IMO the right combination of size and weight, but you’ll have to be against the bike rack to lock the frame to the rack. Barely fits inside my bike trunk, but worth it. I would recommend the locking dock attachment if you have space to store it within the frame.

The choice was this or the Kryptonite. The ABUS won over Kryptonite with the strength test (search youtube) The Kryptonite did win with the insurance coverage offer...BUT The Kryptonite insurance coverage comes with a requirement that makes it just about useless. A) It requires you to send back the broken/damaged lock B) You have to take the same day pic of the bike locked Chances are if your bike gets stolen, the thief wont leave the busted lock. Then you have to remember to take a current pic every day you lock your bike. Based on that and the general reviews of the coverage, I decided to just go with the stronger ABUS lock. Side Note: As great as the mounting bracket is (sold separately)...it will only fit on a standard size bike frame. I have a 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper XL Mountain bike and I cannot use the mounting/holder bracket because it wont fit around the frame as the frame is pretty thick. So I just carry it in my water pack bag. I would have given it 5 stars if the bracket worked too seeing as I had to purchase that separately.

Great lock; my daughter has a girls bike and it didnt really have anywhere that we could mount the lock so she has to carry it in her backpack when shes riding. But it is very sturdy and we feel that it provides great protection for her bike (on a college campus). She uses this lock to secure the front wheel and frame to the post, but also uses a Kryptonite chain to lace through the rear tire (not as a secure, but faster than using 2 U-locks).

I picked this bike lock because it hits a lot of great selling points (more info below). I wanted something better to protect my bike while I go into shops or restaurants. I exclusively commute on my bike, so Im forced to leave my bike outside and in the open. This lock gives me the peace of mind that nobody will take my bike while Im away. The lock works very smoothly and I have never had a hangup with the key. The coating does an excellent job at protecting the paint on my bike (no scratches!). It is quite heavy, but its high quality stretched steel. The lock mount is oddly shaped and can be difficult to find a place to mount it onto. I keep the lock in my backpack or satchel instead. Pros: -Hardened, stretched steel -Double bolted square shaped locks -Smooth working lock -Protective rubber coating -Medium shackle length -Two keys, one comes with a light -Replacement keys are easy to get from ABUS Cons: -Its heavy -Mount is tricky to use Here are some specifics: It can resist ~13 tons of cutting force, ~7 tons of pulling force, and 1,300 Nm of twisting force. It uses a double-bolted square shackle. The square-in-square shape prevents twisting. That doubles the locking force as well as resistance against tools.

Quality lock, but it is pretty heavy. Im using this as my commuter lock, and putting it in my backpack adds quite a bit of weight. However, good security comes at a price.

Lock looks sturdy, I would have given a 5 star, but the key that has the light did not have the battery holder or battery. I would have to send the lock back, it wasn’t worth the time to send it back. I am happy with the lock.

I was very impressed when I got this. It feels incredibly solid. A word of caution to consumers, its heavier than you think it is. Also, do yourself a favor and buy the one with USH connector. I got mine mounted on with 3 Velcro strap in the frame of my bike.

This Abus Granit XPlus 540 lock was purchased for my using two U-locks together in high theft areas of town. The other U-lock is a 7 Kryptonite Evolution. This way, if a thief learns to pick one brand of U-lock by watching the youTube vids on lock picking hell be deterred by a lock from a different mfg. Since both locks are double-locking, 4 cuts must be made with bolt cutters on the two locks as opposed to 2 cuts on a single lock shackle (or just 1 cut if youre using a Kryptonite bent foot U-lock). Otherwise I use just the Abus in better areas of town. And using two locks will persuade a thief to move elsewhere instead of trying to pick open your lock with whatever metal implement he uses, damaging the locks internal mechanism. He may be unsuccessful at opening the lock but when you try to unlock it you may not be able to. The black & dark gray Abus looks great mounted in the bracket, better than a bright orange or yellow U-lock would look. Even the shackle is a 2-tone gray and black which enhances the appearance. And its the only lock with a 13mm shackle given a three star security rating by ART. Weight is 3.27 pounds - light for a 9, 13mm shackle lock. Made in Germany. The Abus comes with one of two different mounts for frames having round tubes: the EaZy KF bracket (for 28-36mm diameter tubes) or the oversized USH 540 bracket (for 15-35mm tubes). Mine came with the EaZy KF bracket which is simple to install and use. One thing not mentioned in the instructions is that by removing the plastic clamp from the shackle, rotating it 90 degrees, and re-installing it onto the shackle, the lock can be positioned in the EaZy KF bracket so its exactly in the middle of bikes frame [pic] where it wont bump a leg. The mounting bracket for my Kryptonite Evolution U-lock seems less sturdy and is somewhat difficult to install onto bike frame to the point where I never used it, instead carrying the Kryptonite in a backpack. If you want the EaZy KF mounting bracket as opposed to the USH 540 bracket, look closely in the upper left corner of the cardboard wrapper the lock comes in for a small picture of a hand inserting a U-lock into the bracket with the word click in the picture. This lock will come with the EaZy KF bracket. And dont tighten the bracket too much if your frame is alum or carbon. I give the Abus 4 stars not 5 because its expensive and the seam that runs circumferentially between the 2 gray plastic covers on the metal crossbar may tempt a thief to pry apart the plastic, thinking this might help break open the lock. It wont open the lock but with the plastic covering damaged or gone the exposed metal crossbar will be prone to rust and the lock will have a damaged appearance. By comparison, the plastic covering on a Kryptonite crossbar is a seamless skin that wont give anyone the idea to remove it. But locks should be seen as only deterrents to theft and not actual protection against it since a battery-operated angle grinder will cut through any lock shackle (although this will make a lot of noise). The best way to protect an expensive bike is to have a second $200-$300 bike for riding & locking around town and only ride the good bike when it will not be parked out of sight. Btw, in the online Cyclist review of bike locks an angle grinder cut open the Abus Granit XPlus 540s 13mm shackle in 2 minutes & 51 seconds - thats 17 seconds LONGER than it took the reviewers to cut open the thicker 16mm shackle of the Kryptonite New York (2 min & 34 seconds). This shows the hardness of the Granit 540 steel.

Needed a strong and reliable lock to secure my bike around campus. This works. Pros: Thick, hardened steel shackle. Lightweight for its size and strength. Thin layer of rubberized material on the inside of the shackle to protect the paint on your bike. Key retention, so that the key can only be removed when in the locked position; never accidentally leave your bike unlocked! One key has a handy little LED light built in. Also comes with a smaller spare. Included card with personalized code to order new keys. Cons: None, absolutely worth the money.
