> 3 dayI’m a huge rail fan and I love that it’s got the different bands already programmed. Needed a little tweaking (meaning locking out spurious signals) and it does exactly what I need. I used it with an external antenna so I can sit in my car and have good coverage. Definitely recommend this little guy.

> 3 dayI was told by a co-worker not to get an Analog scanner since they no longer work around Richmond/Chesterfield Co in VA. Emergency and Police have gone encrypted and not digital. I was given so false info that oh yeah it should work. B.S. Uniden did send me info after I had already ordered it that it wouldnt work after 2 comments stated that it should work even picking up Marine, Aviation broadcasts. All I heard was a picture clear signal for the local weather advisory. I pick up maybe a 20-30 second faint broadcast of some police signal then the scanner blew past it which wasnt what I wanted it to do and I no longer heard that. I heard someone on a ham radio discussing something about North Korea and that signal was strong but it didnt last long. It was damn difficult to try to program or place in a frequency to see if I could get anything else. It was a bunch of nonsense. I spent to much time on Amazon reading reviews good and bad and seeing what I could buy w/o a ham radio license and yada yada. After I sent it back, I went to Best Buy and purchased myself a $99 pair of Uniden walkie talkies for $79 since it was in the wrong place on the rack and there was no other location for where they were supposed to be. It was the last pair and they had to honor where it was placed. Havent opened it yet since it is a Fathers Day present to myself but it is better than racking my brain over analog, digital, encrypted nonsense.

> 3 dayA potential great that falls just short. Excellent features. Excellent for the beginner and average user who enjoys listen to what is going on in areas with low band, VHF coverage. Most often. Rural areas. Not hard to program in frequencies, Ten banks to organize or group your local favorites. Lock-out button to remove unnecessary chatter when something big is going on ( the banks help there also). I am very pleased with the operation of this scanner. But my only beef with the designers of this portable scanner is the battery life. It only uses two AA batteries, instead of four. Really guys?!?? What were you thinking??! So far, my experiments with Rechargable batteries have found Tenergy batteries to last the longest. I get 5 to 6 hours depending on scanner traffic. I always carry spare batteries and spare power cable when taking it out for extended periods. So, If w friend were to ask if they should purchase one. I would say go ahead, it will do the job you need it to do. It has some excellent features, but just understand its one major design flaw and shortcoming. And carry extra batteries when out and about.

> 3 dayThis has nothing to do with product, only the way it was packaged. Who in there right mind would solely rely on a factory packaged item. There was not tape to speak of on it and thank god the little lock tabs held. I guess if the return in factory condition was a option if needed, it would be a stretch of imagination

> 3 dayIts bad enough no batteries are included but there is no information on the specific type of batteries other than rechargeable Ni-Mh batteries. I would have made a different purchase had I known

> 3 dayIt’s not to hard to learn how to use if you read the directions. Picked up signals from at least a few mile radius with no additional modifications inside of an Aluminum sided home. I would invest in rechargeable batteries as an 8 hour use and you will need a new set.
