AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core, 24-thread unlocked desktop processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler

Game,stream, do it all without having to worry about processing power. A true beast indeed.

I bought this CPU excited by the substantial performance gains offered by the new Zen 2 architecture on 7nm process. I am not a gamer and have not overclocked my PC. I use it for data science projects to process large volumes of data. Take a look at the image. CPU is being fed < 1.0 volt and is running at 545 Mhz, yet the temperature reading by AMDs own utility reads 104C! Actually, it hit 109C but I was not able to grab a screen shot fast enough. I plodded through the AMD warranty process and was given the run around. It is pretty clear that their warranty process is designed to weed out those but the most persistent. After running many tests/procedures and providing ample proof that, indeed, the CPU is defective, I was told by AMD (after 2+ weeks) to basically stuff it and ask Amazon to process the warranty. You can imagine what Amazons response was, since it only sells not manufactures them. If AMD wants to win over loyal customers, then its service needs to back up its purported product excellence.

I bought this CPU to put into a new MSI motherboard and WOW is it a step up from my old 6-core 3.5GHZ AMD CPU!

This is 2021 not 1963. CPUs cant get much faster so they get wider. You are not going to run into a ge whiz new CPU. AMD has cobbled together i very good and wide CPU. It does what it was designed to and does it very well.

I was wanting to upgrade to a 5900x, but in here in early 2021, they are hard to come by or are way over MSRP. If you CAN get a 5900x for $550, spend the extra money for it (and more $ for a cooler) and get a better processor. Whether you are better off with a 5800x or this 3900x will depend on what you are doing, but for me, the 3900x was a solid choice, comes WITH an okay cooler, and is ACTUALLY in stock. Im using this for DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Marvelous Designer and other programs, and all the happy cores are much appreciated. Oh, if you are using older versions of Blender, Blender 2.92 and newer does a much better job at multi-threading than it used to. If you are RENDERING in Blender, rather than doing simulations, then a good GPU is much better for that work load. But, yeah, getting a good GPU in early 2021 is and even bigger pain. All in all, this is a solid low end workstation CPU without having to go crazy on Epyc or Threadripper, and is a good bang for the buck.

So glad I got my hands on this monster. Plus, it came with the Wraith RGB cooler. Sure, the 5000 cpus are released, but you cant find one, and the Ryzen 9 3900x out performs multi-core on all of the 5000s except the Ryzen 9 5000s and those are big $$$, +$100 the cost of the 3900x, and no cooler included. The 5000s all have better single core speeds, but more and more games are being developed to utilize the multi-core functional capabilities of processors. Im going to pair this up with a Radeon 6800XT GPU when theyre out, and Ill be gaming 100% 4K! Looking forward to all of the processor capabilities being unleashed on my music notation software, and digital processing for my Digital Audio Workstation as well!!
