I bought this to dye a white bra (since a particular style I wanted was only available in white in my size). I used two bottles of dye and let it soak overnight. The dye took perfectly on the straps and lace parts of the bra. The fabric of the cups, however, rinsed back out to a light gray before the water finally ran clear. Luckily because theres decorative lace over the cups it turned out to be a really nice looking effect, but its absolutely true that different fabrics take to the dye very differently.

Using this product was the first time dying my clothing. I will not lie reading the requirements and guidelines are useful and helpful. I went in without gloves, ended with dyed skin. Overall the product was great, it did was it was intended to do, and it was easy to rinse off.

Bought this to dye a few items. Wanted to make a blue wool jacket black, along with a pair of wool/cotton blend pants and a cotton shirt. Followed the instructions to the LETTER, I even soaked the three items for over an hour. The jacket went from navy blue to midnight blue (at best). The gray pants just darkened to a charcoal color, and the shirt is now a weird dark purple. Not satisfied at all. Even more aggravated that I spent 16 bucks to stain up my hands and have to clean up dye water. Absolute garbage. Youll have better luck using hairdye or spray paint on your clothes than to use this (what I can assume is) expensive food coloring.

Great deal. I use black dye a lot, but finding the liquid in stock in my city can be frustrating. I will be buying online from now on.

I figured that after white fabric, yellow must be an easy color to cover up with black dye. I followed the instructions on the RIT website to the t and additionally I more than doubled the amount of dye they recommend using. My yellow fabric is now a lovely military olive green. That doesnt really work for a black and white color scheme. The dye will dye your skin better than it will fabric. I shouldnt have wasted my money on dye and just went straight to buying black fabric.

I decided to give this a try since I have a pair of 100% cotton light yellow sweat pants that I dont wear it much anymore. I prefer a pair of dark color sweat pants. The light yellow pants is hard to pair with the rest of my clothes and shoes. What I did: 1. soak the pants in the hot water. 2. add in 1 bottle of Rit Liquid Fabric Dye Black 8 Ounces. 3. stir it up every 4 hours. 4. waited for 24 hours, yes, I soaked it for 24 hours. 5. added in some Rit Dye RIT COLORSTAY, stir, wait for 30 mins 6. wash it with warm water in the washer twice. The result. Dark blue/purple ish color. Its not black, if you put it right next to your pure black clothes you will see it. I am not disappointed with the result... unless it keeps bleeding colors, which I will find out later. My thoughts: 1. if you want the pure black color, this wont do it. if you want a very dark purple color, this might do the trick. 2. make sure you stir it really good, its easy to miss some spots. 3. Rit Dye RIT COLORSTAY didnt really help. =========================================== Update 11/25/2022 (i didnt change my old review, so you can see how much difference in my comments) During thanksgiving, I decided to give it a second dye since I bought 3 bottles of black dye and almost have 1 1/2 bottle left from the last time. I dyed the Sweatpants from the last time and another t shirt (greenish Sage color) 100% cotton. The same process like last time, but this time I added Rit Dye RIT COLORSTAY earlier. 1. soak the pants in the hot water. 2. add in 1 1/2 bottle of Rit Liquid Fabric Dye Black 8 Ounces. 3. stir it up every 4 hours. 4. added in some Rit Dye RIT COLORSTAY at 8 hours mark 5. waited for 24 hours 6. wash it with warm water in the washer twice. Now check the second picture I uploaded. The hoodie that I held with my hand is a pure black hoodie. You can see the sweatpants and new Tshirt are definitely in the black category now. The sweatpants is black color compare to last time the purple color. I am very happy with the result. Will buy 3 more bottle to dye my other clothes. =============== update again The tshirt and sweatpants are bleeding color like crazy. I don t think the color will last long.
