LG UltraGear QHD 27-Inch Gaming Monitor 27GL850-B, Nano IPS 1ms (GtG) with HDR 10 Compatibility and NVIDIA G-SYNC, 144Hz, Black

This monitor is amazing. I did upgrade from a 10 year old Samsung 27 1080p 60hz so Im sure there are many monitors that would have been a decent upgrade. But this LG is just awesome. Maybe I just got lucky but I have ZERO dead/stuck pixels, and it has worked flawlessly since I hooked it up about a week ago. As usual in these types of purchases its easy to read all the horror stories and get too caught up in them. Dont worry and buy with no worries. I was on the fence about it until I saw it listed for $499. So heres the thing: I was checking this daily to see if/when it would be back in stock through Amazon. It was available through other sellers for around $630 -$999??!! for a while. Then one afternoon I checked and it was in stock, and was listed at $499. And I took a moment to decide if I should just do it...and I did. And by the time I pulled up my cart, it was sold out, and was back to $630. So, WAIT UNTIL IT IS $499. Its a fantastic monitor but not enough to get screwed out of $200+. My 1080ti runs everything I play currently at 1440p 144hz like a dream. PubG, the new Modern Warfare, Dying Light, Battlefield 3-1, GTA5, theyre all absolutely amazing at this res and refresh rate. If you have a card to push it, GET IT NOW! (as soon as its $499). EDIT: The only thing I forgot to gripe about is the length of the cables. Theyre waaayyy too short. The display port cable isnt even 6 long so unless youre putting the monitor directly on top of your tower youll probably need a longer one.

This is a review after 1 year of usage. Provided cable is still functional although when i first plugged it i was worried it would break at some point so be gentle with it. The monitor is 1440p 144hz so if you are buying this make sure you have a capable graphics card able to drive it. I personally have an RTX 3070 while it runs fine this card has 8GB of VRAM and it is starting to be affected negatively in some games. VRAM usage is quite high and I would say you need more than 8GB VRAM if you plan on playing latest triple A games and potentially more games in the future. Older games will function fine with this little VRAM. Nano IPS is a great panel from LG. The monitor does get a little warmer when gaming at higher refresh rate but doesnt seem to be negatively affected by it. Brightness is great and the included stand mount. Coming from cheaper monitors I never thought having such flexibility with a decent mount would be that nice. Out of the box the Windows UI display on this monitor is rather small personally it was too small for my liking so i increased the scale to 150% it enlarged everything on the screen. I did have trouble with doing this early stages of windows 11 and to be specific GTA V wasnt handling the the scaling that well but now its completely fixed. If you run into issues with specific case scenario you can easily revert back to the default scaling which is 100% Nothing wrong with it overall but if you are buying for an HDR experience turn away from this model. The implementation of this model is better never touched.

Nice monitor. Crisp, clean images. But a little too prone to finger smudges. And I feel like I rarely ever touch it!

The monitor is good. Good picture quality, good color accuracy, good viewing angles, good refresh rate, and its easy to configure, with two custom profiles and a number of built-in profile. The gray-to-gray (G2G) response time is pretty good (though not 1 ms as advertised unless you want lots of reverse ghosting artifacts). The stand is also quite good, and if you dont like it, you can use your own. I love this thing! But it could be better. There is only one DisplayPort input. Normally this wouldnt be a big deal, but the monitors refresh rate is capped at 100 Hz (1440p) or 120 Hz (1080p) when using HDMI if you have FreeSync on. At the very least, you can disable FreeSync on the HDMI ports and just have DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync on, since the variable refresh rate setting is per-input rather than per-profile. Also, the audio quality that comes through the built-in 3.5 mm headphone jack is awful. Everything sounds like extremely compressed MP3, and even someones with not-the-greatest-hearing like me could tell this. Many devices have built-in audio jacks (most computers, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), but some dont (PS5, DVD players, etc.) and rely on the HDMI audio. Either way, having to unplug and plug in things when switching inputs can be annoying. All-in-all, its a REALLY good monitor, but these caveats make it hard to recommend to just anyone. Of course, some of these caveats may not even apply to everyone. If you just have just one PC connected to it, you use DisplayPort, and you plug your speakers into the PC rather than the monitor, this monitor will easily be a 5/5 experience for you. Its a very high quality display, and LG did an great job with it. But if you have to use several devices, its a 3/5 experience.

