Zoo Med Wood Tortoise House

Felt like the space was minimal for my tort with the divider so I left it out and have smaller hide he can sleep under if he wants. Since one hinge door is solid...this additionally blocks light for my tort sleeping under his log. I did paint the wood on the outside as well as stain the inside so it would look more appealling and prevent rot with the moisture, but the effort it took was minimal along with the actual assembly. Feels like it could be completely DIY for less cost but the ease of assemble with everything already cut, drilled, mostly put together was enough to make up for it. I saw the feature to connect two of these boxes together and hope to try that when I have more square feet of living space for myself.

Quality materials. Easy to install. Nice home for our new Russian Tortoise. She instinctively knows to go inside the dark room to sleep. We put a large wooden hide in that small side, but she never uses it, since she feels secure and safe in there. There is a really strong smell when you first open the package, like varnish. I guess it could just be a strong wood smell, but it was so strong, we did not put the tortoise inside immediately, for fear the fumes would harm it. Suggest putting it together and giving it enough time to air out before putting your beloved pet inside.

Very easy to put together. I placed a tarp for the bottom so the plantation soil and plants wouldnt make a mess on the floor. My tortoise is doing just fine! :-) perfect for indoors during cold nights.

Waste of money. Wood started splitting and only a month old.

The smell of this is very strong. Otherwise it is very nice.

lid does not lay flush had to create screw holes because the original ones didnt match the holes in the hinges.

Not much more to say. My daughters tortoise loves his new home and it doesnt get the nasty smell of a glass terrarium.

I had been looking to order the Tortoise House for a long time but could never make the plunge. Im glad I did! Was able to construct it alone with only a screwdriver. I wish I had a drill, but it was manageable without one. The directions are fairly clear and there are videos for the DIY construction on Youtube and Petcos website. My tortoise LOVES his new environment. Ive rested the heat lamp on top of the wire and it hasnt been a problem. The space is nice, I wish the hideaway space was a bit smaller so he has more room to roam and still has the option of using the sleeper box.

Great product. Nice home for your tortoise ? I have two of these homes for both my tortoises. They both love their homes. Less stress on them due to the fact that they can not see their reflections, as the pens are made from wood.
