Greater than one weekWe had a few 20 floor fans made by another company that were black plastic and worked wonderfully. Three speeds on those and there were definite differences in those speeds. They operated extremely quietly. However, our children have managed to borrow them to get them thru hot spells and somehow they have never seen our house again. :-) Lasko was highly recommended so we tried this model to see how it compared. It does deliver huge volumes of air and pushes it at high speeds, cooling areas quickly. But, as some reviews pointed out, it is very, very noisy. The fan speeds of low, medium and high are all very strong air pushers, and I think the speed of the blades causes a loud, constant whoosh sound. At times the noise, even at the lowest setting turns into a sharp whine. Not a fan you would want during a dinner meal or while watching TV unless you dont mind turning the volume up to high. I put it next to my bed one evening when the air conditioner was off and tilted it up so it would blow on me. I love to be cool during sleep. Before I got into bed, I turned it on. First it blew off the bedspread and then the sheet! Very powerful! But, by tucking my covers under me, I got a beautiful, cool nights rest. It has other advantages as well that compensate for the noisiness. A hard rain and wind storm blew rain into our 24 x 24 garage, flooding it to well over an inch deep in every area. After pushing most of the water out of the garage with squeegee brooms once the storm ended, I set the fan to blow the floor in order to dry it completely. It was fantastic! In a very few hours the entire floor was completely dry, including some of the small puddles that had been left after sweeping. All in all, a great fan. For living areas where noise is a concern, another model would be better suited.

Greater than one weekVery strong, but makes a noise that varies in db/frequency on 2 out of the settings, so it becomes and extreme nuisance. I ordered two times to see if it was the unit or model, and both had the same problem

> 3 dayIn Western Washington, most residential buildings, including my own, do not include air conditioning of any sort. So I needed a fan that could circulate air throughout an entire home. The Lasko 2265QM does that job well for the most part. Positioned properly, it can blow in cool air from shaded areas outside, and provide a pleasant breeze pretty much anywhere. When the temperature gets especially high, sitting in front of the fan provides instant and persistent relief. The three speed settings can be described as high, higher and hurricane. There simply isnt a lot of nuance. Even on the lowest setting, this fan can cycle all the air in a typical bedroom within a minute. Other reviews have commented on the volume of the fan. They are all correct, and you should heed their warnings. I initially shrugged them off, but after getting the fan, I really was surprised by how loud it could be. At full speed, the Lasko 2265QM will sound not unlike a small propeller driven aircraft at idle throttle. The lower settings do little to reduce the noise, and mostly just change the pitch of sound. The overall construction of the fan is decent. Attaching the stand and control box was trivial and didnt require much effort. The front grill can be removed, but there should be no reason to do this. The control box is the only thing that feels like it was cheaply made. But its good enough that it shouldnt be an issue throughout the useful life of the fan. The motor is housed within a plastic shroud, although it appears that under the shroud is a metal casing for the motor itself. I noticed that the plastic motor shroud can get hot during sustained operation. Not to the point where Im concerned it could catch fire. But hot enough for me to be weary of touching it when the fan has been on for awhile. If placed on an uneven surface, the force of the air being blown can cause the fan to topple. It would be nice if the stand had a bit more depth, but this is only problematic if the fan is placed on a soft or uneven surfaces. I get a lot of use out of this fan, but I prefer to only use for about an hour at a time, especially at night when I have the chance to circulate cool air into my room. Anything longer than an hour though, and I prefer to use a quieter fan. Pros: - Can quickly circulate the air in a room - Can provide modest ventilation for a home - Sturdy construction - Easy assembly - Works as advertised Cons: - It really is loud. - Cheap control box - Motor shroud can get hot - Stand my not work well on soft/uneven surfaces - Little difference between speed settings

