When unpacking Im seeing lots of plastic. Hard cheap looking plastic. Not a great impression. Well have to see if it holds up to use. I wanted a vacuum for almost everything in my daily use. Floors and carpets, fabric furniture, baseboard and crown molding dusting along with drapes, and window shades. And able to reach under, around, between stuff. A canister vacuum would do all this, but I dont find them as ergonomic. You hold the wand in front and they tag along behind and always seem to be cumbersome. They can offer more suction and HEPA filtering. I think this Rocket stick vacuum is a better way to accomplish all this. Attached to the power head it can work like an upright. Detached it is one piece instead of two-pieces to use. It is lightweight and easy to store. Lots of little features seem well considered and implemented. The angling head works very well better than most Ive used. The LED lights really are useful. BTW, no one mentioned the LED light on the main head unit which illuminates out front enough to be quite helpful. The vacuum power is quite good. Not up to a big floor stander or the larger canister types, but pretty good. The power head is narrower than a big floor stander, but the trade off makes it easier to get under and around objects. Using just the vacuum section for hand held use is very ergonomic. The weight is close to your hand and not very much. The extension is enough you can easily reach anything up to 10 feet high. You can reach behind couches and other objects much easier than if you were carrying or pulling a canister behind you. I find a vacuum I can just grab and use in a jiffy gets used more than a bigger one which is a chore to pull out. On this front the Rocket is just the ticket made for this kind of use in mind. Well have to see if the plastic holds up or causes problems, so Ill leave it at 4 stars and amend in the future. Also as some complain when setup altogether you cant really just stand the vacuum up. Too top heavy. Youll end up having to lean it against something or lay it down. I dont find it too much of a bother.

Great suction. It’s almost like it’s self propelled.

    * I paid full price for this product. Im very demanding of my vacuums. I have 2 large high-shedding dogs and 2 cats, and I expect a vacuum to be able to handle all that comes with that. I had a Dyson when my house was wall-to-wall carpets, so my standards are high. Now my house is all hardwood and ceramic tile, which led me to this. This little Shark handles everything with flying colors: large amounts of pet hair, cat litter, dirt, dust, crumbs, and whatever else ends up on the floor courtesy of the critters. It cleans floors, corners and edges, steps, furniture, behind/under furniture, pet beds, drapes and curtains, and pretty much anything else that you would want to vacuum. The Sharks insane flexibility is due to the fact that its basically a high-powered dust buster with numerous interchangeable attachments. You can attach a cleaning head directly to the dust buster for close-up, handheld use, attach a cleaning head to the wand and the wand to the dust buster to clean floors and drapes, or attach a cleaning head to the flexible hose for more maneuverable cleaning. For floor cleaning you get a spinning brush head and a flat head with a detachable machine-washable microfiber cloth specially for hardwood floors. You also get a smaller spinning brush head for furniture, steps, etc, an edge tool, and a small flat tool for more delicate cleaning. Note that the spinning heads are not powered, they spin from the suction of the dust buster, but the suction power is still very good. Everything clicks easily together and have release buttons to take apart again - quick and simple. The dust bin is a good size, I can do a couple rooms before having to empty it. The cord is very long, so you can easily do a staircase, or go from room to room without having to move the plug every time. The floor cleaning heads pivot from side to side easily with a flick of the wrist for maximum maneuverability. Even the headlights, which I always thought were mostly gimmicky, actually work, lighting up dust and dirt that is invisible on my dark hardwood floors even with plenty of light in the room. A few minor negatives, which are not design flaws but simply consequences of the design to be aware of: - When using as a vacuum, it is top-heavy because the motor and dust bin are at the top. That said, its not actually heavy, its just that all the weight is in the top. This also means that it cant stand on its own, it has be leaned against a wall. Fortunately there are little rubber pads on the back of both the unit and the dust bin, so once its propped against the wall it doesnt fall over. It also comes with a wall mount if youre worried about kids or pets knocking it over. - There isnt space to store the attachments on the unit itself. They come with a convenient storage bag, but you have to carry them with you or go through rooms multiple times with different attachment configurations based on whatever youre cleaning. This is a minor inconvenience, but it keeps the unit light and slim. Overall Im very happy with the performance and versatility of this little vacuum.

