This purchase was an impulse buy, actually. It was on sale, and I thought - why not? I have several uplights that are under and behind furniture and its a literal pain to hand plug-in and un-plug several times a day. Im really tired of crawling around trying to reach the plugs, and wow - with a simple command I can light up my living room, or with a tap on my Alexa app I can turn on or off specific lights depending on the time of day. I had no idea how much of a difference it would make not having to deal with all the plugging/unplugging. I cant believe I never thought to buy these before. Im getting older and its just not that easy (or fun) to climb on or under the furniture anymore. :-D Setup was very simple and I control mine via Alexa through my Bose 700 soundbar. I plan on purchasing a few more for the upstairs so I can turn on the lights on and off when i get up to go to work at 5:30 in the morning - no more tripping over stuff in the dark. Never had an issue and my only regret was not buying them sooner - could have saved a few scraped hands and bumped heads for sure! Very happy with this very simple purchase.

I had a few WeMo smart plugs before ordering these. First of all, I HATED the app because adding a plug was so cumbersome. Plus, one of the plugs never did show up on the app so I couldnt really control it. It was in a room upstairs and I thought it must have been out of range of my WiFi router. I do not have a WiFi extender and almost bought one due to this issue. Had to send those plugs back. I was excited to see Amazon was coming out with their own smart plugs and pre-ordered them right away. Controlling everything through one app is way preferable. As a huge bonus, my upstairs plug that I previously could not control with the WeMo plug and app now works flawlessly with the Amazon plug and Alexa app. I guess it wasnt out of range after all. Pros: 1. if youre already tied into the Amazon Alexa ecosystem this just makes sense, and you keep things under control with a single app. And easily controlled with your Echo device if you wish. 2. Really easy to add a plug via the Alexa app. Alexa will recognize it right away and you just scan the back of the plug to add it. 3. Shorter and less bulky than the WeMo plug. 4. Smart plugs that may have been non-responsive on my network before are working flawlessly now with the Amazon plug in use instead. Cons: 1. A bit pricey. I wish they offered multi-packs for a lower price per unit. This will probably happen later. 2. Adding a plug to operate on an on/off schedule was NOT as easy as with WeMo. It took too many steps, was not straightforward, and should be more streamlined. Basically, youre creating what they call a routine. You have to add a start time. Then go back and do it all over again to add an end time. So I had to create two routines to get my coffee maker to start on weekdays at 6:45am and turn off on weekdays at 7:45am. That was silly. I did eventually figure it out, but they should really work on making it involve less steps and be more intuitive. I will buy more but will wait until the price comes down or theyre on sale.

Suffered for years with various Wemo devices and after a Wemo rep finally told me that their old assets wouldnt work with the Apple Home app and that new assets wouldnt work with the Wemo app, we finally decided to recycle the 40 or so Wemo devices we had amassed and switched to all Amazon smart plugs. Setup per device and response time from app and via Alexa was 10x easier and faster than Wemo. Very happy with purchase!

The Amazon Smart Plug is a popular device that allows you to control your electronic devices using voice commands or through the Alexa app. Its a simple and convenient way to make your home smarter without needing to invest in a complete smart home system. Here are some key features and aspects of the Amazon Smart Plug: Easy setup: Setting up the Amazon Smart Plug is a straightforward process. You simply need to plug it into an electrical outlet, connect it to your Wi-Fi network using the Alexa app, and then you can start controlling your devices. Voice control: The main advantage of the Amazon Smart Plug is its compatibility with Amazon Alexa. Once the Smart Plug is set up, you can control it using voice commands through any Alexa-enabled device, such as an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. This allows you to turn your devices on or off without needing to physically interact with the plug. Scheduling and routines: With the Alexa app, you can set schedules for your devices connected to the Smart Plug. For example, you can schedule your lights to turn on and off at specific times, creating the illusion of someone being home when youre away. You can also create routines to control multiple devices simultaneously with a single voice command. Away mode: The Smart Plug includes an Away mode, which randomly turns your lights on and off during specific time periods. This feature can be a useful security measure to deter potential intruders when youre away from home. Energy monitoring: The newer versions of the Amazon Smart Plug come with built-in energy monitoring capabilities. This allows you to track the energy usage of the devices connected to the plug, giving you insights into your energy consumption and potentially helping you identify energy-saving opportunities. Compatibility: The Amazon Smart Plug works seamlessly with other Alexa-compatible devices and can be integrated into larger smart home setups. You can create routines or control multiple devices simultaneously, enhancing the overall convenience and functionality of your smart home. Overall, the Amazon Smart Plug is a reliable and user-friendly device that offers basic smart home functionality. Its an excellent choice if youre looking for a simple way to automate your devices and control them with voice commands. However, if youre seeking more advanced features or compatibility with other smart home ecosystems like Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit, you may need to consider alternative options.

I’m so glad I decided to get this for my new lamp. I put my lamp behind my couch so having the smart plug was the best idea. Now I just tell Alexa to turn it on/off. I would definitely buy again.

I was able to get this with an Amazon code for a very reasonable price and bought it just to try it out. It was easy to install and worked perfectly. It wound up being great. I have a TV that will not come on if left plugged in overnight (an old Panasonic Plasma, a known problem as they age). I was unplugging the TV every night and plugging it in the next day. I plugged the TV into the smart plug and now I just tell Alexa to turn it on or off. I rated it four stars because the price is so high. If the plugs were in the $10 range I would probably have them all over the house.

Had my bedroom lights plugged into this plug. My lights would go on and off in the middle of the night. It stopped when I unplugged it.
