Zoo Med Wood Tortoise House

> 24 hourI like this as a starter house. Obviously not intended for a full grown for certain species. The end can be removed to link up another one, which could extend the life of it if your tort is growing too big for it. My girl likes it, it’s her temp as we build her tort table.

> 24 hourI needed a quick enclosure for a baby marginated tortoise. Since Ive been in the field of herpetology and have build enclosures for many places I got this kit in a pinch. It arrived in descent time.. But was hard to build. By that I mean the wood splinters and is very thin and cheap. I screwed in one panel only to have it split easy right down the middle. So I had to fix that because Im not carrying what is close to 60 pounds into a NYC post office to return. The wood smells nice but its dry and brittle. So the screws (power drill worked better) crack the wood as they go in. I put down two doggie wee wee training pads inside so it does not hurt the baby with splitters. If you drop this after its assembled it can break very very easy. Its similar to the boarding used in cheap ikea furniture. Like the fake boarding behind structures, but still made of nice scented cedar. Zoo med is actually a company Ive used for many years, so I was let down after getting this. Its only temporary so keep that in mind when looking for a forever home for your turtles/tortoises.

> 24 hourThis is such an awesome and easy to assemble product! My tortoise loves her house. She is much happier than she was when she was in a glass terrarium! The box is very small and lightweight compared to how big the house actually is. It assembled in like 10 minutes maybe. No weird smells like some people said. This was a great buy and anyone with a tortoise should look into investing in one of these. Its nice because its low and visible for our young children without the risk of salmonella since it locks on the side. If you have really bad babies than you can add tiny locks like a diary lock. My kids do drop things inside since the grates on top are very large but this also allows for much better ventilation for the tortoise. I will be changing out our lighting for the hood light which fits with this product much better.

> 24 hourI have 4 baby tortoises that use this. They have plenty of room for now. I have them indoors for now. But the house isnt too heavy to pick up and move outside, so they can get some sun.

> 24 hourIt comes disassembled, but very easy to put together. No drilling necessary, because the wood screws will cut a thread into the wood while you are screwing it in. The wire mesh is nice and thick, but the spacing is too wide, which can allow rats or mice to get into the tortoise house and chew on your pet. What I did was cut a square piece of hardware cloth with a spacing of 1/2 inch, placed it over the existing wire mesh and secured it with zip ties. This tortoise house is big enough for Egyptian tortoises, Russian tortoises, and of course hatchling tortoises of almost any species.

> 24 hourVery pleased with the tortoise house. My tortoise will have plenty of growing room. Recommend a partner to help hold pieces together when assembling. One wrong move and youll have a long screw accidentally go through wrong way. I didnt, thank goodness :-)

> 24 hourGreat buy! My tortoise Mickey loves his new home :) Its definitely high quality construction with some minor defects (some parts didnt align just right). Either way, we made it work and Im sure it will last a long time.