I wanted a vacuum that was lightweight, could function as an upright as well as a more portable vacuum, and with attachments that were easy to switch out. My other vacuum is a 13-year-old Dyson Animal – I like it, but it’s heavy at 19 lbs., hard to lug up and downstairs, and requires a lot of thumb pressure to remove attachments. I wanted high quality but didn’t want to spend what I did on the Dyson. The Shark Rocket TruePet Ultralight Vacuum checked all my boxes, and then some. 1. The “rocket” handheld part is only 4 lbs. Perfect for when I constantly need to suck up ladybugs that have squeezed their way inside in the autumn. Or for many other quick vacuum needs. When paired with the long wand and rotating floor brush it’s still only about 8 pounds. 2. Attachments easily click in, and easily detach with a rocker switch. 3. After I received the TruePet, I carefully vacuumed a couple rooms first with the Dyson, and then followed with the Shark. It picked up a little more dust than the Dyson. 4. Less than half the price of the Dyson! 5. The LED lights are awesome. They are on both the rocket and the rotating floor brush, and highlight stuff you wouldn’t otherwise see. 6. The TruePet Motorized Brush is why I sought out this particular model. Shark has several models in the HV320 series. Their website isn’t good at showing how they differ. I think they all have the same rocket, but are accessorized differently. And including the motorized brush makes this a good deal because it’s the same price as the others in the series. This thing has really good power. I have a similar accessory on my Dyson, but it is big and clunky and will fall off the hose if you don’t hold onto it. Shark’s brush clicks in securely so you don’t have to worry about it. 7. Flexible hose. It’s only about 12 inches or so, but it’s a handy extra to have when you need extra reach to get into smaller spaces or just need the flexibility. Kudos to Amazon for being the only online retailer that I could find that even mentions this accessory. Even the box doesn’t tell you everything that is included, until you open the box and see the list on the inside flaps. That was frustrating, because I bought a different model in the HV320 series first only to find it didn’t come with what I wanted. Kudos also to the reviewer(s) who posted photos of the box contents. That really helped! 8. The dust bin. This holds plenty for its size, and is easy to remove and empty without making a big mess. 9. Pushing this as an upright is a breeze. I do have low-pile carpeting, but it feels like it’s self-propelled. I can feel the resistance when I pull back, so I know the suction is good. 10. Loved that Amazon’s packaging came with not only a bigger Amazon box to hide the contents, but the original box was snugly inside another plain box from the manufacturer. Well protected and nobody had to know what had been delivered. 11. Some comment that it doesnt stand upright by itself. Not a big deal to me because its really easy to detach the rocket and hang it on the wand near the floor. Negatives? Like others have mentioned, it would be nice to have a hard floor brush tool available without having a microfiber cloth. Applications would be basement floor or if its dirty enough that youd like to pre-clean before using the tool with the attached cloth. Since the first stroke on a surface isnt always a forward stroke, the microfiber pad would stay cleaner longer if there was suction behind as well as in front of the pad. The wand attached to the hard floor tool (the one with the pad) doesnt lock in and stay upright whether the rocket is hanging on the bottom of the wand for storage or not. It would be nice if the on-board tool clip allowed you to click in the accessories instead of just staying on with friction, because they have a tendency to fall off. But then the accessories meant to go on that clip dont click in to the vacuum either. The rolling floor brush doesnt slide all the way under my coffee table, which has a shelf 3.5 off the floor. It will slide in 8, up to the point where the rolling brush meets the handle. Thats still at least 6 further than my Dyson can go, so at least its an improvement.

