Before you buy this, just know its big. Its a little bit longer than an IKEA Billy bookcase is wide, so dont go thinking youre going to display it there. The details captured by its enormous size are remarkable. That Batmobile is nothing but curves, and through a really creative use of pieces and several building techniques that dance right on the cusp of being illegal, so is this Lego set. The downside of it being such a large set is that, at roughly double minifig scale, the three included minifigs cant ride in it. Well, they can, but theyre so much smaller than the seat, they look ridiculous. Batman cant even do that much. His cape, gloriously billowing, prevents him from doing anything but striking a heroic pose. Total build time was about 10 enjoyable hours, spread out over three days, 24 numbered bags, and 619 total steps. Most of the decorated pieces use stickers, though 7 have designs pre-printed on them. Youll wind up with a working steering system, machine guns that raise/lower using the rear jet turbine, and a sliding cockpit canopy. The instruction book might have benefitted from being spiral-bound, and suffers from a lack of contrast between black, dark gray, and brown pieces. Unless youre working under really bright lights, youre going to grab the wrong color piece a few times, and then have to backtrack later. Just accept it as part of the process. Its worth it.

The box was re-sealed with tape, bag #1 was open and to my total disappointment the Batman mini-figure was missing, and then even worst the manual and the stickers are missing as well, I want a full refund on this set. This is a rip-off.

Theres nothing quite like a LEGO Batmobile, ready to be built, to make the day AWESOME! I really love this LEGO set and its a lot of fun to build. Whats in the Box? First of all, this box has some heft. Its a nice large black box with great images of the set. Box opened, heres what we have: another smaller (relatively) box, plus a whole bunch of bags of LEGO . The smaller box is white and has a line drawing of the LEGO Batmobile on it. Within the smaller box are more bags of LEGO, an instruction manual, a sheet of 13 stickers, and a two tires. The bags inside the box are numbered 1-10 (one bag of each number) and one unnumbered bag. Outside the box are bags labeled 11-24, two more tires, and one unnumbered bag. In Bag 1, youll find a teal brick separator. Instruction Manual The set contains a hefty instruction manual in a single volume that measures just a little over half an inch thick. It has a black and white photo of the real 1989 Batmobile on the cover. The first 50 pages of the instruction manual are photos and drawings, and information about the model, the designers, and the design team, in English, French, and Spanish. The instructions themselves, in usual LEGO style, are all pictures and symbols. The last 4 pages of the manual is the listing of all of the pieces in the set - thats a lot of pieces! There are 435 pages in the instruction manual. Tips for Building with Multiple Bags of LEGO All told, there are 26 bags of LEGO. Within some of the bags are smaller bags, usually containing smaller parts. When you build it, the instructions will have you build using the pieces from the bags labeled 1, then once those bags are completed, continue with the pieces from the bags labeled 2, and so on. Ive found that its useful to open all of the bags for the particular number, but keep the pieces a little bit separate. The pieces arent randomly distributed between bags - instead, all of the pieces of a particular type may be in one or two bags, so if you dump the bags out and keep the pieces slightly separate, once youve found which pile your piece is in, you may find the rest of them in that same pile or in that one and one other. This is particularly useful in a set of this size. Lately for the smaller bags (especially the bags inside the main bags) Ive been using small plastic sandwich containers or trays with separated compartments to keep all of the pieces from mixing together on a small table. It also helps when you have a lot of pieces that like to roll! Minifigures The set contains 3 minifigures plus a display stand for them: Batman, The Joker, and Vicki Vale. Be sure to check out the fun fact about the making of the Batman Minifigure mentioned by Element Designer Niels Milan Pedersen on page 11 (English)/27 (French) / 43 (Spanish). The Batmobile has space for 2 minifigures to sit in the cockpit, which I think is cool for play, and also stretches the limits of minifigure scale, given its immense size. Display And Rebuilding Take note that the finished build is almost 2 feet long - 23 long, 8 wide, and 6 tall, so if you plan to display this beauty, plan ahead! It does come with a brick-build rotating display stand, so it is clearly meant to be displayed. If not, a tip for rebuilding it - sort the pieces by types - I usually do something along the lines of windows and doors, big plates, tiny pieces, color groups for pieces for which there are a reasonably large number of pieces, random for the pieces that dont really have a classification, and so on. I sort them in stackable trays so I can move them around as needed. Choose trays that are not patterned (easier to find pieces against a simple background) and not the same color as your more popular pieces (black pieces on black background are really hard to see). Tips for Building With Technic There is also a significant amount of Technic pieces used to build this set. If you havent built much with Technic before, its a lot of fun - and Ive found its also more challenging as well. When building with the Technic pieces, take your time and make sure you carefully follow the instructions - unlike with classic LEGO pieces, Technic pieces have more locking type mechanisms, making them a bit harder to take apart when you (inevitably) realize that youve made a mistake. And if your error was quite a ways back, which it sometimes is, you may end up taking apart a good portion of your build to get to the piece you need to fix. I dont want to scare you off, I just want to make sure you dont hit the same pitfalls as I do. Take note especially when working with Technic when the build is almost symmetrical - make sure you pay attention to where its not symmetrical, and dont get your build turned around the wrong direction. Working with Lots of Black Pieces Another point to note - many of the pieces are black (Im sure youve noticed the picture), although there are also many interior parts that are gray or even other colors. However, if you have difficulty seeing, it may be worth considering that the black pieces are more difficult to see in the instructions than other colors. I did notice that the instruction manual was especially readable, so you might get along perfectly just by ensuring you have adequate lighting for your workspace. Summary I really like this set. Its a great set for any LEGO and/or Batman or car fan. I love the larger sets, so anything with this many pieces is fantastic. This particular set is based on the Batmobile in the 1989 Batman movie, which set the bar for superhero movie cars from then on. If youre a KFOL (Kid Fan Of LEGO) or an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) this will be a lot of fun. Keep in mind that because of the large piece count and some potentially challenging build techniques, the age suggestions for this set is 16+. Ive found that children younger than this age who are especially skilled at LEGO can enjoy this also, and it can be a great activity for parent and child to share.

