MFJ-270 Lightning Arrester DC-1GHz, UHF-F/F 400W by MFJ

This is a heavy-duty gas-discharge lightning/static arrestor. It is heavy and of solid contruction. I liked the good-sized ground strap Philips screw. This arrestor appears to be at least as herky as my Alpha-Delta ones. HIGHLY Recommended.

The name of the product may be overly ambitious. It probably cant stop a lightning strike from doing damage. It can, however, drain off the high impulse voltages produced by nearby lightning. It should be placed close to a ground rod, connected to the rod by heavy-gauge copper wire. Cut the coax and put a PL-259 connector on each side. Screw them onto the SO-239s on the lightning arrestor. Installation finished. You can feel a little more comfortable, but still remove the antenna cable from the radio during thunderstorms.