While I think this is a beautiful monitor panel, with rich colors and great resolution, my problem with this monitor was that its not compatible with the highest settings of the Series X/S. I think that LG should update its firmware in these models. Let me explain. The highest settings you can run on Xbox are 120fps at 4k, yet there are only 2 reasonable, reputable screens you can buy out there as of February 2021 that allow 120fps at 4k with adaptive sync(because the Xbox uses AMD) via HDMI 2.1. Those are the 32 inch Samsung OLED TV and the Acer Predator X27, but most games arent fully synchronized for 4k/120fps yet and those 2 screens cost $1500 and $1300 dollars, respectfully. The market for 4k monitors at 120fps for HDMI 2.1/next gen consoles(not ones like the LG/Dell 4k monitors that only support it via displayport) is basically non-existent at the moment and will emerge over the next few years. Streamers/Youtubers have also tested games that claim to be 4k 120fps, and most fail to even get there. It will still be 3-4, maybe even 5 years before 4k 120fps gaming via HDMI 2.1 is truly commonplace and the price for 4k 120fps monitors drops. Therefore, most people buying the Xbox Series X/S(and I actually got one through Bestbuy) will be spending only around $500 dollars on a new monitor, like myself, to take full advantage of the 120fps at 1440p the Series X offers. The PS5 strangely doesnt support 1440p, so this only applies to potential Series X buyers. I prioritize framerate over resolution for competitive gaming, and 1440p still looks amazing. Yet, when you run a game at 120fps, you run the risk of screen tearing, which is when the screen flickers or lags. This happens when the consoles/PCs refresh rate is not in sync with the monitors refresh rate. To counter this, freesync was developed. It stabilizes and synchronizes the framerate from console to PC, eliminating screen tearing and allowing colors and the full graphics to load evenly. Freesync is known as adaptive sync for people who use AMD graphics cards and G-Sync for those using Nvidia graphics card. Some monitors might be both adaptive sync and G-sync compatible, if you see the green sticker in the corner of the monitor. Both the Xbox and PS5 use AMD cards and are programmed for adaptive sync. Yet, this monitor for some inexplicable reason, and the same goes for other LG monitors, only only support adaptive sync via HDMI 2.0(and this is important because the Xbox Series X/S dont have Displayport and no DP to HDMI 2.0 adapters for Xbox exist) up to 100fps. This is not ok for the Series X/S, because if you run a game at 120FPS at 1440p without adaptive sync, you will get screen tearing and your resolution will not be fully loaded. You cannot run at a game at 100fps on Xbox Series X/S either, because its simply locked at 60hz or 120hz. Therefore, this monitor is basically the equivalent of a 1440p 60hz monitor with adaptive sync for the Series X/S because it does not support adaptive sync at 120fps/1440p for HDMI 2.0 since Displayport adapters for HDMI dont exist for Xbox, and you will get screen tearing if you run the game at 120fps/1440p without adaptive sync. It does not make sense for LG to cap the adaptive sync HDMI 2.0 fps at 100, because the HP Omen 27i, Samsung G5, and the Dell S2721DGF both use the exact panel used for this LG monitor for their own 1440/144-165hz gaming monitors, yet those all support adaptive sync at 120fps for HDMI 2.0. Even more so, Acer, Asus, Viewsonic, Gigabyte, AOC, and Viotek all have 1440p 144-165hz monitors that support 120fps with adaptive sync for HDMI 2.0. To take this a step further, most of those companies I listed above, even the ones that use this exact LG panel, are moving on to making their own 4k 120fps monitors that support adaptive sync via HDMI 2.1. The fact that LG hasnt even made this monitor and others similar LG monitors compatible at 1440p 120fps with adaptive sync for HDMI 2.0, while others already have and are moving onto 4k 120fps for HDMI 2.1, is shocking to say the least. LG might be the only company that doesnt support 120fps with adaptive sync via HDMI 2.0 at 1440p. I truly wanted to love this monitor, but I couldnt because it doesnt support adaptive sync at 120fps. If youre paying $500 for a gaming monitor, it should support 120fps at 1440p with adaptive sync. I had to sadly end up returning this monitor, and I bought a HP Omen 27i instead at Bestbuy. I absolutely love the Omen and it can actually support up to 144fps via HDMI 2.0 at 1440p and 165hz for displayport with adaptive sync for both, even though the Xbox cant even go up to that fps, but my point still stands that LG capping adaptive sync support for 1440p at 100fps makes absolutely zero sense. Aside from myself, theres no way Im not the only Series X owner looking for the 1440p monitor that can run at 120fps with support for HDMI 2.0 with adaptive sync, so people realizing or learning that this monitor cannot do 120fps at 1440p via HDMI 2.0 with adaptive sync through word of mouth, Youtube, and Reddit threads will probably end up costing LG a few thousand potential customers and lots of money because they didnt upgrade their firmware to make it fully compatible with the Series X/S. LG needs to fix this issue pronto. I dont see why they didnt make the monitor capable of 120fps with adaptive sync enabled for HDMI 2.0 in the first place, considering they likely knew that these were the supported specs coming out for the Series X/S almost 2 years in advance. It makes no logical or economic sense for them to do this, especially when other gaming monitors support it.