Stuck at home during COVID with countless nights of watching Netflix, Id been craving an escape and this was it. Im a middle-aged Batman fanatic and the 1989 Batmobile is my favorite of them all. This build is a beast; its large, heavy, reinforced, and wonderfully time-consuming. Its easy to notice that details were carefully crafted by the designers. All the dimensions are as they should be, which I know probably wasnt easy to design for such a sloping frame... so I appreciate that. It definitely feels and looks like a Batman brand, and not something designed to only pass as close to resembling the original design. In total, it was 2, 7-hour building sessions of pure uninterrupted bliss/therapy. During that time, with my concentration tongue sticking out for the majority of it, I thought of nothing else but concentrating on the surprisingly challenging 3,300 piece build. It was mentally stimulating and satisfied my need to create something. It took me 14 hours total, but I was on a roll so Id expect it to take a little longer if youre really going to relax with it. My speediness might have been directly related to my listening to the original Batman score through the first 4 or 5 bags. note: You should expect to have a small handful of tiny pieces left over. Im assuming that is to make up for the loss of some, for whatever reason. For example, I know that Vicki Vale doesnt need 2 cameras, etc. None of them were major pieces, so if you have some of those bigger ones left over, I suggest flipping backwards in the instructional book until you notice what you forgot. Pros: Its really the apex of Lego Batman builds. The build is challenging and the result is an impressive conversation piece. Cons: I finished it and now I want the Batwing.

This batmobile took several hours a night and a little over a week for my son in law to put together. Hes a Lego freak and having built many other complicated sets, he stated that this one had been the most challenging. All the pieces went together with precision and the finished result is just spectacular. Its pretty big,...about 2 feet or so long, and makes quite an impression. Although my 5-year-old grandson (who also loves Legos) could take no part in the assembly, he is really tickled to have it on display in his bedroom. Were waiting for him to get a little older to play with it because hell end up taking it apart and losing pieces. **I see no way to post photos on reviews anymore, otherwise Id post! ??
