. The input lag is acceptably low for a 60Hz panel (under 1 frame, so you should never notice an input delay). Cons: This model does not support Adobe RGB color space; this is only a concern for seriously hardcore professional artists. Even semi-serious amateurs really do not need to worry. As some other reviewers have said, if you dont know what this means, dont worry. This is the perfect monitor for almost everyone. The newer U2413 has better color depth but costs almost $500, so its really only for people who make money with their pictures. Personal notes: My monitor was great for a while, but after several months I got an intermittent flickering. It also had minor backlight bleed that was only visible in nearly all-black screens. I called Dell about the flickering (expecting them to tell me I did something wrong) and in two days they had shipped me a replacement U2413 (the next better model). I dont expect they often do free upgrades but they will always replace your unit as quickly as possible if you have a hardware problem. I think I lucked out and all they had in stock was the better model. Anyway, no other monitor manufacturer has such excellent, rapid customer service. All of the Ultrasharp line (U-whatever) have a 3-year warranty, which is the best in the industry. Im never buying a monitor from anyone but Dell.

> 3 dayVery sturdy monitor with well designed stand. In the era of cheap shiny plastics that belong in a discotheque this monitor has a nice, professional matte finish, plastics on this monitor simply have a better look and feel, you immediately understand why you paid more for this monitor. Now I would like to comment on this occasionally mentioned here yellow tint problem. First of all majority of monitors have some tint one way or another - a perfect white may exist only on a printed white paper. My iMacs screen doesnt give me a perfect white either. Second I would not call it yellow, it is more like an ivory. Third the monitor comes with the Standard pre-set mode, if you select some other available mode from the menu say Game or Movie the tint becomes even more white. You can also play directly with the colour temperature setting and make your tint for example blue if this is your fancy. In other words this yellow tint issue is in my opinion a phony problem that stems from ignorance. And playing with settings in this monitor is super easy, no manual needed, I was doing it within few seconds of unpacking, it is so intuitive. Having said all of the above I do allow for a possibility that some of those who reported this yellow tint might have indeed got a defective unit. Thanks for reading and good luck with your purchase.

> 3 dayPros: - I bought an IPS display for good color and this monitor has it. I was blown away at first when I switched to it. And I miss it now that Ive returned it. Im having trouble finding another monitor that will match the display quality of this one. - Great viewing angle without color distortion. Cons: - The anti-glare coating was more noticeable than other Dell monitors Ive used. It wasnt extremely distracting, but it was there. Especially plain white surfaces, like web pages, would shimmer a bit. - The IPS glow, especially in the bottom right corner. I didnt think it would bother me that much, but it did. I havent seen IPS glow this bad on Apple IPS displays so I wasnt expecting it from the Dell either. Under certain circumstances it was almost completely invisible, but on dark images, especially those near black, it was extremely noticeable and distracting. I found myself tilting the monitor, moving it around, moving my head, trying to make it go away, but didnt. For comparison, the U2312HM also has this problem but for some reason it is much less visible. - The monitor failed spectacularly after less than two months of use, with bands of random color running down the screen. I probably just got a lemon, but it impacts my perception of the monitors reliability. Service: - I had problems getting Dell customer service to help me because they expect the monitor to have a Service Tag number or for you to have a Dell order number. This monitor came with neither from Amazon, so you can expect to get zero help from Dell if something goes wrong with your monitor. Amazon finally took it back from me, but buyer beware buying Dell products from anyone other than Dell.

