> 3 dayWe originally registered for a video monitor for our nursery and got it, but once the baby came, we realized it was really inconvenient not to have a monitor in our bedroom since he was sleeping in there in his bassinet. We also found ourselves needing a monitor when we went to our families lake house and wanted to sit on the patio after putting him to bed in our bedroom. These monitors are fantastic. The baby monitor has to be plugged in, but the parent monitor does not. It has chargeable batteries. My mom had an older model from vtech and the parent monitor has to be plugged in too. We love that the parent monitor is able to be charged and portable. It creates so much more flexibility. I find myself putting my ear to the monitor to make sure it is still working even though it is linked, but every time Im linked and realize what a great feature it is, they dont make the background noice like a sleep machine loud on the parent monitor, it only reacts when a loud noice happens like the baby moves or cries out which makes trying to hold a conversation so much easier. I would highly recommend these monitors. IT has been key while our 4 month old continues to sleep in our room and any trip they are the first thing we pack into the diaper bag. Hope you enjoy them as much as we have!

> 3 dayI bought this product to monitor my newborn in another room when he is sleeping. I use it in conjunction with a baby monitor and it gives me the piece of mind that I can check on my baby at any time. I had an issue with the first one I received and amazon was able to give me a full replacement. The replacement has worked flawlessly. I live in a 3000sq foot house and it seems to connect pretty well throughout the house. It will give you a warning beep if it loses connection at any time. Simply have one monitor close to the baby and keep the other one next to you. It is as simple as that. As long as it shows linked it will transmit any sounds your baby makes. It also has a noise cancellation so that it doesnt transmit the while noise machine that I have running in the background. You can change the sensitivity levels from a range of 1-5. This keeps you from being alarmed at every pin drop but allows you to hear the important cries of the baby. If you feel the need to speak to your baby, you can simply click on the side the talk. It also has a night light feature that lights the handle. Unfortunately, I have not seen a need for this. If I wanted a night light, I would buy a night light. Volume is controlled from 1-5 and also has a light feature to show level of sounds even if you have the volume turned all the way down. The battery seems to least 12 hours of normal usage. Some have mentioned that they would like to use this as a intercom. I think it would be much easier just to have a two way radio than this for an intercom device. So until your baby can yell out his window to tell you his diaper is wet or he is hungry, I recommend this product for the use as a baby audio monitor. Even more so, I recommend buying it from amazon as they provide the added customer support when needed.

Greater than one weekWeve had 2 sets the Sony Baby Call (NTM-910) analog monitor (not this monitor) for the life of all of our children (7 years). The analog monitors could be turned up to be crazy loud, where even a low voice comes through to the parent monitor as a very loud voice. We bought this VTech digital monitor for the range, as our analog monitors would loose connection and beep often when we were in our back yard. This monitor holds the link great - weve never seen it lost, but ... the volume pales in comparison to the analog monitors. A crying baby would be picked up, no problem, but a 2 year old that is potty training and calls for us with her normal voice comes through, even at the highest sensitivity and volume, comes through to the parent unit as a tiny 2 year old voice. If we are watching a loud movie, or in a deep sleep, we are not going to hear our daughter call for us, and that is a problem. Im going to try to carve out the plastic around the mic hole to increase sensitivity - I will update this review to let you know how it goes. Until then, its back to the Sony analog monitors, which I recommend if you have a small to medium sized house and dont mind re-positioning the monitor occasionally to get back the link. For what its worth, we also purchased the Philips Avent (SCD510) digital monitor and it has the same volume problem. I gave a 4-star rating because it is a great monitor, aside from not able to increase to mega volume level. Perhaps there is a technical reason that digital monitors cannot increase the volume that loud, I dont know, but these dont work for us. *** Update: As mentioned above, I tried to carve out the plastic around the mic hole to increase sensitivity. No luck. Still not loud enough for us.

> 3 dayI absolutely love my VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor! The sound quality is crystal clear and I can easily hear every little noise my baby makes. The range on this monitor is also impressive, as I am able to move around my house and still get a strong connection. But the best part about this monitor is the added features, like the two-way talk feature. The two-way talk feature allows me to comfort my baby from a distance. I also have to mention that I am a huge fan of the Vtech brand in general. Their products are always high quality and innovative. I have purchased several other Vtech products for my family and have never been disappointed. Overall, the VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor is a fantastic investment for any parent. It provides peace of mind and convenience, and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable baby monitor.

> 3 dayWe bought this when we moved into a place with two levels. We only need to use it for a couple of hours a day/night when baby is asleep and were awake and upstairs. The battery life is good, weve only needed to charge it a few times, despite having it over a month now. Everything works as expected. The distance it stays connected has been impressive (Ive walked outside with the parent monitor without an issue). The baby unit does need to stay plugged in in order for it to work.

> 3 dayUPDATED below Original post: If you dont feel the need for all the bells-and-whistles associated with a video camera monitor (and NO judgment there, we have a paranoid parent breathing mat monitor as well!), I highly HIGHLY recommend this monitor. Specifically, we purchased it for our toddler when our second child came around. This thing is crystal clear, has a fantastic range of options, and is relatively low maintenance. Pros: - the vibrate function - so cool! Lets you know someone is making noise by vibrating. (Might have turned that feature on a few nights while I was up with the newborn, just so my husband could have a slightly more visceral understanding of being awakened, but I digress). - the night light - its really a nice mellow yellow glow and turns off automatically after a few minutes PLUS you can turn the kid unit night light on remotely, which is amazing if theyve lost their water cup somewhere in the bed and need to find it. - the walkie-talkie function is great. Our toddler responds really well if we tell him we have to brush our teeth quickly before getting him up in the morning. Sometimes at night if he wakes up, all he needs to know is that someone loves him and hell go right back to bed with minimal intervention. Cons: - the mute feature does not automatically shut off, meaning that when we mute for a minute late at night, we have to remember in our sleep-deprived fog to un-mute or else we miss some of his noises (is that a con? jury still out...) - battery life - it charges great, but definitely cant run for more than a day without a charge. Not terrible, but not the best on the market. Seriously, if you want an audio monitor, hands down this is my favorite! UPDATE: After using this for a year with our toddler, we purchased another for our infant. I cant tell you how much we love this monitor. I also got one for my parents and in-laws homes. Theyre still holding up great! We recently discovered that the nightlight features is helpful for our toddler too.

> 3 dayJust make sure you’re far enough away from baby when you turn on the parent unit or the very obnoxious and loud safety warning will wake them up. Other than that it’s a great product. Wish there was a way to disable the warning since I’ve heard it about 8,000x by now.