Ive spent the past five weeks trying to find a monitor these days that doesnt suffer inherent defects such as clouding and light bleeding or dead pixels. After buying 3 HP 24ih FHD Monitors, 5 Samsung 24 QHD Monitors, and one ASUS TUF 27 QHD Monitor (all of which suffer significant light bleed, clouding or dead pixels), I settled on this LG Monitor. I am so happy that all the others are going back. The monitor itself is beautiful and the quality is great. After all the monitors I tried, this was the only one that didnt have significant light bleeding and no clouding that I can see. The colors are great, the brightness is good, the refresh speed is nice and the setup was easy. In fact its so good that I bought 4 more of these monitors to replace my triple monitor setup, and one for the Mrs. as her second monitor. This screen is not 100% perfect, but compared to the others I had bought, its near-perfect by comparison and Im just going to settle on this. The only issue is the bottom left corner has slightly more light bleeding than the other corners, mostly noticeable when watching a movie or viewing something dark (and even then you would need to focus on it), but its not as bad as the other monitors, and it feels more like an angle thing rather than a defect like clouding. I would totally recommend if youre looking for a quality monitor at a reasonable price.

I wish it had built in speakers but besides that I love it. Bring it bright light doesn’t make it hard to see and the screen itself is beautiful

About 6 or 7 years ago (might not be exact to be honest), I purchased one of Acers 1st 144hz, 2k, IPS gaming monitors the first or one of the first of Acers Predator line. The Acer monitor has been great, but lately Ive been craving something a little more for the monitor space, since its been quite a while since ive had this monitor (actually a pretty good monitor even for todays standards). I decided to go with LGs 850b Nano IPS monitor since i really enjoyed a new LG Nano Cell TV I just purchased recently. Once I turned on the monitor, calibrated, and turned on the correct settings I was blown away by the noticeable difference from my previous 2k, IPS, 144hz monitor. Theres a distinct characteristic I like about Nano cell displays in particular, where the colors are more vivid than other displays. The images also appear to be more smooth than my previous display although it is running at the same 144hz. I can easily see this monitor being one of the best for the price point although I havent tested other monitors. The display that I got came with no issues, no dead pixels, and the backlight bleed does not bother me much if at all during normal use. With the recent Nano cell TV I purchased, and this monitor, LG has truly one my heart over for their display technologies. I have a Samsung QLED TV as well, and the Nano cell TV (which was way cheaper) was a much better deal and better quality. LG has done a spectacular job in the creation of this display and their recent line of TVs and offer a competitive price for the quality. A+

I have about 139 hours on this monitor as of now. The first 20 were great. No issues. Really happy with it as its a MASSIVE step up from my 4k TVs latency/framerate. I built a desk specifically for gaming and it really has helped having a very fast monitor like this. But after 20 hours It started flicking black randomly. I have no idea what is causing it, its just totally random. It might flicker one day, or it might not flicker for two days. I suspect it might be G-SYNC but hard to tell if its that or the monitor. When it does flicker it puts my games in the background which could get me killed in certain games as it not only lowers the framerate but screws with the window. Im in the process of trying a different Display port cable, then DDU and driver reinstall. If its this monitor then Its getting 1 star and I cant return it. I have to go though a headache of a RMA and I dont expect that to go smoothly. Ill try to update this in the next month or two.

I just started using it and I love it. It has different configurations according to the game you will play and also for daily use. The response time and refresh rate are excellent combined with the DAS feature LG monitors have.
