Performance is amazing paired with my Edgerouter ER4. I tried 2 other cheaper switches (unmanaged and managed) that couldnt deliver performance wise and lacked easy to use features. The EdgeSwitch 8 allows me to setup some home/office/IOT VLANs. Im getting over 980 Mbps download speeds on my cable ISP consistently. Theres a huge amount of examples and YouTube training videos to get you started. Not hard if youve played with routers or networking before.

I bought the Ubiquiti EdgeMax router a while back and was impressed. Had an old Cisco 2960 10/100 switch and some PoE injectors running the wired portion of my house. Got rid of 4 injectors and the old switch and replaced with this one unit. EASY setup and management! Saw my PoE devices and auto configured the power settings. Small footprint and VERY quiet. Great hardware and a decent feature set.

Granted I probably just havent updated the firmware enough but this equipment operates separate of the unifi controller. Not good or bad. Just for note. Otherwise this switch is great for either sitting as the hub for a home network where all your Ethernet outlets connect to one device or for a lab like Im using. Definitely worth the money

I’ve been working from home since 2018 and never got around to segmenting my home network. Finally got this switch to put all the devices in my office on separate VLANs to keep my work, IoT, and home devices away from each other.

DOA. Unit did not power up. You can hear parts shifting inside the unit when you take it out of the box. MY OWN FAULT FOR NOT CHECKING IT SOONER. The return window closed, so I need to send it to the manufacture for the RMA process. Will update review as the process happens. 1. Discovered issue. 2. Requested RMA online. (Approved right then.) 3. Will be taken to UPS and paying to ship it to Utah. 4. RMA Processing time says 1 to 2 weeks. Update: RMA took about 10 days. New unit works without issue. So I guess this was a case of shipping damage???

It’s hard to find real switches under 16 ports as this tends to drop into more “Consumer” grade products This ES8 is serving as a small trunk to an ES24. It powers two small x86 machines using 802.113AT without issue. It also provides passive PoE reliability. Throughput to devices on the uplinked switch is as if it was native. Not a single feature nor any performance compromises in the ES8. If you need an 8 port switch and 802.113xx this is what you want to pick up. It also supports link aggregation so that’s an option if you really need it I haven’t made use of the SFP module but I expect it works just as well as the rest of the device. Highly recommend, especially if you need PoE/PoE+ Note that because the ES8 can push 150W, it can not be powered over Ethernet itself. If you want a smaller switch that can be powered by PoE, look at the Edge-X or the Edge-X Advanced. They support PoE input AND can do passive 2-wire PoE output.
