I had been working with watercolor pencils and dry watercolor paints and was not getting the images I wished. This set of paints performed right away, and so many more projects are within reach.

When I first started with watercolors I wanted to see if I liked the medium and didnt want to spend a ton of money so I purchased a set of 24 Masters Touch Watercolor tubes for either $9.99 on sale. I created some nice little practice pieces with them so I decided to upgrade a little bit and went with the Windsor Newton Cotman set that everyone on a watercolor group I am in recommended. In all honesty I like the cheap set just as much if not more than the WNCs. The picture I am including is a quick color swatch done with both sets. The top row is the WNC and the bottom row is Masters Touch. As you can see, the colors are so close in color and vibrancy that its not worth the extra cost to me and I got a lot more colors with Masters Touch for a lot less $$. I paint only for myself for stress relief so I dont feel a need to invest a great deal of money to dabble. If I decide to get serious, I will save my money for some Daniel Smith tubes.

Love the paints; wish they chose an additional green or a purple instead of white.

The colors themselves are decent (although I do wish they would have provided Sap Green instead of Viridian green). The paint flows out easily and is quite good for intermediate painters. However, I have a major problem: the lids arent easy to twist off and on. After youve opened a tube, the lid wont go back on straight and youre forced to leave it askew, risking drying the paint inside the tube. Opening the lid is another major effort - you almost have to wrestle to get it to turn and being small and rough, its very difficult. Most of time the tube itself will start turning instead of the lid itself. With this kind of practical problem, I wont recommend this or buy it again.

Incredibly vibrant water colours, you only need to use a little bit of paint at a time. These 12 paints can be mixed to create seemingly infinite additional colours. My personal favourite? About a 2:1 or 3:1 of viridian and Chinese white, it creates the most beautiful jade green. You can of course add extra water to dilute them but also add water after theyve dried to rewet and reuse. A little of this stuff goes a long way. These tubes may seem tiny, but unless youre an artist/art student, these will probably last you a good long while.
