> 3 dayA perfect backup for the rechargeable that comes with the radio. I keep lithium AAs in it so they last long and dont leak. I like to use my Yaesu VX-8DR as an FM radio for hours at a time, so I do tend to run down the rechargeable battery. I grab this one from my EDC bag, install it, and Im good to go until I get the other battery recharged. Be Prepared. - The Boy Scout Motto

> 3 dayIts nice and does what I need it to do. If my lithium batteries fail or Im in a remote place (camping, etc.) I can use 3 - AA batteries to power my radio. The battery life isnt great of course but its really about an alternative power source. My main issue is that its overpriced. I can get an aftermarket lithium replacement for less than the price of this case that has no batteries. Yes I knew this before I purchased it but I point it out for others looking at it and considering their options. I ONLY purchased this for the alternative power source option. If I had to do it again I think I would simply just buy another aftermarket battery only based upon price. If this was half the price I think the value would be there. Anyway food for thought.

> 3 dayHigh quality product for those times when you need immediate backup power - without either the time or energy to recharge. Plug in 3 AA batteries and you are set. Lithium works best for deep drain.

> 3 dayTypical Yaesu quality. As another reviewer mentioned, it does appear to be at least water resistant, so you dont lost that feature of the radio just because you ran out of Lithium battery packs. Itd be a sad state of affairs to be transmitting at a whopping 0.8 watts (as is the case of the FT1XD when running on this battery pack) but for monitoring, short range simplex, or strong repeater work, itd most definitely do the job when your 2200mAh packs run out. I almost didnt get one for this radio (the FT1XD wasnt cheap, nor were the plethora of other accessories I had already added to it) but being the only radio without a AA pack, it was nagging at me. Better to have and not need...

Greater than one weekThe power output, when using AA cells is a little less than 1 watt, which isnt much, but is good enough for short range work. More importantly, it allows you to power the radio for listening, monitoring, scanning, recording with just a pile of AA batteries. Ive been using my FT3D as a scanner lately, and this lets me save my lithium ion batteries for two-way use, while powering the radio for scanning and recording with just my pile of AA NiMH batteries.
