> 3 dayEasy to clean just squeeze them out in some water. Pretty quiet noise level, whatever air pump you use will effect that more. The inside is able to be shortened, which I did for one of my smaller tanks. There are two sections inside, I took on off, cut the sponge shorter, and put the top piece (that holds the sponge on) back on. I’m very pleased with this purchase.

AQUAPAPA Sponge filter for tank 30 - 60 gallon
How it functions:
Sponge filter is an efficient and excellent method of filtration for your fish tank. This sponge filter works with an external air pump or an integral water pump.
The air pump pushes air into the hollow cavity inside the sponge filter thru the tubing, and bubbles rise from the toplift tube thus drawing water thru the sponge walls. It provides mechanical and bio filtration for your tank.
Easy maintenance:
Scoop some old tank water out of your tank into a bucket; wash the sponge in the water and squeeze out the buildup until it"s clean. Sponge needs to be cleaned every month. It"s recommended to change out 25-30% of the water weekly.
