> 3 dayThe Matrix Bio Media is a product I found to keep my fish tank optimal at all times. I found great value in this product price wise. I will be buying this again.

> 3 dayWhile it did seem a bit dusty at first, Ive had no problem with it clouding up the aquarium at all. Ive get to do a filter change since receiving it, but the water is still beautifully clear after over a month of running. Theyre wonderfully absorbent and have plenty of surface area. I will remind you that it is one liter, which is half of a two liter bottle of soda. The size took me by surprise, but that was my own mistake. One bottle filled one of the chambers in my 175 gallon canister filter.

Greater than one weekI bought this when I got my Eheim canister filter. The 1 liter bottle is the exact amount that I needed. Before I started using this stuff, I had minor issues with ammonia build up even with the bio sponges. Two weeks after I had this in my system, my ammonia and nitrites are at 0ppm and my plants pull out the rest of the nitrates with no problems. This stuff doesnt need to be replaced ever, so one bottle is all you need. Because this stuff holds onto all the good bacteria, you can feel free to replace all the other filter pads and such in your system without feeling guilty. Great stuff.

> 3 dayI will only purchase 2 bio medias. This is one of them. I typically use this first, right after mechanical filtration. I do this because this pumice will overlap and force water to change paths. It provides the very last bit of slight mechanical filtration on the off chance something gets through. Because this is natural stone, it will have many I perfections and he highly inconsistent. That is ok by me because it has been a reliable performer as a bio media and final mechanical protectant for the last trays of Biohome, which has more porosity and uniformity. Between the 2 medias my tanks have thrived. Id be torn to pick just 1 as they have a few exclusive beneficial traits.

Greater than one weekI just got my order in , I had read these come pretty dirty but man I dont know how many times you neeed to rinse them but I must have gone through 50 gallons of water to get them relatively clean, Seems like the agitation of moving them around to rinse them actually cause the stones to grind up creating more dust. I got them in my filter now. Thankfully didnt cloud up with any dust particles. When I soaked them in a bucket some actually floated. These are definitely super porous and am optimistic they will help improve my biofilter.

> 3 dayThis is in fact large enough to not need a media bag when used in a canister filter. With that being said I think it would be better to use a media bag to make it easier to take it out to lightly rinse if it gets too dirty, also will make it easier to reposition. This is a very good product, the bacteria grows rapidly on it and it is the only thing I use on my 120 gallon as far as bio media. I use 1 and a half times the amount suggested and all my parameters are perfect. I also use Purigen to remove organics from the water along with my protein skimmer. I also would recommend that when you put Matrix in you should pour some bio boosting bacteria on it to help kick start the growing process.

> 3 dayI have a 55 gallon freshwater tank with 34 fish. I have a fluval 306 cannister filter with included media. I do regular 30% water changes weekly and filter cleanings weekly. My water was pretty clear from the front of the tank but looked like a brownish tint from the side (Not Tannins). There were a few times that it was absolutely crystal clear from the side view so I knew it could be clear again! I read that dissolved organic materials need to be removed from the water through water changes or filtration media. I tried to do 2-30% water changes a week and still the brownish tint from the side. I read about 2 Seachem products - 1 Liter Matrix Bio Media and 100ml Purigen Bags. I called the company to get the low down on this stuff and apperantly it is supposed to add much more bacteria to filter and also clarity to water by removing dissolved organic materials. I did a 30% water change, cleaned my filter, left old biomedia in and added the new Matrix. I got 75% of the new Matrix Bio media to fit in the cannister. I will fit the rest in when the new media starts building bacteria. I also added the 2 Purigen Bags to the cannister. I went to bed and in the morning the water was crystal clear. Its been 3 days and still crystal clear-from the front and crystal clear from the side. I am not sure if it was the Matrix or the Purigen that made my water clear but for the cost I would recommend getting both! I will update this if I find that this is just a temporary fix.

Greater than one weekThe bio media was a good size. I did not need break it into any smaller pieces. I recommend rinsing before placing into aquarium, it can make water little cloudy without rinsing.
