I bought this set many years ago at Michaels. I did a swatch then (the small one with green writing) and the colors seemed faded and not as vibrant. Dont know if its the paper, not enough paint/too much water, or simply the testament to time. (Set was hardly taken out.) If you want something to just play around with as a beginner, you CAN get this set, but honestly feel you can do better with another brand for the same price (or lower!) Also, this set in particular seems so weird. They couldve done without the white and the gray or black. There was only 1 yellow. (I assume thats why there is another set.)

I love Winsor & Newton Cotman palettes. I have more than I will admit. Out of all of them, I feel this one is the perfect size. The

Easy to blend. Compact enough to travel with. My only complaint is there is no brown paint.

Pretty decent quality. I still prefer professional over Cotman, but the color payout is great for the price. My only qualm is with the Lemon Yellow Hue; it is far less pigmented and rich than the other colors (because it’s a hue), and I have used better Lemon Yellow Hues from other brands that are by no means as high esteemed as Windsor & Newton. Hence the 4 stars. But the quantity of paint is quite good and I believe this will last me awhile, even though I’ve been using it to paint 11x14 paintings, rather than solely as a travel kit.

Hopefully this will help someone out. This is the set I received. At first I thought it was defective, as I only appeared to have half of a brush pen. I reached out to Winsor & Newton, and they mentioned to check the pen - they said they turn the brush head inside the base to protect it during shipping. Sure enough - I took out the brush pen to have a look, the top screws inside the base. The whole brush pen is there! Hope this helps someone.

Love the travel box. Water brush not so much leaks water onto project.

The colors, though student grade, are very nice. I really like the container a lot. It has a water brush included that I may not use since I also purchased a travel brush that may fit in there instead. Once the paint is used it will be easy to rinse out the little containers and refill them.....the container closes very well, so I feel confident it wont fly open if jostled in my tote bag.

Paintings are my attempt at Terry Harrison lakeside flowers from the watercolor landscapes book. I did not have all the pigments the book suggested. Used cotman brush pen set paints & canson watercolor paper. Love the paint and the brush too. Came back to buy the 24 pan set today. I want more of the primary pigments as the brush set only includes one red one yellow and one blue. The yellow in the brush set is so soft its nearly pastel. 24 colors is more than I want but some of them look so fun & I can mix and match in this brush set for a travel set of my own choosing. The box is GREAT. Cotman are very lightfast and fun to use... no regrets. 24 pan set came in. Painted the flowers from strathmore learn to paint watercolor flowers featuring artist Kelly eddington. :) Uploaded a pic of the 40 color chart with the ones in the 24half pan set checked off to show what you get vs what you dont get if you buy the mid sized set. Happy happy.
