> 3 dayI love this phone, and it does absolutely everything perfectly. My only issue is that the receiver is somewhat weak and frequently tells me Im roaming what Im not. People with Apple phones or Samsung phones around me are showing four stars while my phone is saying E, for Edge reception.

> 3 dayI purchased this phone as the last in a long line of honor phones. From the 4x to here, and I think this one has surpassed the prior ones in most every manner, it feels glamorous and is responsive even after months of use. However, a case is a necessity. Even with a case, I shattered the glass back of the screen after maybe a month.

Greater than one weekThe speed is fast, and the size and weight are good. But the back cover is very slippery. If you dont install the protective case, it will automatically fall off, which is a bit dangerous. In short, the price is worth the project.

Greater than one weekTo start, I want to clear up some false information thats being spread on here. I received the JSN L23 version which gets perfect signal on T-Mobile (I get perfect 4G but no LTE) (EDIT: As of an April update I now get 4G LTE). If you live in the US and dont receive the JSN-L23, send it back and get the right version; dont write reviews and answer questions saying it doesnt work. Onto the phone, this will be my first phone review, and I cant say anything that hasnt been said in countless other reviews, so Ill try to be concise: You will probably not find a phone of this quality for under $250. Definitely not if you live in the US (this phone was supposed to come to the US, but the government battling with Huawei has prevented that). The camera is pretty good (for the price, especially), but not Huawei Mate 20 Pro $1000+ good, obviously. If you want the absolute best photography youll have to spend a lot more. The AI enhancements help get good photos, though, and portrait mode is effective. The battery life is amazing so far. I went 15 minutes without draining 1%. Moderate use will get you through a full day, for sure. The downside is that it charges with Micro-USB instead of USB Type-C, so you will not have Quick Charge speed. The performance is very smooth. Multitasking, social media use, and media viewing like YouTube are all quick and snappy with no lag. Gameplay is almost completely smooth with either no or very rare lag on PUBG, though it recommends medium graphics instead of high, so I imagine performance might suffer with high. The phones features and UI being good are subjective; Android purists will not like the customized nature of EMUI. However, if youre coming from iOS or dont care about stock Android, you will enjoy it. Its evolved a lot and is faster than before, and comes with plenty of useful features (e.g., a built in screen recorder, and a phone transfer app that makes moving files from an old phone simple and easy). The display is also gorgeous. Coming from a 2K AMOLED display, it isnt so much of a downgrade to be a deal breaker. Its about identical in function; very bright and sharp. Not as good as displays that cost 3X as much, but its unrealistic to expect that. Audio is surprisingly good. Hardcore audiophiles will want to invest in speakers, but for casual users its above-average quality that translates to good sound in real world use. My Axon 7 with dual front-facing Dolby Atmos stereo speakers is the winner, but that phone is old, and the phones that have those speakers now cost 3X as much as this one. Bottom line, the audio is good enough, but if you want to get the best audio, you might want to get a speaker. Specifically, singing sounds clear enough, but some instruments can sound a bit tinny. But dont get me wrong, you will not be disappointed with the audio. Onto the general aesthetic, the nearly bezel-less 6.5 inch screen looks great. You can also hide the notch if you hate notches. The back of the phone is simply gorgeous. It is unique and looks premium. To conclude this review, I want to say that you will not be disappointed with this phone. For the price, its amazing, and in general it is pretty close to the level of flagships that cost 3 - 4X the price. This phone does not look cheap or poorly-made. It is very premium and will impress people. Huawei redefines the concept of budget phones. There is no real need to pay any more for a phone. Its only missing NFC, wireless charging, Type-C charging, water resistance, and a few other small things. Remember: send it back if you dont get the right version.

> 3 dayI absolutely love this phone! Great buy and great price. When texting though it seems the touch is a bit off. You do have to get used to placement of fingers. Takes nice pictures. Screen display looks better than higher priced phones. I would definately buy this brand again. I bought this after breaking my Asus Zenphone which is also a great phone for the price. Really dont know which I like better but very satisfied with this purchase for sure

