> 24 hourI know that there are less expensive 3rd party alternatives, but Ive simply had too many problems with them. These things last for years (the one that I am replacing has lasted for 10 years), and if the new genuine part can last just as long, I dont really care for the price difference. I would rather do this once every 10 years. That said, I bought mine at a local big box store. Certainly, ordering from Amazon would have been easier, especially with the Prime membership, but I didnt need 2. And if I need to replace it again in 10 years, the chances are, I wouldnt know where I stored it and/or it might have even dried out. Besides, buying 2 didnt provide any cost savings either. 1 retail package from the local big box store was almost exactly 1/2 of what Amazon sells for 2 packages. Just buy 1 when you need it. Replacing it was super simple, 5 min job. One tip that I would offer is to have an old toothbrush (or any small brush for that matter) to scrape off the mating surfaces clean. As you can see in the picture, the old one completely disintegrated, and the residual pieces were stuck on the mating surfaces. The old toothbrush did a good job at removing them and keeping the mating surfaces clean for the new seal. Good luck.

> 24 hourI waited a few weeks before reviewing this OEM replacement washer. The installation took all of five minutes, with most of that time used detaching the chain from the sleeve. The washer fits perfectly and the material appears to be an improvement over the original so hopefully will last longer than the three years the original did. This was an easy DIY ending a noisy, water wasting situation. Absolutely no plumber required.

> 24 hourMy toilet stopped doing a complete flush and the Kohler cylinder would drop back too quickly. Surprisingly, this fixed the issue. they seem to be good quality and it took no time to install. I did not disconnect the chain, simply twisted the center part and pulled up. Replaced the ring and re-seated the unit.

> 24 hourI had the older red type seal that shipped with my Kohler toilet about 15-17 years ago and it eventually became so worn down it showed variance in certain areas that made it no longer flat and snug around the canister and I would notice my tank is constantly pouring water down the bowl, attempting to refill. I didnt go with a cheaper or alternative part because I know this seal is guaranteed to work. It will have the appropriate thickness, and diameter. I dont know how these new yellow silicone based seals will last over time or how they will change (ex. shrink or expand) but I know they are supposed to be better and specifically replace the red seals. What I made sure to do is properly remove the chain from the canister and get it out with a quarter turn so I can properly clean it. I used isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip to clean the groove on the canister that the seal will need to fit into, as well as the base that makes contact with the lower part in the tank. I then used a waterproof silicone grease (Danco 88693) that I spread on the entire seal lightly. This is probably not required but it does help provide an extra layer of protection on the seal from contaminants. This grease is typically used on o-rings in faucets and other seals on plumbing fixtures. There are 2 seals provided in separate packaging so one can serve as a great backup.
