The overall quality of this Radio is excellent. Controls for volume etc. are good and intuitive with practice. VOLUME IS CLEAR and Adjustable. I am not satisfied with the instructions on how to program this radio, consequently, Ive not programmed the radio because the instructions are not clearly described. Instead, I just rely upon the existing frequencies (Channels) that are pre-set at the factory (out of the box). Probably, most disappointing is that fact that in this region, theres just not that many open channels broadcasting, and that is likely due to the encrypted frequencies or just so little or no traffic. Once in a while, I might be able to pick up periodic conversation lasting several seconds for FIRE or MARINE but thats about it. Only WEATHER (NOAA) has a consistent and prolonged broadcast anouncement. POLICE, AIR RACE HAM, OTHER (GMRS etc), RAIL, and CB channels are basically quiet or full of Static. HAM channels may occasional pick up local chat between two HAM operators certain time of the early evening, but nothing else. Any disappointment with this scanner isnt the scanner itself but with the lack of hearing life action other than on weather or marine frequencies.

Easy to program and easy to learn, considering it was my first time using a scanner. Good amount of banks and channels you can program. Uniden provides a program you can download that makes it extremely easy to program frequencies. Great scanner for first-time users and people who just want to listen in or have an interest. There are a few problems: 1) Eats batteries like crazy 2) The viewing angle on the screen is extremely limited, so if you have it laying on a table or something similar you most likely are going to have to pick it up and look at the screen to see what channel is transmitting 3) No battery life indicator, other than beeping and a visual cue when the batteries are almost dead 4) Using the LED light that lightens the screen orange only lasts about 10 seconds before it automatically turns off. So far I havent found a way to keep it on permanently. 5) No channel names, so if you have many banks and channels you are going to have to write up an Excel spreadsheet or something similar to keep track of what channel is what. 6) The stock antenna is somewhat lacking in range. I purchased an aftermarket antenna, linked below. (

Good reception in my town even with stock antenna. Using store bought energizer rechargeable batteries, they last plenty long enough. The only annoying thing about these is the low battery alarm beep that cannot be disabled. The alarm beep volume is determined by the current output volume so if you have it set high, the alarm beep will be somewhat loud too. Its a very frequent beep.

The Bearcat BC75XLT is a great starter scanner for the beginner. I am finding this device to be a huge asset when it comes to knowing what is going on around me. Search my name, the make and model of this scanner on Youtube for a complete in-depth video presentation. Features I like about this radio: * Searching through the VHF/UHF frequencies is very fast. * 300 Memory Channels * Priority Channel mode. * Close Call mode. * Great reception when compared to my other HTs. * Customized Search feature that can be done directly on the radio. * Ten Service Bands, makes finding certain frequencies that much quicker. * Delay...oh how you need this. * Good build quality. * Uses 2 AA batteries, either Alkaline or NiMH. * Smart Charger built in for the NiMH batteries. * USB power can supply the radio enough power to run without battteries. * USB connectivity to the computer for downloading and uploading data to the scanner. Free software download. * Included USB cable. * Headphone jack is excellent, no noise, clean sound. * Nice and evenly lit LCD display. * Scanning stored channels is a breeze, and can be customized. * Temporary and Permanent lock out feature. * Informative Manual, lots of detail. Features that could be added or improved on: * A separate squelch knob would be fantastic. * A monitor button. * A full stop on frequency when searching. This would be nice so you dont have to have your finger resting on the hold button all the time. Overall, for the cost of this portable scanner, I am very impressed and recommend this as a first scanner to purchase and learn with. Just enough to keep you busy for months. I am surprised by the amount of analog activity that still exists around me.

It is a good scanner, as all the Uniden scanners are. Has the close call feature, made for narrow band, and is easy to program from the keyboard. Unfortunately I have been unable to find the programming software on their website. It claims that you can download it but the link address has nothing for a BC75XLT. Maybe it is available somewhere else. I would give a 5 star rating if this software was available.

I bought 2 of these which were said to be used. They were brand new, still in the box. One still had teh plastic across the face, and the other didnt. Both worked amazing from the start and work BETTER than my Realistic Pro107. I put a stronger antenna (less than $4 on ebay) and can pick up over 50 miles away! I love the computer program feature which got me over 200 channels. I can now pick up everything in the surrounding area and can hear the ambulances! I also pick up fire, railroad traffic, and all the police, county sheriff, and highway patrol. Im beyond happy with my purchase from Amazon!

well it is a good handheld scanner, indoor use or handheld works pretty good. pick up police frequency with no problem. loud and clear. store frequency is easy. scan function is good. HOWEVER, dont try to use it in a car. i keep it in my car and while the car is moving in town, the result is not good anymore. so if you would like to use it in car, consider using an additional long car scanner antenna for it. i m guessing it would helps a lot. but overall, this is a good scanner.

As the title indicates, I bought this for monitoring team channels at auto racing events. For the price, it works great for this purpose. It drove two sets of isolation headphones (hooked up through a splitter) with plenty of volume to be heard over the cars. The scan feature worked great and the hold function made it easy to focus in on a particular driver. Battery life was more than enough to last through the race and then some. The only reason Im giving it four stars instead of five is because of the lack of proper instructions for connecting to a PC for programming. It is NOT simply plug and play as the manual suggests. However the process was not that difficult to figure out with a little web searching. Also I had some minor issues with interference at the track, but Im not taking that into account with the rating because I dont know if the scanner was to blame or not.

Programming the device is a bit challenging. Programming thru a connected computer may be easier, but requires purchased software. Uniden should provide the software gratis. And the scanner SHOULD be usable while charging, battery life is short. Works well, good reception here in mountain valley until recharge requires shutdown.
