Nice little scanner that does the job - so far, so good. The instructions are very detailed, so you have to pay attention to them in order to get the scanner up and running properly. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the features before jumping in and trying to make it work. If you jump right in, you will become frustrated very quickly. Also, the antenna that comes with it did not pick up any reception in my location. I picked up the UpBright 16 Dual Band antenna, hooked it up and it picked up reception instantly.

since the FCC have changed the frequency and codes for scanners and 2 way radios i have been looking for an updated radiio. since mine are older models they will not except the codes because of different frequency. off and on i would check amazon to find a good radio that will except the the frequency and reasonable price. i finally found one and yes it was refurbished but it was at a reasonable price i can afford. i contacted the seller to find out if it will except the updated frequency and within the next business day i got an email stating yes it does. so i ordered and got it in a few days. yes it took some time to figured it out and to reprogram it but in a half hour i had the frequencies put in. so now instead of listening to my officers i now can here the dispatch as well. the only thing that i have to say negative is that for some reason the town that is my county has a different frequency which i can still pick up on my older model but not on this one. they are the only town that has its own code # but i dont think it has to do with the radio itself. i love and i love the honesty when emailing back and forth with the company i bought it from. thank you guys.

I purchased this to have access to local goings-on in the event I needed to employ my bugout bag. But it has such unexpectedly great reception and so many useful features, I keep it on all day my poor old tabletop unit is gathering dust. I can pull in signals for all four counties surrounding my own (I added a more powerful antenna, but the supplied rubber ducky is plenty strong on its own), including CB from the highway a mile or so away, all the air traffic from the international airport 15 miles south, as well as smaller airfields within that area. NOAA weather, rail traffic and HAM broadcasts are all searchable, if rechargeable batteries are used, they can ne charges via USB cable and the unit can be programmed from you PC using the USB as well. Excellent item.

One of the reasons I chose this over the BC125AT is that the display is bigger. Where the 125 uses 2 lines to display frequency and an alpha tag, this one uses the space for 1 line. I have used scanners enough in my county so I know what frequency is what. Also 500 channels is way more than I need. I had a 20+ year old Bearcat scanner that still worked, but the rechargeable battery was gone, so I had to leave it plugged in to use it. Its nice to have a portable scanner again.

This little scanner offers a lot of features at a decent price, and gives you the option of convenient portability. Not much to say, other than that it works like its supposed to. The only thing to keep in-mind, particularly if you are not already experienced with scanners, is that you will not get great range or reception with the included antenna. If you need range, be prepared to install and use a larger/outdoor antenna, which is not difficult to accomplish.

After having the Whistler which received from 5 to 10 miles out, the Uniden is great! It receives from at least 50 miles and more with the stock antenna. Unlike the Whistler, the Uniden is not as easy to use. But after programming who cares. I would give a 5 star if it was more user friendly. When it really comes down to it I want performance. It easily receives as well as my 2 way radios.

Im a rail fan so I like to be able to hear the engine crews and dispatchers when Im trackside. With its pre programmed service bands, the BC75XLT is so easy to use. I found the reception to be good and when using Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries, I could listen in for hours on a full charge. The batteries can also be charged in the unit via a USB power source such as a computer or wall adapter. The unit is also simple to program if you want to enter specific frequencies or a range of frequencies. I also like that it is very compact and seems to be well built. I would recommend..

Also, this particular scanner, is not a digital scanner, like it is listed. It is analog. I am on able to pick up anything, in my area. TI just wish as a blind person that the blind erson could program the scanner without sighted help. I dont remember the brand name of the scanner but you can program it and it talks

I purchased this Uniden Bearcat Scanner in order to monitor Kansas City Southern and and Canadian National railroads in the Alexandria, Baton Rouge and New Orleans area as well as the Baton Rouge area NOAA Weather Radio frequency. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner works best with rechargeable NI-MH 2300 Mah batteries. The Scanner can also be powered by to Alkaline batteries but this type of doesn’t last long at all. After installing the two NI-MH 2300 Mah rechargeable batteries I haven’t had recharge yet. This Scanner has a built in sercuit, which charges the batteries when the Scanner is connected to your computer. The Scanner’s functions are straight forward and very easy to operate and understand. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner will also receive Fire/EMS and Louisiana Department of Corrections Statewide Scanner Frequency, meriner’s info frequency and area wide Ham frequency in our area as well as Baton Rouge Metropolitan airport Ryan Feild, but will not tune in police frequencies in this area as the police now use 800s Scanner frequencies for their added security. Al in all this Scanner is great tool to have during hurricane season.
