24-11-2024The only other HVLP gun I’ve tried before was the HF Purple gun, so admittedly, I’m a paint sprayer beginner. My application is spraying latex and primer on home projects (trim, doors, furniture, etc.) The purple gun would not spray latex well, even with modifying the fluid nozzle and thinning the paint. I found the TCP gun to be worth a shot since it had a 2.5 tip and reviewers experienced success with thick material. This week’s project was to spray primer and latex over a stained fireplace mantel. I used 40 psi, no filter, fluid adjustment knob backed all the way out. and thinned both the primer and Sherwin Willams paint with 15% Floetrol Flood. I shot 2 coats of primer and 3 top coats. My project was a success and I’m pleased with the smooth finish. The gun worked well and I would recommend it as a viable option for thick paint.. Also, this gun ships with a significant amount of grease, so best to clean that before use. The problem I have is not being able to unscrew and remove the Fluid Nozzle Joint in order to sufficiently clean the inside. It comes with a wrench and allen type tool to remove the Joint, but good luck getting it off. The first one stripped the wrench so I called TCP and spoke to someone in technical support. The answer given to me was I shouldn’t have to remove the Joint to clean the gun. I asked what size allen would work, because a 9 or 10mm didn’t, and they had no idea. Unacceptable answer for me and since I like the gun, I set up an Amazon replacement. Less than 24 hours later, Amazon delivers a new gun (nice job Amazon). This one had even more grease, so I disassembled it for a thorough cleaning. Guess what….the Joint is screwed on by the Hulk himself and can’t get it backed out. Immediately stripped the wrench. So frustrating. I’m sending it back. The guns works well and at 50 bucks it’s a great value, especially if you’re ok with “good enough” cleanings. I’m more particular about my stuff. I don’t consider it a disposable gun and with proper cleanings after use, it certainly doesn’t have to be. After this post, I think I will shoot TCP an email and see if they offer any support / suggestions. What I’d like is if they loosen the Nozzle Joint prior to shipping, that way we can disassemble and degrease the thing, It also would be nice if the Joint was a standard size allen, but I doubt that will change.

> 3 dayI got one of the guns they basically glued together. It looks nice and seems to be well built for shooting primer but theres something wrong with putting a brand new paint gun in a vise to get enough torque on the head to remove it for initial cleaning! Im talking easily 75ftlbs to remove

> 3 dayI purchased this gun to replace an old, worn-out Campbell Hausfeld latex sprayer for which parts were no longer available. Although I used it to apply two-coats of oil-based, high-gloss enamel to a dresser I refinished, I was very pleased with its performance. Some features I particularly liked: -The pattern, flow volume and air adjustments all operated smoothly and easily -The gravity feed, HVLP feature is handy in keeping the wasted paint to a minimum (used about 25 PSI at the tank and reduced a little more at the regulator on the handle) and I find the top-mounted gravity feed cup (vice an under mount siphon feed) interferes less with the work piece. -Trigger operated smoothly and precisely (felt like a $300.00 gun) -Clean up was easy -Nozzle wrench, clean-up tools and pressure regulator were included, however you will need a male connector for your air hose. Update: My second project involved oil-based high gloss enamel that required xylol as a thinner. I got a little over-spray on the pressure regulator window and wiped it with xylol during cleanup to remove the paint mist. The xylol fogged the window (i.e. softened the plastic) enough to make it opaque. Again, the gun performed well but the pressure regulator window would perform better if it was made of glass or another solvent-resistant material.

Greater than one weekWanted something to shoot latex paint for small wood working projects. This had the biggest nozzle for the best price I came across and had pretty good reviews. Fit and finish seem good and believe it or not it works pretty well with latex paint (I did thin just a bit with flotrol the first time and water the second time, both seemed to work). I’ve never used the high dollar guns before so I can’t compare to them but for the budget minded hobbiest I think this works pretty good. I would however not recommend this for large projects or painting a room type of thing, the pattern is too small and it would take way to long, an airless system would probably be better for that. If you keep it clean I have no reson not to believe it will last, the only improvement would be an even bigger nozzle. I believe this is the biggest they offer though (2.5mm).

> 3 dayworks really well, great atomization of paint. For the price its hard to beat, like any sprayer cleaning is vital and you can get this guy cleaned out and ready to go in a matter of minutes.

> 3 dayIve tried a lot of different HVLP guns off Amazon. We use them a lot. At this price theyre expendable. Compared to others though, these TCP Global guns are much nicer. Everything fits together better and they seem to last as long or longer than others. The springs do eventually rust like others at this price point. The gun can be fully disassembled though which is a lot better than other spray guns sold here - much easier to clean. Id like an option with a 600mL plastic cup instead of the overly heavy 1L aluminum one. Also the trigger screw (the one behind the trigger) needs some lock-tite on it or something. This is my second gun where it keeps coming out.

> 3 dayI’m using this gun to spray PPG VP2050 high build epoxy primer. It atomizes well, and lays down a nice even coat with a 1.8 tip. Used it to paint a 1979 MGB. If you have job like this in mind this gun and regulator will do a nice job.
