I ordered this product last week and it arrived a few days later. I ordered the combination that had extra filters, rollers, and brushes since I have 4 kids and 4 animals in my home. I should mention, I have a German Shepherd that is constantly shedding and a long-haired Siamese cat. Between these two animals, I should sweep daily, but I dont have that kind of time, so I splurged on the Roomba. My children were super excited when Paul (the irobot- they are on a Beatles kick right now) arrived. It is easy to set up. You must download the iRobot app in order to set up the room maps and cleaning schedules. Some reviewers said it took their robot quite a few times to get an accurate map, not Paul, he had the main floor mapped on day one. You can label the cleaning map, which is convenient, I have mine saved as main floor but then have each individual room labeled separately. The Roomba can do the entire map or just specific rooms. You can schedule the vacuuming to however you need it or just have it clean specific rooms right then and there by the push of a button. So far, I have Paul cleaning at 9 am and 7 pm. The 9 am cleaning takes less than an hour and the 7 pm was even quicker. Paul had no problem transitioning from wood floor to tile. He struggled a little at first with going from the tile to some area rugs, but watching Paul figure out the best way to approach the carpeted areas was interesting. After initially struggling a little bit and getting caught up on the edge of the rug, Paul figured out the best approach and no longer has that issue. We are currently remodeling so we have spots on the kitchen floor where it goes from tile to the tile backer, so a few millimeters difference in height, and Paul had no issues transitioning from these two levels. Paul is not quiet, but he isnt obnoxiously loud while vacuuming. However, when the Roomba goes back to the docking station to self empty it sounds like a jet airplane taking off. So, I would not schedule the cleaning times for when someone is napping. Beyond that, after two days with Paul, we all love him.

We have pets, so I got this, so it would avoid them love the self empty. It’s great at avoiding obstacles, but it’s quite a bit noisier than I thought when it empties it sounds like a airplane taking off I would recommend, but do not use at night when you’re sleeping it will wake you up.

Bought the J7+ to replace an 8 year old model that still works but I was ready for a quieter model. The J7 maps your house which I love and you can program it to pick which areas you want it to clean. Then you favorite the cleaning schedules. It’s very quiet and I like that this model doesn’t have the remote little antennae on top - it would get caught on our kitchen cabinets. I also like that it has a compartment that sucks up the dirt/fur so I don’t have to dump it everyday. We have 1 long-furred dog and white flooring so having the roomba clean my floors daily makes my life much easier. Have only have it for a couple days but so far so good. I’m curious how long the collection bags last, since we went from dumping the compartment to now bag-system in the tower.

    Greater than one week

I fired my new Roomba j7 today excited to see how well it avoids pet waste and objects. It did its vacuum run only getting one pet toy it should have avoided. Not too bad. Then on its way back to the dock it ran straight through a fresh pile of doo recently deposited by our 10 week old puppy. Not good. Thank heavens the suction wasnt on or this new toy would be on its way back to Amazon. Why would they program object avoidance for when it is vacuuming but not for when its returning to the dock! Talk about failure to plan ahead! I already have a robot vac that I recently purchased but when we saw the ad for the waste avoidance system with 9 pets we had to have it. If the next run isnt more successful they will be getting it back!

Thankfully I bought this when there was a sale because it is expensive. It’s worth it though! Being able to walk around the house and not constantly see pet hair all over makes it worth every cent. I have a German Shepard who basically just sheds daily, all year, no days off. If you know, you know. I definitely had to have the one that empties itself. The ONLY reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the self empty for 60 days thing. I looked back at the description but didn’t see much so I can only assume that means you don’t have to change the bag for 60 days. This is probably try for most people, however for the GSD crowd, this is not the case. I have had the vacuum for about three weeks now and I’m going on my 4th bag change. It’s a shame you cant just empty the bag and reuse it. Having to change it so often is going to get expensive but also seems really wasteful. Overall I’m happy with the purchase. It does want I wanted it to do and make life just a little easier (and much less furry).

This is a great piece of technology. It does a pretty good job vacuuming. It sometimes gets caught up on chair legs or doormats. Its rotating brush wore out faster than expected. It often needs to be emptied manually. It takes a very long time. BUT... it does a pretty good job and it does it by itself! There is room for improvement, and we still need and use a real vacuum, but this little thing is a nice addition to our lives.

The Roomba j7 is fantastic. The suction is only okay and its noisy. But I run it every day and keeps my floors very clean. Thats whats important to me. It deals well with obstacles (our house is very messy). It just goes around them. It tries to go back to spots it missed before it finishes. In a month of usage it only got stuck once. You do have to let it explore the first few times it runs. It gradually builds a map and continues to expand it on every run. It is very noisy when it empties itself into the base and is pretty noisy when cleaning hard floors. Its much quieter cleaning carpets and rugs. The vacuum isnt very powerful. So it doesnt always get everything on the first pass. However, you can run it often and it keeps the floors very clean. I run it in most rooms three times a week. I can also tell it to clean any room that gets messy whenever I want. Right now I only have one Roomba for a two story house. This means I have to carry the machine between floors. It works, but clearly having two machines would be better. I will buy another J7+ when I see it on sale.

For the money I thought itd be better than it is. I often catch it going around a room the ring way so that the dust brush is on the opposite side of the wall which is pretty pointless. Often after a few weeks of flawless operation itll suddenly not be able to dock or find its way home or get stuck on obstacles inside of a keep out zone. Obstacle avoidance could be better, I often find the cats mouse toy sucked up in the main rollers. We have a cat and even though the rollers dont get bound up, they do get clogged full of hair so it requires pretty regularly cleaning and disassembly. A really good robot for $300 but a pretty lackluster experience at this price point.

This is an update: We have had this for 10 months. I still like it and it is better than the old ones, BUT it does not pick up cat litter very well. As a matter of fact I give it a poor rating in that dept. It has also ruined our wool rug. It transitions well from floor to rug but leaves dirt and debris on the rug. It has also ruined out hand knotted rug, whereas the older models didnt seem to phase it. We own 2 older Roombas. Have had them for 4 years and they just keep on going. Only had to order one battery in all that time. We have a 3 level house and it has always been a pain to drag one of the Roombas upstairs and keep a eye on the time so decided, after doing a lot of remodeling, we would get the big boy for the middle level and move one of the older ones upstairs. I read a few bad reviews but as a Roomba user for so long I can say that this model is a winner. It has no problem transitioning from my floor to wool rugs. It does make a 747 jet sound when it empties itself but it is much quieter while cleaning that my old guys.
