My husband was thrilled with this. It took a few days to build working a little bit every day, but it was not terribly difficult, and he was impressed with the level of detail incorporated into the design.

Without question, I absolutely recommend this set. Whether you are a Voltron fan or not, it is outstanding. I bought this set directly from LEGO on launch day back in July, and Im extremely happy with it. Ive had it for over three months, and I still get a massive kick out of it. I got it during the week and built one lion every night after work, so it took almost a week to finish. If you sit down and do it, you could get it done in a day. Like most LEGO sets, at least the large ones, it comes with numbered bags that are referenced by the instruction books. Yes, books...plural. There are six instruction books, one for each of the five lions, and one for the final Voltron pieces and assembly. Pretty awesome, if you ask me. They really made it easy to put this together (like almost every set of theirs), and that separation of the build made it especially easy for me to do it one chunk at a time. The build starts with the yellow lion, which I have to say is my favorite one because of the coloring. The remaining lions have some differences, but it gets a little bit repetitive in the build in the first four lions. Thankfully, there are some differences, and the colors are all different. The fifth (black) lion is significantly different, as it forms the trunk and head of Voltron and is more massive and rigid than the other four that form the arms and legs. My very first impression, starting with the build of the yellow lion, was the vibrant colors. Im 46, and those colors brought me back to my very first LEGO sets as a kid. Lately, Ive been building some of the UCS Star Wars sets, and the Saturn IV (shown in the pictures for a size reference, as its a meter tall). Those sets are far less colorful. Very cool sets :), yes, but less colorful. This set just brought me back in time to those simpler years, and I love the colors. The four smaller lions have legs and feet that move pretty easily, as well as their tails and heads/mouths. They offer some good playability for younger LEGO fans. The black lion also plays well, but it has less moving parts because its meant to be more structural sound when put into Voltron form. As for the Voltron form - awesome. Just plain awesome. It looks fantastic, and at over 18 tall, its an impressive site. It is pretty rigid, though, so its not really for younger kids to play with. They can, but its more suited for being a display, IMO. Its one heck of a display, though! I admit - I hate stickers in LEGO sets. Luckily, this only had five stickers in the whole thing, and they are the numbers 1 through 5 that go on to the lions. You dont need to apply them, but Im a stickler for following instructions, and they werent difficult to apply. There are some nice videos of this set (and many LEGO sets) on YouTube if you want to check it out before buying. If you didnt know, you can become a LEGO VIP member on their website for free, and that sometimes gets you early access to new sets before the general public can buy them. Thats how I was able to order this a week before the official launch. Again, its totally free to become a VIP member. Ive always had great luck in ordering from LEGO in terms of prompt shipping and having everything show up in great condition. Ive also ordered several LEGO sets from Amazon and had great luck, too. In conclusion, I dont think that youll be disappointed in this set. Its not inexpensive (at least at the moment, with the original $180 price), but its under the typical 10 cents/piece price point, and its an awesome set. Highly, highly recommended.

Legos Ideas line has done it again. Voltron is great both as the robot, and as its component five lions. The instructions build the lions individually first. After all five lions are finished, the instructions take the builder step by step through the construction of the robot, complete with sword and shield. If youre a GenXer like me who grew up watching Voltron, you wont be disappointed., but you will probably have the cartoon running in your head the whole time youre putting Voltron together! Its expensive, but its worth it.

My 12-year-old had never completed such a huge Lego set, but this was a fantastic first huge set to give him. Its a really big box, definitely Big Christmas Present material, and theres a huge ooh-ahh factor of the idea of building a giant robot. The kit really breaks it down into meaningful, manageable chunks of work, so you build the lions separately, and my son did one lion per day when he was working on it. The huge joy came when he got to put them all together to make Voltron, which is a pretty impressive robot. Hes too young to know who Voltron is, but it really doesnt matter; theres not a lot of explanation needed for a giant transforming robot. If I have any criticism of the set, its that it doesnt have a lot of the cool little features you see in some of the other expensive Lego sets, like in the castles or similar sets, e.g. drawbridges, trap doors, hinged secret compartments and passageways, etc. Its just 5 lions, 4 of which are very similar to one another, and then you put them together. Theres also not a lot to do with the robot once you get it assembled, unlike a lot of the kits that have mini figures and action scenes. But if your main goal (like my sons) is to simply have the joy of following the directions and putting together a huge construction, you honestly cant go wrong with this one.

Still putting him together. Its allot of work but worth it. I almost dont want to finish it since itll just go up on a shelf and be on display. Very detailed. Edit: finished it. Looks awesome.