> 3 dayFirst Impressions I use the monitor for business applications (MS Office mostly Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, plus Internet browsing, etc... Id like to have a larger screen with higher resolution such as the Dell 27 inches, but I think that at the present time, this is where the sweet spot for performance vs value is (24 inches). Ive been using a Dell UltraSharp 2405 monitor, which I got from Dell as a replacement when the original died one month or so short from the expiration date of its 3 years warranty, and which is working quite well after about 3+ years, but I had read positive comments about the U2412M in CNET and other web sites, and was considering upgrading. However, I had also read conflicting comments here in Amazon about the anti-glare coating, and about color accuracy. Ive always thought that the anti-glare screen of the DELL 2405 was perfect for me and Im not very concerned with color accuracy (within reason) as Im not into photography, graphic arts or anything like that... But when you read reviews like that, it makes you pause. In any case, I decided to try it and decide for myself, and I am glad I did. For what I do, and at this price point, this monitor is just fine. No issue at all with the anti-glare coating. I cant tell if theres a difference or not versus the coating on the Dell 2405. In fact, had I not read about it, I would not even known anything about that. And for my business application, the default factory-set color calibration is also OK. I do not plan to tweak it. The images are very sharp. Fine and/or small text is easy to ready. I also like the new base and support arm better, and the fact that its so much lighter. Congratulations DELL! Having said that, it does not have some of the connections available in the Dell 2405 (i.e. SD card ports), but it has others such as DisplayPort. An HDMI port would have been nice to have, but since I use a Dell E Latitude docking station, I am using the DisplayPort and/or DVI port. It comes with a power cable (of course) and also a USB cable, a VGA cable and a DVI cable. At this point in time, Id rather had seen a DVI and a DisplayPort cable inside the box, and not the legacy VGA cable, but it may be helpful for other users. Not an issue anyway. A few days after having received the new monitor, I decided that for this price it was worth having a dual set, so I ordered another one. Now my EXCEL spreadsheets can finally stretch as wide as necessary, or I can work in two applications side-by-side. Nice and worth it.

> 3 dayAs a long-time techie, Ive had a problem with Dell since their inception. Bad service, bad products, everything you wouldnt want in a company. Ive always avoided their products over the years. So it pains me to say that these monitors are top notch. The manufacture date is Sept 2012, not some random month last year. Initial product launch was early last year, so I was hesitant of getting something that has been sitting in a warehouse for almost two years. Five stars to the seller for this. The reviews here are what swayed me (that and Dell uses the same panels as other big names like Sony/Samsung, etc.), so I figured...the resolution is what I wanted, the price point is what I wanted, and looking at unrelated Dell products, the reviews have gotten a lot better, so I went for it. Crisp, clear, no dead pixels, they look fine out of the box compared to my two 24 Samsungs that Ive calibrated. Ill still have to go over the settings, just like any other monitor. Bezels are clean and slim. Solid construction throughout. Packed well. I bought two, and mounted them on a dual monitor stand I picked up [...] (5 stars to this product too, by the way) These monitors are for programming, so the 8ms G2G is not a concern. No photo/video editing, no games. _________________ Update 2/16/2013: I bought these last November, and Ive had them on 24/7 (with sleep mode). Every day I look forward to working on the computer with these monitors. They are just fantastic. Im adding a user-photo to show them installed.

> 3 dayI have been using the monitor for only a week, so I can say nothing about reliability. It is labeled with a manufacture date of November 2012. The colors are very nice, perhaps a bit better than my older LCD monitors, but nothing spectacular like others have reported. The 1920x1200 format is very nice for CAD (computer aided design) work. There is no problem with the antiglare coating, as others have reported. It has a smooth flat appearance just like my two older Samsung monitors. I work mostly with white backgrounds (CAD and word processing) and I see none of the glittery effect reported in earlier posts. I have noticed no stuck pixels or the backlight bleed that others have reported. Perhaps these were initial production problems. I see no blurring, streaking or other artifacts when playing DVD movies or with action games like Flight Simulator X (running with all options maximized, 30 frames per second and 1920x1200 pixels). Other comments about the 8 ms refresh causing blurring are pretty silly, since our nervous system cant distinguish events shorter than about 20-30 ms. It is connected to an Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card through a DisplayPort cable. Pros: Easy setup. Windows 7 found it and automatically installed a U2412M driver. Height, angle and rotation adjustments are easy. Cons: It doesnt include a DisplayPort (DP) cable. It has black buttons on a black bezel (if there are labels, they are black too). They are essentially invisible under normal room lighting. I know this is the current silly fad, but it is just stupid! When I first turned it on it reported that there was no VGA cable connected and that it would shut down in five minutes. This was silly since it was connected with a DisplayPort cable. I pushed on the buttons (not sure which one because it is black on black) and eventually an input selection menu appeared. When I selected the DisplayPort input it switched and has worked correctly ever since. This should have been unnecessary - with only one cable connected it should have auto detected the signal. A minor annoyance is the way the power, video and USB cables attach on the rear of the display panel. When you rotate the display the cables are dragged with it and may hang on nearby objects. It would have been much better to attach the cables to the base and make the connections to the display internally at the rotation point. The display has two USB ports on the left edge. If used these cables stick out several inches making it necessary to have a lot of clearance. These ports cant be used in a multi monitor system with another monitor sitting next to the U2412M (or anything else close by). Also, if the monitor is rotated these cables are dragged to the top of the display high above the desk top. The side of the display isnt a good location for cable connections. Other comments: This is not a problem with the monitor, but when I installed it Microsoft Office had to be activated a second time. Just for changing monitors on the machine! Thats nuts! I dont know if Microsoft does this for all monitors. I knocked off a star because of the black on black buttons without labels and the failure to auto detect the signal. Otherwise it is very nice.

