GE Lighting CYNC Outdoor Smart Plug, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Outlet Socket, Weather Resistant Plug, Voice Control Outlet, Works with Alexa and Google Home

I bought this plug to control an outdoor fountain through Alexa. At first, it connected to Alexa just fine, but after a couple of months, it stopped responding to commands through Alexa. It would still respond to commands through the GE Sync app, but not Alexa. I removed it from both the GE Sync app and Alexa, and reinstalled it after a factory reset. It connected fine to the GE Sync app, but then would not connect to Alexa. It took a couple more weeks before it finally just showed up randomly in Alexa. After about a week, though, even though it still shows up in Alexa, Alexa cant control it at all just like before. I also use several GE Sync light bulbs, and Ive had no problem connecting them to Alexa because you can connect them without using the GE Sync skill. Thats the problem with this plug is that you have to connect it using the skill, not natively like the light bulbs, and the skill gets 1 star in Alexa. This is really disappointing for a name brand like GE, and Im just going to relegate this to Christmas light duty and get some no name brand for the fountain.

App is the worst I’ve ever tried to use. Have used it for a couple of years and has been a family joke that the app is possessed, with random turn-on and turn-off of outdoor lights and fountain. Much too much time spent, unsuccessfully trying to find causes in app. Finally had enough and am replacing!

The Wi-Fi connectivity, on the other hand, provides me with remote control options from anywhere using my home network, which is extremely convenient when I am away from home or want to schedule specific on/off times for my outdoor devices. The versatility of the GE CYNC Outdoor Smart Plug is also noteworthy. It has two outlets, allowing me to connect and control multiple devices simultaneously. This has been particularly useful for my outdoor string lights and my garden fountain, as I can now easily turn them on and off at specific times or even control them with voice commands through my smart home system. Once set up, the performance of the GE CYNC Outdoor Smart Plug has been reliable. The connection has remained stable, and I have experienced no issues with dropped connections or malfunctioning. The plug has also held up well to outdoor conditions, as it is weather-resistant and designed to withstand the elements. In conclusion, despite the initial setup challenges, the GE CYNC Outdoor Smart Plug has proven to be a valuable addition to my outdoor devices. Does what I need with easy setup and very little fuss.

I have two of these. Pretty much everything in my home is on a smart device. I have an Echo Dot and/or Echo Show in every room, even on my screened in porch. I have multiple smart plugs and smart bulbs, a Ring doorbell and a smart lock. All this is to point out that I am VERY familiar with setting up smart devices. This is one of the worst to set up! Both of them took MULTIPLE attempts before I was able to get them to complete the setup process. With the second one, I finally gave up and sent an email to their support. Unfortunately, they are closed on the weekends, so I got an email back that said they opened on Monday at 9am and would get back to me. They didn’t reply back to me until late Tuesday afternoon and told me that I needed to try to use a different name to set the plug up, not the one I used for my first one! Duh! I politely let them know that I’m not an idiot and that I had used a different name all 6 or 7 times I attempted to get the stupid thing to connect! I eventually tried again and fortunately it finally connected! What both of mine did (in case you buy this and have the same issue) - it would go through the whole set up, naming the room the plug would be in, naming each outlet, connecting to the WiFi, etc and the last step would say “Cannot add device” (see photo). When it finally was able to set up it was after I had had to turn my phone off and back on (for a completely unrelated issue), so maybe try that too. Once installed, it was super easy to add it to my Alexa app and it works great. The onscreen set up for it is great with animations showing you step by step. They just need to do something to make it connect and finish the set up better. Would easily give this 5 stars if that were fixed.

This is a great addition to my outdoor bistro lights. Easy to use through the app or a button on the unit to turn on/off. Only complaint, I set up an auto on program and can’t figure out how to change it! Also, there’s no option to turn off at a certain time.

This was a sturdy and solid product. Used it for exterior Christmas lights. It rained a great deal while in use. Stayed plugged in 30 days straight. Easily integrated with my smart home assistant.

The product itself works well with the app. However it seems to to get disconnected from the appa and Google home often.