> 3 dayWhen I first read the Huawei/Honor was bring out the 8X I was super stoked. I had the 7X and loved it, but I wanted something that was quicker and had more native storage. I followed the release of the 8X and was crestfallen when it was not released for the US, but recently I was informed that the JSN-L23 version worked for the US. I checked it out and verified the bands and became a very happy camper. I ordered this phone for my early birthday present. The first device I received was awesome... but it was the wrong color. Amazon sent me out a replacement that was correct so that I have this gorgeous blue phone in my hand. I hed my wife give the first phone a try and she really liked it so I had to order her one as well. PROS * Price - You get what you pay for and then some. This phone could easily sell for double and still be a decent buy. * Battery life - no complaints here. I can go all day and still have plenty of juice left. Im not a gamer but I travel every day for work and use my phone for my paperwork, consulting maps, and as my ereader. * Screen - my first thought on a 6.5 1080p screen was, will it look good enough? Yes, it does. It looks great. It is nice and bright. The notch is not too big and leaves plenty of room for notifications and status icons. The pre-installed screen protector was a very nice addition, as well. * Hardware - This a fast phone. The build is Gorilla glass on the front and back with metal edges, and the included clear case adds extra protection. It has a nice heft in the hand. The fingerprint sensor is dead on in the proper location and is very snappy. Game performance is good and the sound can get more than loud enough. I havent encountered any lag or stuttering in my day to day use thus far. * Cell Reception - I am on Cricket which uses AT&Ts network. I havent had any issues with cell reception. While the L23 version has bands 2, 4, and 5 it does lack bands 12 and 17. As I said above I travel daily for my job and a lot of that is by interstate and I can say that the only areas I have bad reception are the areas that have always had bad reception. I have 4G almost all the time. * Software - my phone is still on Android 8.1.0. From what I have found online Honor pulled the impending update to 9.0 due to some issues that came to light but they still plan on putting it out once these are resolved. I cant speak on EMUI as I use Nova Launcher on all my phones. CONS * Size - No matter what people say size does matter. This is a large phone. I am a big guy with big hands and it can still be a stretch to reach across the screen with my thumb. Hopefully anyone buying a 6.5 phone understands that that is part of the deal. * Camera - while I have not had any issues with the camera I have hear that some people do. Im not a photographer so as long as the image is clear I am fine with it. My pictures thus far have all looked good, but just know that this is a point of contention with some. * Micro USB - this, to me, was really disappointing. I knew about it before I bought the phone but it still bothered me. I have plenty of micro USB cables and all from previous phones (Im looking at you, Honor 7X) but it would have been much nicer to have had USB C. The bottom line is that I am very happy with this device. It is a killer bargain for the price, plus it really turns heads with its looks. Buy it.

09-06-2025i like everything about this phone, i got the blue one. i use the fingerprint reader and it works fantastic, the quality of the screen, the image and the looks of it make this phone look like a $500 and up phone. the battery life is great, the pictures also. buy this phone and believe me, you wont regret it. No need to buy any expensive phone when you already have everything in this Huawei Honor 8x.

07-06-2025I wasnt happy about how Amazon packaged the phone but it showed up undamaged and as advertised. I bought it through MVD to get the correct JSN-L23 so I could use AT&T and I got what I paid for. It came in perfect condition with a screen protector already placed on the screen. It also came with a phone case, charger, head phones and the pin to get the sim tray out. The phone goes over 2 days on a full charge. Way better than the phone I had before.

Greater than one weekOne month review. I am on Metro by T-Mobile network in an urban area. Previously owned a ZTE Zmax Pro, to give context for my level of performance expectation. Overall, I love the Honor 8x for my needs. I purchased through MVD Mobile since their reviews seemed positive and in order to make sure I got the US model. Here are my pros and cons with some tips at the end: Pros 1. Price – Best cost-to-feature ratio of the unlocked phones on Amazon. No regrets there. 2. Battery Life – incredible! I get to the end of the day with over 50% of my battery, and often much more than that. I use my phone for work conference calls throughout the day, and now I never fear that I my phone will die. 3. Hardware – Form factor is perfect for someone with larger hands. Build quality is solid and feels like any premium flagship phone. Love the aesthetic too. Comes with a nice clear case. 4. Screen – Excellent resolution and color options. Comes with a screen protector installed. The notch is small enough to leave room for notification icons. 5. Software – It took a couple weeks to get used to EMUI, but I’m liking it. The settings menu is quite extensive with customization options, which to me is a plus. Out of the box I had EMUI 8, but I received the system upgrade to EMUI 9 (Android Pie) within a couple weeks. Things I love: quick setting for volume silence mode, look/feel of multitasking, YouTube picture-in-picture function, and split screen app capability. And you can get third party launchers and keyboards like with any Android phone. 6. Performance - I have had very few stutters when scrolling. Very responsive phone. Cons 1. Video motion blur – I haven’t seen others complain about this, but I have noticed it across any app that plays video. While the HD 1080p resolution is just fine, whenever there is motion onscreen it is slightly blurred, like the refresh rate is not keeping up. It’s not a deal-breaker and I’ve gotten used to it, but since I watch a lot of videos on my phone it is annoying. 2. LTE Network – While I do have LTE coverage on Metro LTE bands 2 & 4, I would say the coverage is weaker than my ZTE phone which had bands 2, 4, and 12. I notice this most often when I’m inside large buildings. 3. Camera – I heard great reviews so my expectations were a little higher. Its just okay. I have had just average results both indoors and outdoors. Shutter button response is not super fast, especially in AI mode. But I don’t use the camera much anyway. Video recording is adequate if using a tripod. Tips, Tricks, Things I’ve Learned 1. EMUI Themes – I played around with the themes and wanted to share one caution. If you find custom themes online or in the Play store, be careful about adjusting your system font. If you edit your font, it will change EVERY instance of text on your phone, and there is no easy way to revert back to the default font. You have to side-load an APK file in order to reveal the font settings option on your phone. Google “EMUI font enabler APK” for more info on that. 2. RAM management & Battery Optimization – While 4gb of RAM is enough to keep apps active in the background, the phone will still close apps in order to aggressively save battery. There is a way to customize this, but it is deep in the settings menu. Settings > Apps > Apps > Special Access > Battery Optimization > Filter for All Apps > select an app you want to avoid aggressive RAM Management > Don’t Allow. Overall, no regrets. If youre just looking for a reliable phone with great screen and battery life, and you dont care much about camera quality, this is a steal.
