This is great to have in an emergency in case your primary batteries cannot be charged. It provides at least some power to the unit although broadcast power is reduced. Other than that it works as advertised and is of good construction. I recommend having one.

got this in case i killed off the other 2 batteries I have for this radio an have no way to charge them looks to be water tight also.quality is always very nice with the yeasu name

Good back up for standard battery

If you need a hand held transceiver that can run a long time on battery, the Yaesu FT5D aint it. Great radio, but it flattens rechargeable batteries quickly. Thats why I bought the battery case. If power isnt available to recharge the rechargeable battery, AA batteries are easy to find. Should be in your go kit if you intend to deploy during emergency situations.

Did not work well for my FT-1D. Didnt seem to have the amperage to operate the radio but for a short period of time. Batteries were a little hard to get in and out of pack.

Its nice and does what I need it to do. If my lithium batteries fail or Im in a remote place (camping, etc.) I can use 3 - AA batteries to power my radio. The battery life isnt great of course but its really about an alternative power source. My main issue is that its overpriced. I can get an aftermarket lithium replacement for less than the price of this case that has no batteries. Yes I knew this before I purchased it but I point it out for others looking at it and considering their options. I ONLY purchased this for the alternative power source option. If I had to do it again I think I would simply just buy another aftermarket battery only based upon price. If this was half the price I think the value would be there. Anyway food for thought.

Exactly what I needed to have a back up for my rechargeable batteries. Perfect fit and function. The radio wont transmit at full power on disposable batteries, but its good to have a way to power the radio if the rechargeable packs go dead and you need the radio while they recharge.
