> 3 dayReason for Kasa Smart Plugs I needed a solution for a traditional timer clock that failed. As I had already bought into the Kasa brand/ecosystem (Ive known and found TP-Link to be a good brand for many years) with a monitoring camera, I decided Id stick with Kasa and find a smart plug option. The main driver being the desire to avoid yet another phone app and have something smart. These cost only a tiny bit more than a traditional timer clock. Setup/Connection Is Simple - Use the App These small smart plugs are pretty easy to setup and the app completely walks you through the process. If you have a Guest home WiFi network and put these onto it you may have to juggle a bit. The device on which you run the app to setup will need to connect to the same network/SSID as you put the devices on. In my case that meant manually ensuring the phone I was using for setup connecting to my guest network temporarily, given its setup to connect by default to my may home network. Recommendation: Setup a guest network if you dont have one to keep the smart devices isolated from your computers and phones and more important stuff on your home network. That way if a smart device, camera or whatever gets hacked, they are not on your network where you have your computers and smart phones and anything else like NAS storage. Somewhat protected. Scheduling Events - Initially Confused but Powerful Options Once setup was complete I did confuse myself setting up a schedule in the app. I expected the schedule to include both an on and off time in a single scheduled event - thats not how it works. You create a schedule for individual on and off events. I did really like the option to use sunrise or sunset as an event time. Given I am using these for lamps having an on setting for say 20 mins before sunset, allows for energy efficiency as the smart plugs adjust for the sunset time each day this changes. In my case then, lamps come on when needed, based on the sunset time, and not at some fixed time. Overall Good value and easy to setup and use. I bought 2 more! This way I have 3 less things to change for DST and they turn on lamps when it gets dark based on the ever adjusting sunset time.

> 3 dayDont have any overhead lights in my bedrooms so I have a couple of those standalone lamps, added this smart plug so I could be in bed and not have to walk across the room in complete darkness. Added plus is that I can set a schedule for the lights so my early 4am wakeups are just a little less painful when I have the lights turning on for me to help me wake up.

> 3 dayFinally getting on the smart home stuff, after resisting for a long time. I hate how fragmented all of it is and that there are separate apps for every brands stuff. I dont want to use a bunch of different apps, and you never know how long companies will support these things. Lifespans of LED bulbs are very long, and plugs like this could last decades. But, if the company stops supporting them theyll become paperweights. However, I have a set a JBL LSR305mkII studio monitors I use on my desk for guitar-playing, music recording, and general listening. These have switches on the back. With these plugs I can control them without having to reach behind and thats great! Because they also make affordable bulbs I was able to add those to my network without the need for a separate app. The app works pretty well, too. Others have confirmed that these will work without contacting TP-Links servers, including blocking traffic to them over the internet after you set them up. So, that means there may be potential to keep using them after TP-Link drops support in favor of newer devices in the future. The setup could be confusing if youre not very tech savvy. If you use any kind of VPN on your phone, it might not work. I had to disable mine to do the setup. Afterward, I could re-enable the VPN and use it without issue. At one point in the setup you need to connect to temporary wifi network broadcast by the bulb, this isnt the clearest in the directions. The only negative I can see here is that TP-Link hasnt come out and said theyll support Matter once thats released. However, it should be doable since these use 2.4ghz wifi.

> 3 dayVery easy to set up. I use it for a lamp that has the switch in the middle of the cord which is under my couch. This makes it considerably easier rather than bending around like some kind of ventriloquist.

> 3 dayGreat plugs at a good price. I basically use these around the house to automatically turn off appliances at night and then turn them back on in the morning.

> 3 dayWhile you can find ‘cheaper’ or ‘smaller’ smart plugs you must remember that half the beauty of it is if it & its company / app / features are, well, smart. It’s pointless to get a cheaper or smaller one just to end up constantly stressed from set-up trials to its apps functionality. This one is affordable AND the company is reliable in the quality of there products which is why I give this 4.5 Stars because it is one of the best smart plugs out there for this good of a price ( I’ll get to why not 5 in a moment ) For example as some others have said, with We-Mo you had to scan the plugs to use them which is extremely difficult when something is plugged in behind furniture or in my case ( as I am 5’1 … and a quarter - hey every little bit counts ! ) but Kasa was easy to set up and even easier to use ! I love that it has the sense feature - that is a HUGE plus for this price and this kind of solid company. As is the ability to set an an On as well as an Off timer in case you forget, and you can set it in a few different ways such as with the sun rise or set and with a set schedule on the app. Works seamlessly. Only issue is what others have sad about the reality of it’s energy saving power and how what it actually uses being way more than what it claims. But overall like I said at the start, it is worth paying a few extra dollars to not have your blood pressure and sanity tested by more difficult and time consuming ( ironic as they are suppose to be time and energy- both it’s and my own energy saving ) products when this Kasa one is a huge jump in quality and reliability. So go for it !

> 3 dayI bought these on a whim- I wasn’t completely sure how well they would work, but a friend recommended them. When they arrived it took me about 15 minutes to set up the first one, and maybe 5 minutes for the second one. They work great. I have some lamps attached to them, and it’s nice to be able to turn them on or off like night lights. It’s also nice to be able to turn lights on from the car when I know my hands will be full when I come home. The price is very affordable, and the app is easy to use. (I only use the app- I don’t have it hooked up to Alexa or anything like that.)