Edit - 12/2/18: I still love this vacuum! It functions as well as it did on day one, and cleaning the filters every month is super easy. Being bagless, I love that you don’t have to keep buying things as you go. Also, I just got new, high pile, thick shag rugs a few weeks ago, and I was a little worried they would snag on this vacuum because of the reviews some people left on the rug site, but I haven’t had any problems with this vacuum! I just use the first setting and don’t stay too long in one spot. When I want to get trickier things like dog hair off the rugs, I use the special motorized pet attachment and it works really well without snagging the rug at all. You won’t be disappointed with this vacuum! The one thing that is a little annoying is the crevice tool sometimes falls off if you’re jostling around the vacuum a lot (which you will, because this thing is so flexible and goes everywhere), so just make sure to really stick it on there when you put it back. I also love how easily everything comes apart and new attachments slide on. Everything glides and fits so well, and it feels sturdy. I vacuum once or twice a day because of my dog’s double coat, so it really has stood the test of time. I would definitely buy this vacuum again if I had to! Original - 6/26/17: Omg, I didnt think it was possible but I am in LOVE with this vacuum cleaner. Im the type of person who painstakingly researches all of my purchases before going through with them, and this vacuum was no exception. The reviews were great but this vacuum surpassed my expectations. It is light enough to be able to vacuum comfortably but it packs some serious sucking power. I used to have an inexpensive handheld before I got my American Eskimo Dog, and it showed to be no match for his extreme shedding. I was stressing out because a lot of models, even specifically pet ones, had many negative reviews about the hair getting caught and having to stop and remove it several times each vacuuming session. This product has been amazing and Ive never had a problem with anything, especially hair getting caught. I also have long hair (to approximately my mid-back) that winds up everywhere... Sometimes I wonder how I have any left on my head. This vacuum picks everything up like a champ. I clean the roller after every few sessions to ensure there arent any problems. I have a 650 square foot apartment with tile (kitchen and bathroom), laminate flooring everywhere else, and several area rugs (two of them are thick, shaggy ones that my dog loves to lounge on). The True Pet motorized attachment cleans them like brand new in a matter of minutes. Youll be amazed (and maybe horrified) at what it picks up from carpet/rugs. I empty the canister once per session or so when I vacuum the whole apartment, which is great considering how much it picks up. I cant even begin to tell you how pleasant it is to do everything with this vacuum. Moving it, swapping out attachments, and even detaching the handheld top portion to use by itself is a dream. Everything glides in and out so smoothly. I had to struggle with my previous vacuum to attach the various pieces which was really frustrating and led to chipped nails and an annoying experience. It also overheated several times during each session and would shut itself off, so I couldnt clean the whole apartment with it at once. This model never overheats or loses power. You dont realize how much little things like that matter until you have something better. The vacuum has two suction settings: powerful and tornado (not really but youll see how strong it is). It is not too loud though which is really nice. It also has washable filters so paired with the bagless canister, you dont have to waste money replacing these items. The close to $200 price tag seemed a little high to me at first, but after looking around and seeing how high other models go and compared to how amazing this one is, I cant imagine myself using anything else. It makes it a joy to clean. It stores nicely either on the floor (you remove the top handheld portion and hook it on the bottom) or there is a wall attachment. It takes up very little floor space and honestly, it looks nice so you wont mind if it is visible. There are also lights on both the main floor attachment and the handheld attachment which are amazing. You can see all the little dirt and debris and can even vacuum in the dark if you want to (when picking up dog hair its actually almost easier to do so in the dark because of how well these lights work, especially at angles). This vacuum will not disappoint you.

Disclosure - I am writing this under my husbands name. The beginning of December (2022) my faithful Shark Rotator ZU782 basically fell apart. I had purchased it in 2019 and it had great suction until the end - the body just plain wore out. I am hard on vacuums. I live in the woods, I have several pets, 4 grandchildren 5 and under, and a fireplace. The vacuum gets hauled up and down steps, and used on both hardwood and carpet. And I am a clean freak. 2-4 years seems to be how long a vacuum lasts for me. After checking out the latest research on pet friendly vacuums, I switched to the Shark NV501. Because I had had such good luck with the Shark, I chose to stay with the brand, and this model kept coming up as one of the best for families with pets. After about a week of harried, distracted, pre-Christmas use, I went to vacuum under the bed only to realize it wouldnt fit. My large coon hound hides under there at the first threat of thunder, so though I dont vacuum under there daily, I do after every storm. That was a deal breaker for me, but it had had a week of use, the box was long gone and I figured I was stuck with it. It also did a mediocre job removing cat hair off furniture, and felt less sturdy than my older ZU782. After fretting about it for most of the month I decided to spring for something else. This time I made sure it would fit under the bed, and read every customer review I could find, instead of the experts opinions. I chose this Shark HV322 Rocket Pet Plus instead of a canister model. Its pretty amazing! It does an even better job than the NV501 vacuuming up pet hair (and cat litter and Christmas tree needles) on hardwood, carpet and furniture. It maneuvers easily, (even easier than my ZU782) fits under beds and almost all the way under sofas. The attachments are super easy to use. I couldnt be happier with this little gem. I am going to keep the NV501 in our finished basement, but wish I had assessed it more thoroughly the day it arrived. I hope this lengthy review helps YOU choose the right vacuum for YOU. This is also the cheapest of the 3 models mentioned. Today my old ZU782 is $288.95, the NV501 is $235.45, and the HV322 Rocket is $179.99.

This vacuum is a God send! I can’t say enough good things. It’s very very easy to maneuver. The head of it is able to swivel, so it’s easy to access corners of a room. It’s also small, but that is a plus!! You can get anywhere with this vacuum. Its size does not at all interfere with the vacuums performance. I also love how you are able to detach the plate under the brush so you can clean out allll the hair that you’ve vacuumed up. It’s such an easy to use vacuum. It pretty much drives itself around lol. I lost track of time vacuuming because I was as enjoying it. Sounds crazy, but the pick up power of this vacuum is off the charts. Good job Shark!