> 3 day(Update July 2019... Price of this fan has dropped $10 in the last year, making this fan only $15 more expensive than the B-air Firtana to which I compare it below. Both fans are still working for me. But the B-air Firtana has eleven percent 1-star reviews, most because of the fan quickly dying whereas this Lasko has only three percent one-star reviews. At just a $15 difference, Id buy the Lasko today. The reviews are four times more negative for the B-air, though, again, both are still working for me.) This fan shows up alongside the B-air Firtana-20X when you search for 20-inch fans on Amazon. They look fairly similar, so why does this fan cost so much more--$62 vs $39 for the B-air? Having recently bought one of each, here are my observations. Similarities: 1. Dimensions, pivoting ability, weight. They seem very similarly constructed initially. 2. Apparent effectiveness in moving air. Both have three speeds, both seem to put out air well. If anything, in a subjective test the B-air seems a bit more powerful. But again, this was subjective... 3. Construction. Both have metal shrouds, metal blades, rubber shock absorbers connecting fan to stand to keep vibration down and grounded three-prong plugs at the end of substantial cords. Differences which might explain the difference in price: 1. The Lasko has a front-mounted speed control. The B-air has its speed control mounted directly on the motor and can only be controlled from the back. 2. The Lasko comes with a substantial wall mounting plate. The B-air says it can be mounted on the wall, but doesnt include a fixture for doing so. Its up to you to find the hardware for hanging the B-air. Also, the Laskos front-mounted switch makes controlling it when wall-mounted more convenient. 3. The Laskos motor is enclosed in a plastic shield at the back while the B-air exposes the metal back of its motor. Is a shield better? I dont know. One reviewer complains about hair becoming sucked into the B-airs motor. Perhaps a shield would help with this. Yet a shield is an added expense, and I would think Lasko wouldnt put one over the back of their motor if there werent some utility in doing so. 4. The Lasko has hinged connectors for mating the two halves of the fan shroud, making it an easy tool-less job to remove the shroud and clean the blades. The B-air has screws attaching the two halves of the shroud over the blade. Conclusion: Its a crap shoot. But the B-air has a surprising number of one-star reviews which claim the fan died within months of purchase--and a number of reviewers also claim that the B-air is a generic fan sold under many names. Take the risk on the B-air and you might be happy you did. If you want to hang your fan from a wall, get the Lasko. Perhaps in a year I will know more about their reliability. Right now its hard to judge, and the Lasko is a great deal more expensive. I say go with the B-air, but if it breaks Ill be back with an update.

> 3 dayYou here the noise and you CERTAINLY FEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL the wind......this thing moves A TON of air. it comes with a wall mounting bracket so after having it on my bedroom floor for a while i mounted it inline with my bed on the wall facing me as i sleep.....oh this thing is incredible, had it for several months now. Ive used this thing for A/C during this past hot summer when weve had guests over to help get the A/C down my long hallway, used it outside, used it with our tiki torches when wed have our cousins over in the summer and it was crazy hot, got the string tiki soot stuff all over the blades, case, motor, so after a while of that i took off the front cover, very easy, just move the series of pivot clips over and the one little machine screw on the bottom, cleaned it off....all that crap that got all over it and in the motor all those months ago....did absolutely nothing to it, just as fast, just as powerful, just as awesome. the cord that has is probably a 5ft. maybe a 6ft cord, it could be a foot longer i think, but then again i dont think people typically would be using this thing for as much stuff as i do. One time it rained and i forgot to put my soft top up on my jeep and yeah it was very bad, 1999 jeep wrangler sahara got about 2in of water in the front before i woke up and realized it was rainy, somebody told me it wasnt supposed to the night before so i didnt worry, so i got out drove my jeep and parked her under the carport vaccumed up as water as was possible with our shop vac, which was A LOT btw, and lifted up all the carpeting and arranged the seats so that i could put this fan in the little trunk area of the jeep and just ran that fan outside there to help dry out my jeep for over 24hours straight through, no stopping, and my jeep eventually dried up, no damage done to it so far, that was a couple months ago, no rust, my aftermarket radio works fine, all electronics and switches work fine, steering fine, seats fine, no mold anywhere, had i not told anyone, no one ever wouldve have known the inside of my jeep got wet, this fan did, does, and seems that it will do a VERY good job for a VERY long time!!!! great great fan...
