This item is sold without a connecting threaded pipe. Ill explain this observation after I point out what they should be selling! The omitted item is a half-inch pipe, threaded at each end, all the way to a narrow connecting section in the middle (either smooth or able to accept a hex drive). Ideally this pipe would be around 4 to 5 inches and would have constant thread diameter so you simply tape up the ends and screw them into the wall and fitting as far as needed. Too long? All you have to do is trim the pipe ends with a saw or dremel. That would be a beautiful, elegant solution. Time to install, on average, less than 15 minutes with the correct tools to-hand. So whats the issue here? Well Lowes, Home Depot etc dont sell threaded pipes with a constant external and internal (thread) diameter. This is because the want the thread to bite at a certain point and form a decent seal. You can then crank the pipe maybe a half turn to grind metal threads together and form a seal. But unfortunately thats not what we want here. In our case we need adjust-ability. So having drawn a blank at Lowes/Home Depot/ Ace Hardware, I set out for specialist plumbing outlets. No joy! A completely fruitless and expensive waste of time. I eventually went to a friend with a professional lathe who turned threads onto a length of pipe for me. Installation time, 2 days. Ive bought many Delta items for plumbing over the years and Ive come to the unalterable conclusion that Delta hates the home DIYer. The item itself is reasonably decent but also crazy expensive for what is dubious metal and a cheap plastic seal.

Perfect. It looks so modern and classic at the same time. Install is easy. I took the pressure off my husband (somewhat) by installing the complete Vero set myself. In all fairness, I had him check to make sure I tightened without over tightening each piece.

This is a fundamentally flawed design. It requires a 1/2 MPT nipple protruding from your wall at EXACTLY the right distance, or you cannot get a seal. I installed three of these in a new construction shower, both the plumbing and the tile done by seasoned high end professionals. When it came time to mount this shower elbow, I had a choice of 1.5 or 2 inch long nipples. The 2 was too long: I could get a good seal on the threads but the elbow wouldnt bottom out on the tile. The 1.5 would bottom on the tile but the threads werent sealed. i tried multiple times using teflon tape, pipe dope, more teflon tape, all to no avail. Once its bottomed out, youre done. The only way to make it tighter would be to turn the entire unit another revolution, which I also tried, scratching the surface of the elbow even through my protective cloth, and almost breaking off the fitting inside the wall. Bottom line: this product is flawed. It needs a totally different design so it has some adjustability to the mounting and sealing. Avoid.

To the people who purchased this fitting and it worked perfectly, I am happy for you! For those of you purchased this item and had a bad experience I share your frustration! I have to say I thought DELTA could have engineered this a little better and built in some adaptability. This thing is very unforgivable. It is hit or miss when tightening. Also in the process of trying to install my stainless steel fitting I scratched the surface in a place where it can be seen. Removed and attempted to buff out the scratch. Imagine my surprise to find out this is really a brass fitting with a coating of stainless steel! I dont think this was mentioned in the description. Thought I was paying for stainless. Well being the glutton for punishment and wanting things to match I purchased a second one! This time I am going to use an Inlet Nipple 1/2 NPS (National Pipe Straight thread) meaning the threads do not taper! Maybe one of these should have been included so it can be custom trimmed to length. It has been a very frustrating experience.

There isnt a great deal to say about this piece other than the finish matches all my other Delta Vero showed valves and hand shower perfectly. Looks nice!