We have bought this 5 times! We gave one to each of our daughters. We bought one for our vacation rental, and this is our second one after we had used our first one for years. What I like most: I love that I can remove the disposal cup from the vacuum to dump the stuff it has picked up right into the garbage can. Some vacuums you have to take the entire head of the vacuum off to dump it and is messier. I can see from the disposal cup how much dirt, dust and dog hair I am picking up. I feel the suction is strong enough for everything, without being too strong for my oriental rugs. There is also the ability to reduce the suction. Various versions come with different attachments, so you have to make sure the on you are ordering has the extras you were looking for (pet brush, wall hanger, etc.) Lastly, I have carpal tunnel and neuropathy and the ease of using this, which is why we switched to a different style vacuum, is I can handle it without issue.

I have a big Rainbow vacuum that I use to clean the entire house. I love the Rainbow because it uses water as a filtering medium, so suction remains strong no matter how dirty the filter gets and it effectively gets a new filter every time its used. Its only downside is that its large and bulky, so if I have to vacuum a small section (like, a carpet runner in a hallway) its a bit of an ordeal to take out and set up. My basement has been converted to a space for my teenage daughter. Most of it is bare concrete (epoxy coated) but theres some carpeting here and there. Further, my daughters pet rabbit makes its home in the basement so theres a fair amount of rabbit fur and debris (hay, bits of chewed cardboard, etc) around its area. My daughter has been okay with keeping the floors clean but since the Rainbow is big and bulky it wasnt as good as it should have been. So I went shopping for a small yet effective vacuum to handle this job and this Shark is where I landed. Truthfully I wasnt expecting very much, but after the first use I was shocked by how good it actually is. I wouldnt use it to clean the floors of the whole house (I cant see its nearly-all-plastic construction lasting as long as my 35+ year old Rainbow) but I would absolutely use this for a small apartment. Or, of course, our basement. Assembly was insanely easy. I didnt have to refer to the owners manual for anything, although after I used it I did check it out just to see if I was missing any features (I wasnt). The pieces simply slide and lock into place very securely, and are easy enough to disconnect/disassemble as needed. There are several well-marked, large release latches for this. I particularly liked how the power switch works. For hardwood (or concrete) floors, moving the switch to the first position enables the sweeper on the power head as well as suction, so youre not relying on JUST suction to pick up dirt. For carpeted floors, moving the switch forward enables the beater bar to really get into the carpet fibers. My daughters pet rabbit roams an area of about 250 square feet, of which about half is carpeted and it hadnt been vacuumed in probably a month. After using this vacuum on it for the first time we filled the collection bin with bits of hay and rabbit fur and the carpet looked every bit as clean as when I use the Rainbow on it. The LED lights on the vacuum head is a nice touch, allowing you to more easily see dirt and debris on the floor (just look for the long shadows). Removing the power head doesnt make you blind, however, as theres a second LED on the vacuum motor that lights the area youre working on. The vacuum head isnt very tall at all, and the hose bends down enough to allow absolutely flat operation. Using this I was able to get under low-lying furniture like my daughters desk and the nearby shelf units. Suction power is also very good, and consistent throughout its run. I expected the vacuum to be more like the handheld Dustbuster-type vacs we have in the house where power diminishes very quickly as the filter clogs up, but no. Power stayed consistent and strong even with a pretty sold mass of rabbit fur and straw filling the collection bin. Three things I dont like about it, but are minor things overall. First, it comes with a storage hook cast into the casing which is nice, but the matching hook for the wall is an extra-cost item. Its available on Amazon for an additional $24 or you can get an identical third-party unit for less than half. For a nearly-$200 vacuum cleaner, its inexcusable for Shark to demand additional money for this piece. Second, its top-heavy. Now, this isnt a shock considering the nature of the unit and Im not exactly penalizing it for being what it is. But it does mean that when youre done using it for the moment (like, you want to unplug it, or you just need to move some furniture around) youre really going to want to just lay it down on the floor. More than once did I try to lean it against the wall only to have it slide down. If I wasnt paying attention it would have hit the floor hard (top-heavy, remember?) and probably damaged the plastics, which includes the collection bin. And third, the vacuum head doesnt have really good suction on the sides so cleaning the edges and corners of stairs isnt nearly as effective as cleaning the stair itself. Youll be removing the vacuum head to get into those nooks and crannies. Still, even with those issues Id buy it again.
