So this thing half worked, thats why I am giving it 2 stars. Cons- I will start with the cons. I had 10 sets of net lights that had sections that didnt work. I plugged in the unit and tried the gun part to find the section that didnt work. Well, it didnt work, anywhere, at all. I tried it on multiple parts that worked and didnt work, and I got nothing. I wasnt sure if I was doing it wrong, so I watched YouTube videos, yup I was doing it right. I also tried a strand of LEDs (not net lights) that were all working and nope, still didnt work. So that was a HUGE letdown. Pros- Even though the gun didnt work, I was happy the little tool at the end to remove the lights worked great. The light tester part also worked great too. Tips- Of the 10 light sets that had sections missing, I marked those areas and removed all the non working lights one by one, and I found the bad lights and was able to replace them. When using net lights, all 10 sets had the bad bulb on the unlit strand on the left or the right. For example, if you have 4 sections missing, the bad light was either in the row on the left or on the right. While taking out each light and testing it was NOT what I had in mind, this tool somewhat helped check the bad bulbs. Would I spend $25 again for this, absolutely not. However if you have a bunch of time to waste like I did, this did eventually get the job done. Good luck!!!

Just repaired 8 strings of GE lights that I thought were goners. Some strings had a bad section, some strings only had a short good section. Looked like a nightmare, but wifey said, Lets at least try that tool. Fair enough. Plug a set into an outlet. Mark the start point and end point of the section that wont light. Unplug from wall and plug into the tool. Now, lets say you identified a dark section of 30 lights. Go to the 15th light and squeeze the tester on the wire to that light. In most cases, either lights 1-15 will light, or lights 16 through 30 will light. Lets say lights 1-15 light up. Excellent. Now you KNOW that your naughty LED is hiding among lights 16-30. Time to test again. Where? Split the difference: which in this hypothetical scenario would be around light 23. Squeeze the tester on the wire going into light 23 and... the lights before it or the lights after it will light up! Aha. So your naughty light is hiding among the dark lights... and all you need to do is keep narrowing it down until you hit it. Sometimes you find it quickly, sometimes it takes a little longer. Some of the strings I fixed had 4 or 5 bad lights - which meant doing this process several times, each time on a different section. But I look at it this way: $30 for a tool that just saved me 8x$20=$160 worth of lights. NOTE!! What does a GOOD light look like vs a BAD light? The bad bulb often (not always) has a bad wire on it. To help give you and idea what I mean, take a look at the pictures: One of the wires has burned off of the bad LED. Compare that to the good LED in the other picture: two wires, both intact. Every once in a while (1 out of 15 in my case) you will find a bad LED that looks perfectly good. Fortunately, the tool has a little socket on it so you can test good looking bulbs.

II have used this company incandescent light string repair tool in the past with mixed results and to put it mildly I was very skeptical if this would work. My first repair was to a 70 LED/24 foot outside string that was wrapped on a tree but in 10 minutes it was fixed. I was very lucky on this string as LEDs that out were close to the plug on this mounted string. The second set fixed was an unmounted 92 LED/32 foot string and took less than two minutes to repair. With the written instructions and online video you cannot go wrong. The lessons I learned are: -Unmounted lights are easier to repair. The tester comes attached to a 3 foot cord limiting the length the tester can be used. This is only a minor issue and limited to installed lights. It easily found the one broken LED on the 32 foot unmounted string. -Be sure the wire is correctly positioned in the tester before pulling the trigger. It is very easy to incorrectly position/select the wire causing you to repeat the procedure. Although this was identified by another reviewer I still managed to do it. -After correctly positioning the tester on the wire and pulling the trigger you have to allow enough time for the LEDs to light on longer strings. -Strings with multiple failures take some extra thought, time and require a little more effort. Initially you will get inconsistent results but if you decrease the number of LEDs tested and just work from one end of the string it works. . Bottom line this tester is easy to use, does its job and I would buy it again. I do share the same concerns with reviewer MBR as to fixing or replacing multiple failure strings. My multiple string LED failures were only one year old am questioning the quality of these strings. The common issues for the failures were almost 90 % involving the copper wires where it was bent to be inserted into the LED holder. Note: The write up said it came with 3 1.5-volt batteries are included, In reality it has a 9 volt battery

At first it was uh-oh...then Wow - I repaired all 4 sets of string lights within 15 minutes. All sets were identical with identical symptoms, that is half the string didnt light. My first string, after following the instructions, I placed the tool in the midsection of the failed half and pulled the trigger. Per the instructions, one side should light while the other side remains dark...but in my case both ends lit up! After checking the instructions and their website, there was no mention of what to do in my case...I almost gave up until I decided to just check the fuses in the power plug and noticed one of the fuses was loose. After pushing the loose fuse back into place, the light worked! Second string: I checked the fuse but they looked fine. So I tried the tool, and this time I was able to follow the instructions as one side did not light, and was able to pinpoint the faulty LED. Actually the LED itself was fine, it was just loose from its socket. Third string: The fuses were fine, and just like the 2nd string I was able to pinpoint the loose LED. Fourth string: This time the faulty LED had its connectors twisted in such a way that it missed the connection to the socket contacts. Simply straightening out the LED wire connectors with my fingernail fixed it. The tool probably saved me at least 3 hours of frustrating work trying to check every bulb!

I go all out with Christmas decorating. My husband knows to leave the house when I’m decorating, as nothing pushes my buttons worse than lights that don’t work! I went to put my outdoor lights up a few weeks ago, and EVERY strand had a least 1 section that wouldn’t light. At $25 a strand, I decided to try the LED keeper and see if by any chance I could repair them. This morning, in less than 20 minutes, I have easily repaired 4 strands of lights! It’s easy to use, works great, and reduces my blood pressure!!!

I was easily able to repair 3 - 25 ft sections of dual color LED Christmas lights. If I had to replace these lights, it was going to cost me $58 each set with today’s inflated prices. This tool is well worth the money. I would recommend watching YouTube video on how to use this if you are a beginner like I was. I feel like a pro now!

I was ready to throw out 3 Sets of LED lights where half the string didn’t work. This device worked exactly as advertised and helped me figure out the burned out bulb in each string. Once the defective bulb was replaced, the lights worked perfectly. Be sure to follow along the instructional video. This is 100% worth the investment.

The PODs were designed to repair LEDs only. If you were to use a POD on an incandescent set, the set would not illuminate and remain dysfunctional. The PODs were not designed to illuminate but are necessary for the repair of the LED set in order to maintain the electrical balance. If a POD is not used and a dead bulb/socket remains, then more voltage is being forced upon the remaining functional bulbs.
