I cant believe I forgot to review this book! Most of the bad reviews are by people who didnt want a Christian overtone to the book. To them I say, dont take away from the book just because of that! Only read this one in the series, but I am sure the series would be interesting.

Really enjoyed this. It was entertaining as well as moving and very well written. The characters were interesting and easy to feel attached to. I liked the wide range of characters ages and how the different generations connected. This is one of my favorite christian fantasies. Very creative author.

Nice to read about adventure, danger, and battle without being drenched in gore by the author.

I dont like buying ebooks... Im stuck wanting physical copies I can lend and give away... but I was too interested in the world and characters of this book. Maggie was rescued from an orphanage, placed in a foster home... then basically orphaned again. The poor girl (how old is she, anyway?) has managed to overcome these hardships, and lives quite happily... until an old acquaintance delivers a mysterious old scroll before succumbing to a non-natural illness. Suddenly, Maggie learns of the murder of her foster family by someone called Evelyn, of the previous existence of a group investigating `worlds unseen whose members were key people in her life, and she has to know the secrets behind it all. She takes the scroll and embarks on a journey that will change her almost immediately, with Nicholas, a boy who can hear voices; Jerome, leader of a revolutionary group; Virginia, a blind seer; and evil shadowy creatures ready to invade the world unless it can be protected by the return of the King. The book gives snatches of old writings (or something) telling about the past, of the King who once ruled the world, of his Huntsman, and other creatures whose part Im still not really sure of. These were kind of cool, but also a little bit distracting. I liked how the locations were named. For example, Maggie comes from Londron. Easily we can see this is London, just as easily we can see this is not London. The romance was totally weird. Not in itself, just in how quickly it happened. She meets the guy, boom she knows shes in love, boom its over. Did I miss several chapters in the middle of the revolutionary stuff? Some other things happened a little abruptly too. For this reason, 4 stars. But I bought the sequel, and Im looking forward to what happens next. (Read on a Kindle.) (Note -- I didnt even know it was a Christian fantasy until I saw the other reviews here. Which means, well done.) Update: I was disappointed in the sequel and wont be bothering with the third one. I still think this book is worth the read, however.

Looking forward to reading more in this series. It is a clean fantasy about a world ruled by an evil family who get their power from the Darkness on the other side of the Veil. The Gifted are beginning to come forth ...

.I must say that I really enjoyed this book! It connected on a spiritual level but I was especially gladdened to see that there was an author willing and able to put it out there. The characters are beautiful and have so much history and depth. It is true that when we meet someone we may note characteristics but we would not know the factors which have shaped them. All people have their back story and even the evil characters offered a glimpse of how they became who they are in the story. The allegorical aspects, the gifts, etc - I thought it wonderful and thank the author for the encouragement I found. The spiritual world is no joke, it is real and our world today bears many marks of the encroachment (wrong word? cause it is already here) of the darkness. Anyway I enjoyed but found myself deeply involved. Thanks for this book Rachel. Keep writing.

I enjoyed this very much, and plan to purchase the Omnibus. I didnt know this was Christian fiction before reading, but realized it quickly. As a Grandmother of 11, several of whom are avid readers, I am going to share this with them. They will enjoy the fantasy aspect of the book, as well as the Christian allegories, and I know it is safe for them to read (which is very important to me).
