I like the blocks. The scanner that tells you whats on the block is pretty cool. I dont understand why the number blocks are two sided with different numbers on both sides!! If youre using these to learn numbers, you should have the numbers on one side and something to reinforce the number on the other. (One side should have 10 and the other should have 10 nails. There are 15 double-sided blocks so it would have been so easy to have 1 to 10 on ten blocks instead of five double-sided blocks. It makes it so much harder to use as a toy to help teach numbers. If you ask your child to find the 8, its a lot harder if your kid has to turn blocks around to find the eight. You cant put 1-10 in order. Its just awkward and weird since you have 15 interactive blocks! I want to use this for building, but I want to use it for learning too. It gets so close, but its marred by a glaring defect. Im still giving it three stars because they are nice blocks. I just dont really suggest it, so maybe I should be giving it two stars.

This kit is designed for children 18 months+, but despite that fact, I have it in my Kindergarten classroom full of English Learners. The kit comes already functioning with batteries, which is always a HUGE win, and has tons of color, number and shape words for children to learn! The students were disappointed when they thought it was a ‘baby’ toy, but as soon as I opened the package and put the pieces in with the other Legos, they were an IMMEDIATE hit! Most of my students come from other countries and this is their first exposure to English, so they had SO MUCH FUN putting the pieces into the talking base and learning what the name of the numbers and colors are on the smaller pieces! My one comment would be that the volume does not turn up very high, which sometimes makes it challenging to hear it.

This is a really great engaging toy that my son (almost 3) has had so much fun with already. The pieces are similar to your basic large building block. The base of the truck has 4 wheels and just a tray for them to build on, so they can use their creativity to make it any type of vehicle: truck, car, etc. The instructions have pictures on how to build it into a crane truck. The red smart star receiver block is removable as well (so you can place it anywhere on the base) and the smallest blocks can be entered in and the truck will read what is on the block. Most of the blocks have construction-related pictures (tools, measuring tape, nails, construction cone, etc.) which my kiddo loved. We can learn together, as I can show him the block and ask what it is and he can put the block in to see if hes right. The sounds are engaging - a few songs. He LOVES that it says WA-HOO! repeatedly and has started saying it all the time which is cute. As a downside, he LOVES putting the blocks in and out, but it a bit tricky for him to get them out. You have to stick your finger in the bottom lip to pull them out. His younger sister (almost 2) cant really get them out by herself and gets frustrated. So I would keep that in mind if youre shopping for a younger toddler. Overall this toy has been a big hit and is a favorite. I only wish (and DESPERATELY wish) it came with some sort of storage for the blocks, especially considering these blocks are not interchangeable with the widely available mega blocks.

This is an excellent learning toy and is very versatile in what can be built. It has several phrases and can identify letters, numbers, and pictures of various blocks. The sound can be adjusted to a high or low setting and it isnt a toy that has become annoying at all. Great for building vocabulary, both literally and figuratively. Also uses problem solving skills and role playing. At the time of this review the retail price was around $25 which is reasonable for the quality.

This is a great playset for littles who love tech toys and building. Great start into education in engineering! The smart blocks are really cool, with so many educational but fun opportunities.
