September 2021 I purchased a Western Digital SN 550 2 TB solid state drive and enclosure. It worked well for about 18 months and then started to malfunction. No problem I thought, WD provides a 5 year warranty. Man was I wrong… Called support and described my problem… First issue, they shipped product without the label that holds the serial number of the device. Oh, and the box does not have the serial number on it either. I sent over a picture of both sides of the drive, plus my Amazon receipt. Here’s what they said I have to do, “Based upon your concern, the only option left to retrieve Serial Number right now is to connect your drive to a motherboard directly and install WD Dashboard on a Windows OS from the link given below. Place your cursor on the drive that is showing on top in WD Dashboard and share the Serial number that is shown there and also reply us back with the proof of purchase of the drive so that we can escalate the case to our internal team and the further updates will be shared via email in the next 2-3 business days after we receive the required information.” Let me get this right… I have to find someone with a Windows desktop PC. Not a Mac, not a Laptop. This person has to be willing to let me tear apart the PC so that I can install a defective drive. Oh and this machine has to have the MVNe slot as a secondary drive, cause I need the Windows OS on the primary drive. Then I download some WD software and hopefully it will reveal the serial number. Once I do that, they will escalate it to an “internal team,” and I (maybe) will hear via email in 2 or 3 business days. I just don’t know people willing to let me tear into their computers to try this and even if I do this, the WD associate won’t commit to honoring their warranty. I’m done with them, No more WD products for me… I have already purchased a Samsung SSD to replace the WD product and won’t go back.

Installed this in my wife SUPER SLOW hp laptop dk0002dx modle and install some ram 16gb in dual channel mode so if anyone has this laptop do NOT let hp tell u its not able to hold 2 ram dims or able to upgrade the storage to something faster her laptop now is booting in a matter of seconds. Will note I did have to get a usb to nvme drive to be able to image her win 10 install and migrate it to the drive. And now that nvme to usb homdwr holds her old nvme drive that has 120gb storage runs at a 400mbs read and write speed. I will say its the fastest usb drive I own. But about the wdblue, the 500gb ssd is more then shell need for schooling and its speeds are close to what is advertised cant say much as her cpu the A9 VARIENT wont allow any faster its maxed out as is.