> 3 dayPrevious to this I had run a pair of Dell 2005FPW / 2007FPW S-IPS monitors because I do amateur photography and some design work. Color shift and accuracy matters more than response for me, even though I do game sometimes. The Dell 2005 was dying, losing its sync until warm ....So I went off to find a new monitor. I really wanted a 24 this time vs a direct replacement for the 20.1. But I was worried that e-IPS was fine for most, but not someone who often returns monitors... ME. My 2007FPW works fine.. but after 5 years the CFL back-light is unable to reach the 120 luminance setting I use when calibrating.. besides that it is working well and I have been happy with Dell Monitors. Next year the other monitor will get replaced.. but not sure what size. So After reading all the great reviews and the few bad reviews.. I decided to go for it on the Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24 My concerns going in were: > LED Backlite being too blue > Coating being differing / worse than what I was used to > Viewing Angles being less than S-IPS I got it set up today.... WOW!! I love the larger screen area... The controls are easy to use and the labels on the screen that come up make adjusting it in the dark easy.. Even before I got it calibrated there were some things I noticed. The color was good and it didnt suffer from the intense blue tints some of the first LED backlit screens did which made me avoid them for years. I like the anti-reflective coating. If I put my face closer than 18 inches from the monitor I can see it, just like on my previous two monitors and then only on a white screen. I dont see it when working at my normal distance which my eyes are tuned for. (only distance I dont need glasses) I use a Pantone i1Display to calibrate my monitors.. It calibrated perfectly... and am thrilled I wish the old monitor was as bright... but both are now color-temp and contrast calibrated to almost match. As you see I gave it 5 Stars.. Here are the low points, (Note that on a $290 24inch IPS monitor these NITS are not worth more than a half star and I am rounding up. >E-IPS vs S-IPS Side to Side in landscape mode I see the same viewing angle. If I stand and look down, I see the new 24 dim faster than the older S-IPS so the top to bottom viewing angle is not quite as good. I probably wouldnt run ii in Portrait mode because of that. But I havent tried.. When I do I will update the review. >When Calibrating the monitor the contrast, brightness and RGB settings were a bit coarser than I would like. This means that while my eye couldnt see a shift in brightness or contrast.. the calibration sensor would jump from just below perfect to just above prefect on the sensed levels. But I got it where I wanted and the calibtation curve as good as any Monitor I have owned. Thats it so far. If you cant deal with the screen coating or sit the right distance from the screen and are used to clear screens.. I can see why some people might not like this.. But I have a Window and or a TV behind me in the office.. the Anti-reflective coating is a godsend.. I have NO reflections even from intense sources of light behind me. For Photographers and Designers looking for a good monitor on a budget, that can be calibrated this is a solid choice I have nor problem reccomending.(Though at this price is not able to display a full Adobe RGB Gamut.) Dell saved some money by dropping HDMI ( so did my HP notebook which also has display port) If neded the adapters are a couple bucks. A non-issue. But the image quality is top notch. And great for this use.
